    Hi Christian,

I am a graduate student of SWUFE and I live in campus.

The International students live in one of  the postgraduates’  dormitries where I stay as well.

I suggest you to live in dormitry although it is small and lack of facilities, but it’s much more easier to get along well with other  International students or native students who can help you learn mandarin.

If you insist on living off campus, there are loads of  apartments out of school gate. The renting price are always very cheap that you can have widely choices with your budget.

BTW, I will retrun to school early in this Sep.If you need any help, feel free to contact me.

    For your reference:

    e.g.

Intel offer a start 5000-6000 salary to the Chinese graduates in Chengdu. They can have their common expenses covered with some other appropriate entertainments spending.

And the average income these years for Chengdu residants(Chinese)is around the standard. So your pay is very high in Chengdu comparing with Chinese.

If you want to be work&life balanced,Chengdu maybe your first choice in China in my opinion.

It’s hard to say because some other things into consideration.

1.You can have a comfortable life with 18605 rmb salary in Chengdu(as I calculated above)while I don’t know the living standard in your country. It is important that income should be matched with expenses.

2.Is salary the only reason which decides you stay or come to China? If you have no interest in China(Chengdu) at all, you’d better think twice even you’ll be high paid here.

3.The normal working schedule is 9a.m.-5or6p.m. in China as well, but it still depands on your  type of job,if you’re of a performance-based work and can’t accomplish your tasks in the daytime, working overtime may not be escaped.

I guess it’s not just in China,in many countries are the same.

    4. I ‘m not so sure about your last query.(If I understand correct)You can search for a new job and go to the job interviews even when you’re in your current position,it doesn’t matter, but you should finish your work  handover before you taking up the new one.

The formula my company uses for tax calculation is this: Gross – 4800 = X X x 20% = Y Y- 555 = Total tax paid No idea if this is standard or not but it is what I get charged, my pay is not too different to yours.

your calculation is correct, but in different before-tax-salary level with Micky,so regarding to the attachment I post, two different percentage and deduction amount should be used for calculation.

I have heard that the salary for expats has been deducted the social securities before tax( Although I’m not so sure about that, the result may be approximate),so the calculation below doesn’t take them into consideration.

(Living allowance should be counted into monthly salary for tax calculation unless you are working for the government)

Your salary after tax deduction is as followed:

1.the tax monthly for the former 11 months:

    (16400*1.25-4800)*25%-1005=2920

2.the tax for the last month(the 13th month salary be counted into Dec.):

    (16400+16400*1.25-4800)*25%-1005=7020

3.your annual salary after tax deduction:

    (16400*13+16400*0.25*12)-(2920*11+7020)=223260

so your monthly average salary after tax  is 223260/12=18605 rmb

If you need convenience, you can surf http://www.baidu.com(百度)for(个人所得税计算器),if you want to know more, check out the attachment.

    Recommend as above.

The ruoergai(若尔盖)&the first bay of Yellow River(九曲黄河第一湾)in <span style=”background-color: #fbfbfb; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 22px; text-align: justify;”>western Sichuan</span> may be your wise options in Jun.-Sep. It takes three or four days for a unhurried trip from Chengdu and back by car.

Some photos from Internet are attached.

    Answer your questions left:

1.In the highland of west Sichuan these days, the temperature in a day ranges from  9<span style=”background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; font-family: arial; font-size: small; line-height: 18px;”>℃ to 20</span><span style=”background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; font-family: arial; font-size: small; line-height: 18px;”>℃ or so,not chilly, but still cold in the night. You’d better take warm clothes with you and use sunscreen in the daytime against the strong UV of highland.</span>

2.The weather forecast said it will be still rainy for the next days, which upsets me as well.If you want to drive to the places, you’d better follow the  weather forecast and avoid rainy days preventing the landslide.

    Generally,the 213 country-road condition is well.

“To travel in eastern Sichuan, weather is important while luck is more”.Cause the weather in the highland is really changeable,I can’t promise you 100% the good weather, but the amazing landscape is  still worth a gamble, just believing you are a lucky dog!

I will head to there several daysfter as well.Hope you enjoy your trip~

You can get kickass digs for 1/2 your budget. PM me. LOLZ

This. Maxxelli tends to offer very highly priced apartments which are best suited for people with subsidized housing allowances. In my opinion it’s nuts to spend over 5,000 kuai on rent in Chengdu unless you have a house. I don’t know anyone in Chengdu with a house that’s within 3rd ring road. To give you an idea of what’s available: my apartment is in the center of Yulin, one of Chengdu’s most expensive districts in terms of housing. 10 minute walk from the Nijiaqiao subway station, which is near the US Consulate. My apartment is 130 sq/m with 3 bedrooms, and has a gigantic private rooftop garden. My rent is 2,200 rmb per month. You’re really best off finding an apartment in Chengdu through a Chinese realtor, not an expat focused website that knows it can charge much more than what the industry rate is because their customers either don’t know what actual market value is, or they don’t care because their employer is footing the bill. That’s not to say that the apartments you mentioned aren’t pretty nice, but in terms of value, you have better options.

Charlie, your apartment rent  is really COST-EFFICIENT due to the big area and convenient transportation.

My parents rent out an apartment (near Tianfu overpass,12 minutes walk to South Realway Station subway station ) of 65 sq/m with a bedroom to a single Chinese girl last month,at 1700 rmb rent per mouth, and the nearby apartments rent are almost the same.

Just keep your apartment renting,Yulin colorful life is much more than the charge^^.
