I think making a suit in thailand is amazing..quality of work is good enough for me but of course is not like the custom made ones from hugo boss or armani. They come to ur hotel room in the morning and do the measurements and u pick the materials u want. By dinner all your suit, shirts and pants are ready at ur door step. Cost around rmb1000 for full suit, shirt and pant. How amazing can that be? I believe suit replubic cant beat that.. Apparently in thailand all tailoring shops have a centralized factory that have more than a thousand staffs and they all send it to the same factory and will get it ready the same day. Totally awesome

Thanks rainbow for the offer. Actually I prefer to stay alone. I got a bit of an OCD (obcessive compulsive disorder) and need things arranged to my liking and hate it when my stuff is being tempered with or when my food goes missing unless its taken by my immediate family members (I do give exception in some cases if the person is a hot chick). So basically its difficult for me to live with others and vice versa 🙂 Rather make friends than enemy especially in a totally new place.

    Hey guys,

Will take your advices.. Actually I just love driving for no particular reason but partly also for the convenience when go for major grocery shopping. I just love to buy stuffs when I can still afford to.

Ya Brian its a great idea to share ur driving experience here from the process of buying/owning/selling one to cost of maintaining it eg. mechanics reliability/cost etc.. that will help many people to overcome the fear or be more fearful of owning a car in China.

    thanks again 🙂

Gosh Rick, seems you definitely have loads of memorable experiences in Chengdu. Really hope my stay there won’t be as eventful as yours. Can’t imagine losing income for so long for just for breaking a thieve’s nose. Reminds me of a story in NZ few years back where the victim was charged for shooting the thieve on his butt.. Thanks for the advice Rick. Thanks for getting me out of possible trouble.

Suprisingly while I was in southern India for 6 years, I could leave my house door wide open and have not got a single penny (paise) taken. I thought China might be as safe (naive of me). In India females tend to be victim of random molesting especially in crowded train or busses where many hands comes from all over where u cant really pin point who is the perpetrator. I witness mens there grabs tourist breast like no tomorrow of which I attacked one of them for doing that. But laws there are strict on culprits rather than vice versa. U can actually get a medal of honor for breaking noses and limbs of these predators.

OMG RMB 220000 for a pre owned c -class is quite expensive. Now I really have to think through properly before deciding on a car. Will try to make do without one in the begining.

Lol I hope traffic in chengdu is no where near that like the video. I won’t be able to go through that without running over anyone..lol

Thanks guys. I think I know exactly now what to expect in chengdu from this forum. Thanks again.

Hi Charlie, Yeah will try driving around before deciding. Hope I don’t kill too many people on the busy roads while im at it. By the way just out of curiosity, how much would a brand new Mercedes C class cost? Not that I am buying but just for price comparison only. Do they have rebadge german cars that is cheaper?

    Thank again.

Can I apply for a gun license in case one of these bastard enters my house and steals my underwear or something.. Hope you’ll get all your work stuff and passport sorted out. Good luck Rick

    Hi Rick,

Thanks for the great insight into cars. I had a look at the website but of course can’t understand much. The figure for the price eg. 15 or 30 I assume is 150,000.00 and 300,000.00 respectively right? If so then wow cars in Chengdu is really expensive even for used cars. At least I got a rough idea now of what I will be getting into. Thanks again Rick.

    Appreaciate it.

    Wow thanks so much scratchy,

U have provided great info. Really appreciate it. Will look into these few apartments. They do come with free gym and pool facilities right like elsewhere in d world? Is it normal for MNC not to provide accommodation for expats in China? I don’t even have housing allowances 🙁

But after heavy consideration from advices here, I have decided to scale down my personal allowances to RMB 12k a month and see what happens since I decided to come alone for first 1-2 years.

Thanks again guys. Really appreciate for your great advices and help. Means alot to me since im coming to a foreign land like an alien 🙁

I would be working at Wan Xiang North Road, so need to find a place nearby so I can cycle or walk to work daily. Not sure where this part of Chengdu is. Is it a nice area? Expensive?

    Dear Charlie and J.slemmer,

Thank you so much for the reassurance and advice. I was worried as I had the impression Chengdu is an expat area and would be as expensive as Shanghai. With RMB/Yuan 18000.00 do you think I could bring my wife and kids over? Worry that education in private or international schools might cost a bomb. I am budgetting myself to 18000 yuan as would like to save the rest to pay off my mortgages at home fast.

I can live with minimal as I dont drink or gamble nor fancy expensive branded stuffs and I can enjoy a meal with just plain rice and eggs. got it  through my tough childhood and university life.

Just in case I need a car for weekend drive, is it expensive? How much would private schooling cost or are there any alternatives for good education for my 4 and 7 years old daughter. Home schooling is not an option for me as my wife would not be a good teacher.

Thanks again for all your replies. Sincerely appreciate it.

Actually I am keen on a used car ideally german brands. Hope they are not too expensive as compared to the US.

    Thanks
