I listened to the Pimp A Butterfly album earlier tonight while doing my ironing from start to finish, and I’m sorry guys, I have to say this is a whole lot of hype. I was intrigued to know what KL had to say since his new album is at the number one spot in the UK. In my opinion the lyrics are ordinary at best. The style/theme, call it what you want, it seems like a literal cut-and-paste job of Eminem, Snoop, Dre and with 2pac phrases dropped in every now and then. I wouldn’t call this inspiration, it’s laziness.

Everyone’s gotta eat I guess, and good luck to the man. If Pimp A Butterfly doesn’t leave a long lasting impact on music history, at least it will go down as a great album for getting your housework done ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes, I actually meant culture shock. Like John said, in western culture we can openly talk and joke about such issues while in the East it’s a no-no. We also heavily rely on sarcasm, especially in the UK. It’s the only thing we are good at now ๐Ÿ˜€

    Well said, Mr.Klink.

*Wags index finger at Vincent, staring judgingly* :p

I’m just kidding Vince. There has clearly been a case of culture clash.

Sometimes the world doesn’t smile back, it frowns or spits back at you :p I’m a “Treat others like you want to be treated.” Sometimes my kindess is mistaken for naivety, but take advantage of it and you won’t get far ๐Ÿ˜€

    @ Miro630 –
Sorry I got the numbers in your name wrong last time Miro :p
You hit the nail on the head with everything that you have said.
English is the official language of business, communication, IT, sport, science and medicine and that’s why people are lining up to learn it, so they could expand their success.

    @ Charlie –
    Well put, sir.

The NWA movie is an actual feature?

Yeah, itโ€™s a $25 million feature film. Looks like it could be a really good film from the trailer. I love these type of movies though, recently Iโ€™ve been watching a lot of movies in this style from the same era (early 1990โ€™s): New Jack City, Deep Cover, Menace II Society, Boyz N the Hood, etc.

    Holy chit! 25 mil? Cool.

Haven’t seen Menace II Society yet. I tried to download it the other day, but failed. Could also be worth watching CB4 while you’re in the zone.

The NWA movie is an actual feature? I thought it’s a documentary. I was only made aware of its existence after the latest news about Suge Knight when he got into some sort of trouble, can’t remember what it was. They mentioned in the report that he had been at the set of Straight Outta Compton.

I checked out info about it on IMDb. Should be interesting to see how the actors do, especially Cube’s son! Will watch it for nostalgic purposes. We still await the Tupac biopic ๐Ÿ˜€ That one could fail on launch and might never be made.

    @ Ray –
Thank you. I’m glad you found it interesting. So, perhaps it’s just your fault being anti-social :p

    @ Charlie –
Would it be fair to describe China as a constantly unpredictable place, where anything, good or bad, can happen anywhere and at anytime? I certainly found that to be the case so far ๐Ÿ˜€

    @ miro360 –
Thanks to you too. I’m glad you like what I had to say. To answer your first question, I actually said that Chinese people are as materialistic as the rest of the World, not more and not less than. We are all hypnotized by the latest gadget piece of technology and the latest fashions and so on. That’s what I meant. My point about the Japanese and Koreans (historical disagreements aside), generally they are more well-travelled than the Chinese. That’s to say, some have studied abroad, worked and lived there and this has been going on for a long time etc. So, they have a head start, but China is climbing fast. Of course the wars fought that brought about the cultural and economic “influence” of the United States has a lot to do with it as well as the length of time that has been going on.

That is quite an informative and sobering article. Thank you for pointing us in its direction, Charlie.

Unfortunately, this practice of shortcutting and paper-work dodging is too common and worldwide. I tend to scream fire then run fast if necessary at the sight of any red flag regarding my employer’s conduct. So far, all is well in Chengdu with my agent.

Ask many questions, check and verify before signing anything.
Look out for incosistencies and hesitations of a potential employer during interviews and negotiations.

It’s a mad cold world out there. Take care ~

For anyone considering this: Iโ€™ve met Serena and she speaks good English and is a cool person :)

It second that Charlie. I’ve met Serena too, and she is in fact my best friend! I disagree with one thing though. Her English is not good, it’s EXCELLENT!

I hope you find someone soon to help you better your Francais.

Yup, that is the best option. However, most places should carry 44. That is often the largest size a shop will carry.

I thought I saw my sizes in Carrefour, will recheck there again.

I have finally arrived in Chengdu and passed through quarantine smoothly following a question about what my country is.. I told the man “UK”, but I was genuinely confused by the question ๐Ÿ˜€ Too bad they didn’t ask for ticket to see which country I had flown in from. Not that it is affected.

I’m going to be flying in from Africa in a couple of days. I haven’t been told of such a thing yet, but I guess I will find out what happens when I arrive. Will let you the thread know what happened when I get there.

This is really awful to hear. I’m due to arrive in Chengdu in 3 days.

I will take all of the above advice, especially this one from Chris:

Maps works OK, sometimes. The maps and the GPS usually work, but putting in search terms will often just hang (I have Baidu Maps as a backup). Google Hangouts and Google Play Store donโ€™t work without a VPN, currently.

That’s good to know. Thanks Chris.
