WilliamParticipant
Shortly after I started this thread last November to assist my girlfriend who lives in Chengdu (I live in NZ), Chengdu pollution readings went through the roof (that’s not to imply they’re low now … it’s all relative) and if I recall readings went through the roof in other parts of China as well. Subsequently all units were sold out and none were available for some time.
Can anyone please update me on the current situation regarding unit (and filter) availability, and indulge my ignorance to provide me updated information on where & how someone can now obtain a unit. It would be very much appreciated.
WilliamParticipantChecked out Starbucks in Global Centre last night … only magazines in the rack …..
WilliamParticipantMuchas Gracias Squirrel
WilliamParticipantMy sincere thanks OT … last night finished off my 2nd large bottle of Chinese herbal syrup…..
WilliamParticipantThx Pikachu … wish I’d known that the first day I stopped whilst running around searching for a pharmacy Lol
WilliamParticipantGracias … to this point I’ve been following my international mantra: When in X, experience where and what the X-ians do
WilliamParticipantFirst access to web since earlier message.
I’m constantly sipping some Chinese herbal syrup for severe Bronchitis to attempt to cope … with some, albeit limited success.
Mate, I suspect you well know there is no “Goggle” in China (at least none I have been able to access)
Also, I don’t give a damn about the cost Charlie … that’s why one purchases travel insurance!
WilliamParticipantWhat a great orientation video for someone like me who will soon visit Chengdu. Is there a web link for this so that I may Skype it to my gf in Chengdu?
WilliamParticipantMy sincere thanks Julius for the comprehensive answers.
- I’ve used my NZ iPhone4 in both US & Australia so it must be unlocked, and I know it’s a 3G phone.
- Assuming my not using a VPN, is there any email platform acceptable to both US & China (for example is Yahoo or mail.com acceptable?)
- My gf already has reservations so we’re all covered there
- It’s the travel & traffic that concerns her more than me, though admittedly I’m not a fan of LA or SF type traffic! My attitude is “It’s all part of the adventure” … only concern is, what do you do if you “need to go” and there’s no service facilities along the road? Lol
- Simple … I’ll let her drive 😉
- CC & $$$/RMB advice noted 😉
WilliamParticipantMuch appreciated Muell.
I investigated WoodWERD’s: chinaflower214.com
which I believe will meet my needs.
Thx again WW … and you too C 😉
WilliamParticipantThanks for the “heads-up” guys … I get your drift …..
WilliamParticipantPerhaps it was naive of me Charlie ..… on the other hand, as there is everything from Pizza, Donuts, and Mexican food available, not to mention numerous food outlets that sell all sorts of Western products in Chengdu, I didn’t think it would be “ridiculous” to find a florist shop, in a major China city of over 8 million people, that has someone who is able to speak English … and has a telephone.
Just last week I Skype-called a florist in Vancouver to deliver a bouquet to my Chinese girlfriend’s daughter, and paid with my NZ Mastercard. I also have no problem Skype-calling my Chinese girlfriend in Chengdu every day. My Chinese girlfriend had no difficulty using her Chengdu Bank issued Mastercard here in NZ. I also had no problem buying flowers for my girlfriend a year ago in Shanghai and paying for them with my NZ Mastercard.
Are you suggesting there is no florist in Chengdu where someone can speak English, will not accept a Skype-call, and an overseas credit card won’t be accepted or can be used in Chengdu?
WilliamParticipantCharlie,
Whilst I appreciate your suggestion, I’m not interested in “Goggling” … I could have easily done so prior to my post. I’m instead interested in personal references based on personal experience in Chengdu.
“Googling” could potentially offer “Chengdu Florist Bandits”!
WilliamParticipantHell … pizza & donuts next door to each other? I can’t find a Nirvana like that here in Auckland! 😉
Thanks Peg, that’s reassuring. Was thinking of bringing a few of the “cheapie” masks I still have lying around when I sand & anti-foul below the water-line of the boat. Perhaps to use when walking along traffic clogged streets with cars belching fumes.
