Is that still going? Who’s presenting now, used to be a favourite of mine back home. Never Mind the Buzzcocks was another succinctly British gem.

It’s recently ended it’s 47th series I think. Easy to reach that number when you do two seasons a year. They have a different guest presenter every week, Buzzcocks does the same now too.

Failing the Starbucks concept I know of a cafe where young ladies take their cats and hang out together. If you have or like cats it might be a good place to check out.

    The place stinks though.

I wouldn’t recommend using a Chinese mobile to call the UK. I find that phoning another city in China can be costly enough. The cheapest way to keep in contact is probably email and free communication apps like WhatsApp. Apart from that Skype is probably the best.

One thing I like to do when I’m homesick is download the latest episode of Have I got News for You and and eat some Marmite on toast. You will need to bring the Marmite as you won’t find it here. Worcester sauce can be found here though.

The character is not particularly likeable and when he talks it looks like the voice is dubbed. I’m interested to see what he’s like in other shows but I can imagine this is not his best performance.

I went last August. It was very interesting.

One thing to keep in mind is that Ramadan currently falls in August sometime so your eating options during the daytime will be somewhat limited and most shops will be closed.

I also spent some time in Tashkurgan (last stop before Pakistan) and Urumqi.

Damn, I was going to use that site name for my website dedicated to swing locations in Chengdu.

I haven’t played it myself yet but I’ve stood there rudely staring for a couple of hours trying to work it out.

Here is what I have worked out so far:

Once you have a starter deck(40rmb) and some game tokens (different to the other machines, not sure how much they are) you can play a game. You put in a team name, select your badge and kit etc.

Your starter deck will usually be some pretty lame cards (players), but you’ll get the right cards to put out a proper team not just 11 goalkeepers. The cards have all the typical stats you would find on a top-trumps card so it’s pretty obvious what they are. Only parts of the cards themselves are in Chinese, some of it is in English.

It seems like you can play a game against a CPU a real person over the internet or someone sat next to you.

To play a match you place your players (cards) in the formation you want them to play on the table/field in front of you. When you play the game they move around themselves and you press the buttons to tackle, pass or shoot. You can change the formation during play too by just moving the cards around. You can also make substitutions. Each match lasts about 10 mins.

It also seems like after each match the machine spits out 1 random new card. In true collectible card tradition you can get different types of cards. White and black are common, the latter being slightly better. Silver is rare and gold is much rarer. Silver being recent legends like Beckham or Henry. Gold being old legends like Pele or George Best.

You can train your players after (or before, not quite sure) to improve them. The menus are all in Chinese so it’s difficult to know what your doing at this point. It’s unclear if it’s experience points or anything like that.

There are other factors in the game too, like attitude which declines if they play too much or get injured.

The website is It’s all in Chinese.

When I went there on Saturday I met a guy who said he would help me learn how to play sometime. I’m hoping to get down there sometime this week to try it out. Possibly Friday evening.

I don’t play Magic but I had -for a long time- been pondering the idea of playing the football (or soccer if you wish) card game that can be found in the Raffles City games arcade.

Today I took the plunge and got bought some cards. It looks like great fun. Only problem with it is that you need to pay money every time you want to play. The machine does compensate you by giving you a new card every game (win or lose).

I think that is unquestionably the best resource available for learning everything about Bitcoin.

Pretty great for a lot of other stuff too. He has a knack for explaining stuff very clearly. Particularly maths and economics stuff.

    BREAKING NEWS!

CCTV report earthquake… hours after the actual event.

    *edit*

Earthquake report was rudely interrupted because Obama was giving a statement about bad things that are happening elsewhere and not in China.

It made the top 3 BBC articles for about 10 mins.

    BBC

I got a message from a Chinese friend, I asked what I should do, she said “lol.sleep”

So I turned on the TV and put on CCTV News(English) and there was no mention of anything except the Boston bomber being caught. Then I ate some Marmite on toast and drank a coffee.

    Exciting story.

Anybody who is thinking of leaving the building should do so in my opinion. But only because last night’s rain has left the sky looking (slightly) blue!

Exactly. Renting the space and equipment. Not sure why I couldn’t have just said that.

I’m in London right now and I took a free studio lighting workshop last night. I found it very interesting so I was curious what the chances were for me to mess around in a studio a bit when I return to Chengdu.

Japanese Ramen place in Jiuyanqiao. Forgot what it was called, but this place is awesome.

The one opposite Underground? That place is great. They have a second restaurant in the Silver mall on Chunxi lu. I tend to go for the 48rmb set meals in stead of the rice.

Another great place to get ramen is the noodle bar in the Isetan basement supermarket. It can be a bit of a guessing game when ordering unless you speak or read Chinese. There’s normally a queue unless you go at the right time.

Tandoor opposite the Bookworm tastes good but the prices are excessive and the portions too small.

@charlie I took a little walk past the Sichuan Music University today. It looks very promising but I didn’t have time to speak to anybody about lessons.

You also helped me find a shortcut home from Kaffe Stuggan.
