You can deposit a US check to your bank account in China. Takes about 4 weeks to clear, but exchange rates are pretty decent and no other fees. MB, ICBC & BOC offer good exchange rates (in that order)
BalaParticipantIs there a phone number? Thanks.
BalaParticipant@ben, Thanks. I stand corrected!
I forgot that citizens of ZOB don’t need visas or passports.
That is probably because citizens of ZOB are not known to abuse their visa privileges 😀
BalaParticipantIMO, the visa changes are probably unfounded rumors. All Chinese embassy websites I checked, still carry the same visa types and F is very much there. An email to them got me pretty much the same info as below:
http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/visas/zgqz/t943855.htm
http://au.china-embassy.org/eng/ls/vfc/t1038740.htm
http://www.chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/visa/
http://www.chinaembassy.org.nz/eng/lsqz/prcd/I very much doubt, not updating any of the worldwide embassy website is an oversight.
BalaParticipantWelcome to China! Where all your dreams….are deceptively turned into headaches. 😀
Good one!

BalaParticipantVery interesting thread!
A little while back, I had called two property developers in Chengdu (both property under construction) and they picked me up and took me to the location. The price, once we reached there, was almost 50% more than the price advertised on the billboards! The company rep. gave some weird explanation about common-areas being included in the price, none of which made any sense to me! Is that a standard practice?
Also, curious to know what is the actual process to get the title deed (I assume it is done by the government?) and what would be the additional cost as % over the sale price for all of this (tax, fees, etc)?
BalaParticipant@Charlie, thanks!
I had been to a few, the most memorable being the laoma tou, another one very close to the European city and one more near the hi-tech zone.
In spite of the Fèngcì, I am now addicted to that stuff!
BalaParticipant@Rick, thanks for the clarification.
For smaller sums, using the ATM card outside the country may be easier!
BalaParticipant>>First and foremost, you need a Chinese friend with a bank account >>at the bank you’re using
I hope the local friend doesn’t get into trouble for “money laundering”! I am told there is a $50,000 limit on both incoming and outgoing a year, beyond which things invite a strict scrutiny.
BalaParticipant@Kim, thanks!
BalaParticipantI have been using http://www.hideipvpn.com/premium_vpn/ whenever I am in China, with good results. Its a paid service, though.
Hope that helps!
