Yesterday when i got home my carbon monoxide detector was going off like crazy and the kitchen stank of gas because of my kitchens gas leak, I contacted my landlord but she says that’s none of her business, if I want to fix it it’s for me to arrange help and pay for it myself.

Could this be true? I think in any other country the landlord would be legally forced to handle a hazard as big as gas leak.

oh but one more thing, the detector in the kitchen doesn’t actually say if it is a CMD or a smoke alarm, even the chinese text just says that “red is bad, green is good”.

I was considering urgently getting one of those detectors when I read about this news on shangaiist, but I don’t quite get it.

on all apartments I’ve seen the boiler is outside on the balcony, so even if leaking it shouldn’t make it into the apartment? so if mine is on the balcony do I need one of those detectors?

I don’t doubt the construction faults for a second, as even my own gas stove is blatantly leaking gas when you turn it off, the smell is terrible. However I turn it off on the pipe itself. and I keep windows in kitchen open at all times and kitchen door closed at all times.

so I don’t want to be cheap with my safety, but I also don’t understand how gas could possibly make it into the bedroom.

You’d have to be insane to buy Sennheiser headphones in China. so many better chinese brands availible. even in the west many headphone entustists are starting to pay huge import costs to buy chinese headphones as being better value, but for us actually living in china we can get them dirt cheap free of delivery cost, whereas Senn we actually pay more than the west due to import tax.

Senn are damn good but even them have to make huge cuts to make their headphones make a 300 dollar budget. whereas a chinese headphones for 300 dollars has such an upper hand.

Yeah it really is a shame, when I was in thailand I was so amazed at the breakfast buffes and how cheap they were that I was considering spoiling myself with a daily buffee in China, then I noticed China is so much more expensive for that :(

I agree that one is super value but we get the feeling they don’t want us there whenever we go for that one, kind of makes sense because the other things on that menu is super expensive, but then they shouldn’t offer it if they don’t want people to buy it. but once they recognize we are there for the super cheap dimsum buffee it seems the staff wants to ignore us and not give us a table. One time they told us they were full yet it seemed they have plenty of tables.

Western movies in Chinese theaters are usually subbed and not dubbed.

    oops there goes that idea.

I might still get some sort of cinema card for fun if I can find a cinema I like.

I looked into Hygeia farm but it seems to be prohibitively complicated to make an order, I’ve asked 2 chinese people and even them cannot figure it out.

For example does the following fish only cost 6 RMB? if so then it’s written in a way that even Chinese people don’t understand

There are many ‘organic’ farms in Chengdu, the most famous being Sunyuki http://www.sunyuki.com/. South of Chengdu there is Hygeia farm http://www.hygeiafarm.com/. Both do home delivery of produce, and you can also visit the farm and buy their produce on site. At two of Sunyuki’s sites, you can also have lunch and participate in activities (booking required). There are several others but I don’t know their names. If you want to farm your own plot you might be able to arrange that with Hygeia, I think I’ve heard about that.

Kim are you sure any of the above is true? I would be very interested since those 2 options has fruits unlike yidiantian.com, but I think you are confusing the places.

Based on what I can see hygeia and sunyiki are not farms, but simply distributors whereas the products are from who-knows-where, meaning not local and you can’t inspect the farm (since they are spread out over china).

if Ive understood right the only local farms are yidiantian.com and anlonga farm, I think you were discribing anlonga farm as the place you can visit restaurant.

Imax website lists many theathers in Chengdu as Imax, even the wanda ones that Ian says is definitely not Imax.

So I don’t think they are completely fake, but I suspect these Chinese partners (uacinemas, cinecube etc) are simply purchasing imax name and films but taking huge shortcuts on other things. Imax themselves may have very limited say on what the imax partners do.

Which is a shame, the hobbit trailer looks waaaaay better on my laptop screen than the movie did on imax at eastern music park

Hopefully we can have updated information on this, as I really want to know also.

First of all usually “real imax” means “analog 70mm” instead of “digital imax” (as digital imax is still quite limiting in resolution), but I think in this case we are talking about “digital Imax that’s not a chinese fake”

I tried Eastern Music Park Imax for the Hobbit. There was no info whether it would show in HFR or regular 3d. but it was very clear that it was regular 3d as the frame-rate was terrible, every action movement was a blur.

But regular 3d or not, I’m curious if it’s even imax at all, as imax is supposed to have very high sound quality. I would be very suspicious that it’s not in any way imax as sound quality didn’t sound good (but could of course just be all in my head since I don’t have a side by side comparison).

I would be very curious if the imax at Global Center is better.

They list the international destinations on the airport wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chengdu_Shuangliu_International_Airport Here’s a map also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ZUUU_international_destination_en.png But, some of the ‘international destinations’ are not direct, for example, Chengdu<>Vancouver actually stops off in Shenyang or something where you do immigration – however, you do fly on the same plane after doing immigration. Many of the destinations listed, though, are direct.. and some are only direct on certain days. It’s a start at least!

Wow exactly what I needed, thanks!
