I’ve been to the Hongxing Lu one. It’s near where Mandarin Corner are based.

Can’t give you a review of the cats because I’m not a cat person and I haven’t got any frame of reference with cat cafes.

But it stank of cats enough to put me off my mango smoothie, if that’s helps provide a barometer.

In theory, one of the benefits is that we get double the pollution in the run up to the holiday but less than average pollution during the holiday…… in theory.

The last few days I’ve been struggling to connect to Strong VPN. I ran a auto detect to find the best server and the speeds it was showing were almost all low.

Have you checked their seasonal opening hours? They might be closed for boxing day (the day after Christmas day).

I had a little look and stopped at the stage where it asks for your phone number. Not sure what is supposed to happen after that. I think it just went live today. I woke up to an update and saw that there were new features for cinema listings.

It’s actually a really handy new feature because it also distinguishes between 2D/3D/Imax or English language and dubbed movies on the listings. Which is not always clear when you are at the cinema.

It seems Baidu maps have added a feature that allows you to check cinema times and even buy tickets.

It trumps Google maps by 1,000,000 points in my book.

So the best way to solve a problem like semi-tolerant complainers is to be intolerant of them?

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Whether their complaints are valid or not they are at least tolerating those things in order to work in China. Something which will presumably be a mutually beneficial exercise.

Perhaps if you tolerated their complaints (or even tried to empathise with them) you might find you could benefit more from these people.

Many schools offer discounts if you buy lots of hours in bulk.

I’ve never paid as much as 100rmb per hour. Some schools would go down to 70rmb (or less) per hour depending on the number of hours you purchase at once.

Obviously you need to consider the quality too, and most schools will offer a 1hr trial class for free so you could take advantage of this to check which offers the most professional teaching.

    FYI,

Tickets can be bought in advance because of holidays. But only for buses leaving before 10am. Anything after 10am must be bought on the day.

    “20rmb”

Speaking in political terms Hong Kong is unquestionably China and there is no dispute over that. Taiwan, on the other hand, has been politically independent in almost every respect for more than half a century.

At the risk of turning this to turn into a Hong Kong debate…

There is no doubt that HK “belongs” to China. However, British passport holders can turn up at Hong Kong and get a 180 day visa without question or prior notice. I’ve been told that mainland Chinese don’t have this luxury. This says very much about how Chinese it is politically speaking.

    @ray

I don’t think that is an implementable policy by the Chinese government. Most people who come to China to teach English are first time teachers.

Besides, it would be easy enough for anybody to fake a reference letter.
