    With all the police around at every corner of Chengdu these days one has to be really stupid driving without a proper chinese license imo. Smaller towns somewhere in the country might be a different story since they seldom bother doing traffic stops – still you have to know the risks – high fines if they do catch you + what Ben said.
    @Brian: The companies might not know or care about the rules regarding foreigners driving in China.
    Anyone else with a license whos rented cars before?

    Hey!

    I’m kind of new here too – been living elsewhere in China for some time now, though.

    In my experience you will have a hard time finding an apartment with the regular agencies if you’re only staying for 2 or 3 months. Most landlords don’t like that, too much hazzle for them.

    But there’s something they call “hotel apartment” (not sure what the exact chinese is), apartments that you can rent by the day, month… Have seen one on ChuanXi Lu, but don’t know about the name/prices
