    Hi Alice,

I had to change my plans and decided to travel to Europe for the next few weeks. Hope to make it to Kangding when I’m back to China.

    Wish you a lovely trip!

    Hello Alice and Iona,

Just made some research regarding the plane tickets and for instance, for next week tickets are cheaper than for the end of August. Not a huge difference, about 20$ or 30$.

As long as the trip is to be made during the week, it’s not so bad. May be worst during an weekend though.

At the moment I am flexible so if you have a certain schedule, I could probably adjust. But not sure how will be the end of August as the school starts earlier this year.

Let me know about your ideas regarding this.

    All the best!

Not sure yet about my plans for the end of August. From the financial point of view there are definitely some advantages. I will get back to you when I know more. I would love to go because it’s a great opportunity to have a travel mate and I don’t really like to travel by myself.

    Best!

    Hello guys,

I would like to visit Chengdu one day (preferably Friday or Saturday) but I don’t like to go alone. I am new in China and don’t speak Chinese yet, so this would be another reason why I would prefer to go with somebody who can get easy to the needed destinations. So, just in case you have too much time and would be willing to visit some places, let me know.

    P.S. – I live in Mianyang

Thank you all for your advices! I really appreciate.

Now, I have to see how to deal with this situation… I am here for two months and I am not ready to leave China yet, especially thinking that because of my bad experience, I didn’t have time to enjoy the beautiful things this country can offer.

Now, I started looking for a new job and I have to find an employer willing to deal with the switch over procedure. And I know that I would need some letter of recommendation + Foreign expert certificate and to be honest, not sure if I could get it from them. :)

Also, I am wondering – if I just leave and go back to Canada, can I reapply from there for a new working visa with a different employer, without needing any kind of letter from current company? Just in case they don’t want to cooperate.

Just trying to look at all the possibilities.

    Thank you again.

    Hello all,

I’ve seen somebody advertising here on ‘Multilingual teaching position”. Trying to find it but can not. Maybe it was removed, but just in case, if you see it, let me know

    Thank you! 🙂

    Dear all,

Could you tell me how do I brake a contract with a company? 🙂

I am considering giving them a three months notice, so they can get enough time to find another teacher for September. Also, according to the contract, if I give a notice three months in advance, I don’t have to pay up to 5000 RMB penalty. From my part, I do my best to honor the contract it seams that they don’t really care about it.

In the contract it says that I should give them a written notice. Any idea what would be the most appropriate way to do it? I definitely can not write the letter in Chinese. )))

    Here few examples:

1 – according to the contract, I should be provided free Chinese lessons  – No Chinese lesson in till now (I am working already two months).

2 – according to the contract, I should receive the salary on the 10th of the month – 10th of April it’s past, 10th of May it’s pas – No salary so far.

If I read one more time the contract, I am sure I will find other examples. :)))

Thank you very much for your time!

    Just as an idea :

French Crêpes – I think it would work with both sweet and savory fillings.

On the 1st of May I threw out a mini-party and for dessert I did something special with French crêpes and must tell you that all my ten Chinese guest were absolutely amazed by the crêpes and loved my dessert. )))

    Thank you Maz,

This is exactly what I was thinking. They just have to let me do my way and ignore those weekly plans that are irrelevant with the schedule provided. But for the older kids (4-6 yo) I think I could get some good results, if I would see them more often, but as long as it’s not the case, I can do just as little as they let me 🙂

Nevertheless culture and/or language barrier is not the reason for breaking the contract or other agreement if such was made.

Absolutely agree about this. And also about the fact that it seams that there are more serious issues there. I believe it’s just difficult to deal with these kind of issues in a country where you don’t yet speak the language and with such a different culture. But I hope everything will be fine and wish you Lexi a good time in China.

Thank you all for your replies.

The problem is really the fact that the company gives teachers training and weekly plan that is irrelevant with the situation. So, as many of you pointed out, all I can do, is just teach what I can in those 15-30 minutes per week and play some games, etc… Only if the 27 leader teacher (because this is how many classes I have in those 5 kindergartens) won’t come with suggestions and pointing sometimes at the weekly plan that has nothing to do with the reality :)))

All the best and thank you again!

Regarding Miro’s statement about airport pick up – I think it’s a must for the company to arrange the pickup once they committed to this. If the one is traveling, or comes independently to find work in China, I agree that she/he has to take care about where to arrive and where to stay. But as far as I am concerned, in any offer I got from many employers, they all commit to take care about airport pick up, and arranging the place where to stay – and usually, it should be a hotel for at least the time before you get to find the apartment.

“I find nothing wrong that nobody picked you up at the airport. It’s of course much more pleasant to have somebody to guide you especially if this is your first time coming to China but generally I would assume that a person applying for a job in China shall be able to arrange such things on his/her own.

Anyway you committed yourself to life and work in China so I do not find so unjustified for your employer to assume you shall be able (and mainly willing) to handle the most normal life requirements independently.”

Thank you Miro for your opinion.

You are right, probably I don’t feel yet comfortable to know that teaching is not the right word in this case 🙂

Now I am just concerned with the fact that they give you a weekly plan (designed for 5 days per week) but you get only 15 to 30 minutes per week. And the Chinese teacher have the teaching plan provided by the company, but it’s difficult to make them understand that in fact, in the situation created at the moment, I get to teach only 20% from what’s in it, and they have to do the 80% (which is of course impossible and ridiculous) 🙂
    Thanks again!

    Thank you Deven,

You are right about “advertising” – and I don’t really mind it. I am very positive and trying to do my best, but the problem is that all the teachers from those 5 kindergarten have received some kind of training from the company and they have all the weekly plans and they just don’t get that those weekly plans are for a normal situation – meaning that the foreign teacher will have 5 days per week with each class. And in the kindergarten, every class has a leader teacher and few other teachers. So, every teacher comes with some suggestions, and I have to deal with the suggestions of at least 27 teachers per week.

But on a daily basis, I am enjoying classes and from my perspective I am doing just fine and I have a lot of fun with these kids, but here come some of their teachers holding the stupid weekly plan that is irrelevant to the situation. :)))

So, I am mostly interested to know if other kindergarten teachers had to go through a similar situation regarding the schedule. Because I really think this is doesn’t sound right in any way.

And I am not at all stressed out to be fired. At least not yet :)))))

Thanks a lot for your reply.
