commune isnt great…but everything else mentioned is very hit or miss that it will have anybody in them. At least commune has people every night of the week. Machu Pichu is pretty decent on thursday for open mic night, but a,lot of foreigners arent here at the moment.

to be fair, ive only been to Berlin Haus twice and was put off by the mix of an awful beer selection and a softcore porno party.

yeah, This crackdown has shut almost everywhere. The leg and whistle has been closed aswell. Helens, Wow, Savage are all identical and pretty poor. Commune is better, and since most beer is in bottles chances are its not fake. The spirits might be fake though.

if its a nice day then shamrock has a decent outside area which is sometimes good. Blue Frog in tai koo li, although a restaurant is good for early evening drinking (happy hour 4-8).

Chengdu feels empty at the moment…quite weird

Commune on lingshiguanlu (领事馆路) is easily one of the busiest places with a good mix of locals and westerners. It’s also in a good area. Nearby is Beer Nest 1 (above average craft beer), McElroys (more miss than hit, but sometimes not bad), Petes Tex Mex (A restaurant, but the frozen margaritas are dreamy) and a few more places dotted around. From what I understand the Polly centre has been shut for the whole month of August because it was a drug den, so that’s out….

Sorry Chris, but I have to disagree with Jah bar and Berlin Haus….both are pretty dire IMO. Jah bar had a time when it was kinda fun, but that was many many years ago…and I just don’t get the a Berlin Haus’ appeal.

Hi there, I wanna reopen this thread as I am thinking about getting Kurt Russell tattoo’d on my person. Anyone know any shops in Chengdu that are able to do portraits? There are dozens of tattoo places knocking about, so I’m very reluctant to leave it to fate…

Did not to say what time?

It was April, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

There is an app my girlfriend uses adhoc when our place needs a going over. I will try and find the name of it, but a company sends an ayi when you are available to let her in within a few hours notice and they do a good enough job. The app lets you pick your ayi too, so if you find a good one you can keep requesting the same one. Fees are 70rmb for 2 hours, 100rmb for 4 hours.

If anyone knows the name of the app/company then let us know, I will endevour to ask my gf if she can tell me and let you know.

I quite like Cantonese food and the two places I hit up are Rose and Wuu’s.

Rose is a chain restaurant with 4 or 5 in Chengdu (CXL, TV Tower, Jinsha, North Wanda, LKF) and its very good for the price (well under 100). They are all pretty consistent regardless of which one you go to, but the one in CXL just accross the road from Parksons mall and horizontal from LV at IFS is usually slightly better, plus it genuinely feels like you are in HK inside.

Wuu’s is a year or 2 old in TKL (upstairs from blue frog), always busy, but very good. Slightly more expensive (100+) but thats TKL for you. They mist have over 100 pages of menu, so it can be slightly overwhelming.

Don’t have a top 10, but some things that teenagers/10 year olds might like are:

Panda Breeding centre, Zoo (Not brilliant, but cheap), Shopping in Chunxilu (and eating cool things Taikooli), Hotpot (essential experience for all ages), Peoples Park is good for a wander about and a cup of tea, Jinli Street.

As for Air BnB, I dont know, but you wanna be centre south of the city near a subway line. I’d say Tongzilin, Nijiaqiao, Sichuan Gymnasium area.

If you like the booze (and find inebriated people charming) then there are few better places to encounter westerners than Commune Bar on a Friday or Saturday night. I’d say the ratio is 2;1 of westerners to Chinese.

Commune is on lingshiguanlu, between Poly Centre and ATT KTV. It’s the old McDonalds, if you knew where that was.

The title of this topic is a bit misleading. You arent selling a 125cc motorbike, you are selling an ebike for an unknown quantity of money.

    Maybe you should change it.

The Huaxiba campus of sichuan uni has a foreign league every Saturday between roughly 1pm and 5pm. There are over 100 foreigners there and if you are half way decent you could find a team. I’d equate the quality to Sunday league/pub league standard. It’s a 5 mins walk from HXB subway stop, get down and get involved.

This question might make me look like a fool, but curiosity has got the better of me. Why does a bike have/need 6GB or RAM?

if you are gonna palm that list off to someone you really should update it first. I just had a quick look. There are at least ten places that have closed down or moved, and at least 20 noteworthy places worth listing.

As stated above, International brands (Nike, Adidas, NB, Under Armour etc) are more expensive here than the UK. Nike and Adidas sometimes have sales, after CNY is a good time for sales almost everywhere. New Balance and Under Armour are never on sale, so if you want them, dont bother waiting around for a sale. I recently paid 819rmb for what I’d class as a 60 quid pair of New Balance.

However, that being said, CXL and Global Centre are no more expensive than any other legit shopping centre in the city, thats just the going rate im afraid.

If you fancy some fakes (I nearly got crippled by fake Adidas) then check Taobao or you may be in luck at the lotus market at the north train station.  The juice may not be worth the squeeze though, as they say in Lahndan – It’s grim up north.

Edited to add: Local Chinese brands can be OK for work-out shoes, Personally I would say Lining are the best of the local brands.

I guess your due to come next month?

4000 is a bit of a piss take really. The average teaching salary in Chengdu these days must be over 10,000. However, with that being said, if you don’t drink in nice bars (upwards of 40rmb a drink, cocktails 50+) and stick to eating local food (I personally would rather go hungry) then you should scrape by on about 3000-3500.

Being blunt, I couldn’t live here on 4000rmb a month.
