I must say that, that article is very different to the recent one that was posted on CQscene. I think that ‘Become a local Laowai’ is a little friendlier in tone. Link to CQscene article below:

A google search for your Wechat details suggests that you are fake. There’s not exactly a lot of history going on there and those pics look slightly generic to say the least.

Regardless of the level of authenticity, it also looks like a bit of monkey job agent to me, your DJs just look like bunch of tarts dancing around in silly costumes, rather than actually mixing. Exactly what an uneducated and uncultured 土豪 audience would love at their shitty neon-light adorned typical shitty Chinese disco clubs.

I’d sooner play at decent underground parties in Chengdu for next to nothing!

There’s a few advertisements going around expat boards that sound almost exactly the same at the moment. Same ‘catch all’ foreign entertainer advertisement. I’ve heard that this may be a PSB scam to catch out people who are doing illegal paid work and stuff.

I replied to one on CQexpat and there was no response. I looked again at the responses and the responses seemed to be a strange nature, 1st posts from all of the new accounts, badly written English, a very random selection of nationalities etc.

Another on wechat asked about my job, and I had to kind of dodge the question. Somebody recommended a friend to them, who plays in a band and they seemed to instantly reply that they somehow knew his band were the best in Chongqing… In actual fact, his band barely play any gigs it seems and certainly aren’t that well known. This rang some alarm bells.

I’d be vary cautious about replying if I was you and if they start asking you questions about your day job/studies rather than your hobby, tell them to f**k off.

There’s a lot of this crap going on, not just on expat websites but on wechat groups or amongst friends on wechat. One of the agents on wechat that I mentioned had actually befriended a foreign friend and had asked him for help finding people.

Be careful about doing any gigs for agents, ask friends if they have previously done stuff for them before.

Also, if any friends get screwed over, let it be known to every foreigner that you know. Fake agents should not be allowed the luxury of personal safety/dignity.

    @rat

Alcohol is a drug… I have never heard of anybody getting violent from smoking a few joints. I have seen more blatant drug taking in Chinese clubs like Muse, Babi etc… In one they were offering K for free on silver platters. WTF is a clown club?

That must have not been that recently though? Ketamine use used to be so open in Chinese nightclubs (like in 2006), even used far more openly than in the early 2000’s in the UK, when Ketamine was actually still LEGAL there (which the possible exception of events with a large gay crowd, they just seemed to absolutely love their K for some reason).

Hope they lock up the floor 21 for ever !! so many place in town where you can party in a decent club safe and free drug !

I’m not a big fan of drugs due to my old age, but drugs are expensive and if there’s any being given out for free, you can’t really complain about it. Say no if you want, but at least be grateful for their offer of free drugs.

Good news, not sure if I’m going, but I’ll see if anybody else from Chongqing would be interested in coming up as well.

I just got my z visa processed. Something which hasn’t been publicised much is the crackdown on people breaking their contracts. I know a few guys in this situation, and one was interrogated strongly by Chengdu PSB recently. If you can’t get a release letter you need to provide evidence of wrongful conduct or breach of contract by your former employer. If you just reply that you found a better job, the PSB will come down on you. I was told that breach of contract by a foreigner is technically grounds for refusal of further work permits, so tread carefully and good luck…

I previously left a company before the end of a contract, handed in the resignation notice, paid a penalty etc in the past, are they likely to hold this kind of thing against you?

I’m likely to change jobs in September. Although I have no intention of breaking my current contract, I wonder about anything that happened previously.

Or are they referring more to teachers that do midnight runs and stuff?
