Chris DrewParticipant
Hello Marian,
Yes, received your PM. Please check your email. Thanks
Chris DrewParticipantSweet, take the metro to the Luo Ma Shi station (just past Tianfu) and walk East two blocks.
Chris DrewParticipantCharlie, I also saw the movie in SF and I know it’s still playing around the Bay Area. Best bet is the Metreon in SF.
Chris DrewParticipantHaving seen the movie back in the US I can tell you that the 2 1/2 hour movie will probably be cut down to about 8 minutes. The 8 minutes will show guys on horseback and will contain no dialogue. If the authorities allow the N word to be used you can look forward to about a 45 minute movie.
Chris DrewParticipantMany companies will ship items to Chengdu (or anywhere for that matter) but the costs of shipping make this pretty unappealing sometimes. As it seems you have time before your move it would be best to order anything you think you might need now. If your company provides you with a shipment you can go crazy buying stuff and bringing it over as it’s on the company’s dime. Even if you have to bring over items in your checked luggage the extra hassle or baggage fees will save you money in the end.
Chris DrewParticipantCharlie, just tried Myeongdong Korean Restaurant and left pretty happy. Fried chicken for 2 people ran RMB59 and we had some Ramen noodles and 炒年糕 as well. The chicken was really good and the owner is a nice guy.
Chris DrewParticipantI have always been a big fan of A Boluza’s lunch special. A full-size pizza (try the pancetta), a soup or salad and a coffee. At RMB70 it’s a decent price and will fill you up. The service here isn’t great, but with only 6 tables it’s not too hard to get what you need. A Boluza is located deep in the maze of restaurants behind the Carrefour in Tongzilin.
A more budget friendly option is Rice Plus. My favorite is the Japanese Pork Curry for RMB 23 or so for a large serving. I usually do delivery for this and it’s always at my door in less than 20 minutes. I believe they are still closed at the moment but should open again soon.
Chris DrewParticipantI had Dream Satellite installed in my home about 3 years ago. Originally, it was a feed from the Philippines. Currently, it is a feed from HK. Nowadays I believe it costs roughly RMB2000 for a system like this installed and then RMB400 per year beginning the second year. This setup has about 15 Chinese channels and then around 20 foreign channels (HBO, Cinemax, Star Movies, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, Discovery, AXN, National Geographic etc.). They have to install a satellite dish, receiver and you need to have an internet connection as well. If you’d like the number of the person who installed mine send me a message, he’s still around doing this.
