Hey team. So – huge thanks for the tips and suggestions. I have resolved this – but kinda.
I couldn’t find a self storage facility I was able to access here in Chengdu. But I was able to find storage with friends and colleagues for free or tiny contribution.
However I did find a workshop. In Chengdu there is a great network of makerspaces. Community run workshops. I found FabLabChengdu. It’s free to join and members can use shared tools, workshops and studios.
You can find them on WeChat just by searching FabLabChengdu.
Love it!
KaneParticipantHey Charlie. Sorry for delayed response. I had a big schedule change and had to drop everything.
I found my coder. The project is an interactive theatre set. Kinda complex. The answer was similar to other situations I’ve had while travelling and making. Go out. Meet people. Share a drink. Get connected to the community. Find what you need.
Apprecited you getting back to me though. I will for sure keep asking here. It’s a fantastic resource.
KaneParticipantThis is a very intersting idea. Thanks so much. With the shop version I could potentially set up temporary workshop I guess.
Is there a website to find such places? Or is it more of a wander around the construction sites looking for “for lease” signs?
As an aside – I found a local cycle building company called Natooke. They have a full workshop and do excellent work. If you’re doing cycle related things – this is a good solution.
I’d still take any light engineering recommendations.

KaneParticipantHi there. Im interested in renting some storage space, but the link doesnt seem to work. Any advice?
KaneParticipantThanks for the tips! Especially the app. Trying this week as I gained a few extra days here.
KaneParticipantAh – looks like the answer was in the forum. Must be in the city I have my VISA registered, so Chengdu it is. I’m not sure my VISA will pass muster, but I’ll give it a shot I guess. I’ll try and pull all the things together before I head to Shanghai. Running…
KaneParticipantHi folks. New to the forum. I’m looking at getting my license as I’m in China a lot and being able to drive would be a game changer for a lot of my activities. I’m two weeks into a 90 day VISA. I will head to Shanghai next week for a couple of weeks and then return to Chengdu. I’m wondering if I should try to quickly get a test tomorrow, try in Shanghai, or wait until I get back to Chengdu?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks!
