Nothing wrong with Zhonghai International, really. It’s only a short drive down the highway to Foxconn. Walmart there, McD’s, Subway Sdwch, Starbucks, plus lots of other local and varied restaurants about. If you want quick subway access into the city yet still be near your company, try the Poly apartments at BaiCao road Subway station.

Living in Tongzilin/Yulin (south) and working in Xipu sounds like a nightmare, though living particularly around other foreigners holds no currency for me. Honestly the subway system is fast enough to get you anywhere reasonable in less than an hour – 30 mins most likely. Faster once the circle line opens up. But rush hour on those things is quite unpleasant.

    Hi Infallible Star

Certainly the biggest problem you face is education for the two older kids. The two-year old could grow up Chinese if you so like. Your older children would in no way simply mesh into the Chinese public school system (where at that age there is tremendous exam stress). Then, as you say, international schools would monetarily flush a family of five. Home schooling seems to be the best option, which doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do it all. There are Chinese tutors in everything (most importantly maths and science) – for a low price. You, of course, would be the authority on their English learning. Then, you let the kids run loose on the streets of Chengdu to get everything else they’d need to grow up in this country.

Haha, dang. USA propaganda is far more intelligent than using rap videos. The CIA has been working on it for decades. Just an example:

Consider the deadliest month in the Iraq war, when most civilians and soldiers were killed. Do you know what the media was reporting? Michael Jackson’s death for 6 months or more. That’s a more elevated form of propaganda. I really don’t feel the need to explain this garbage to people who don’t want to know. You’re gonna have to figure it out yourself. Oh, and by the way, two tanks of jet fuel can drop over a million tons of steel at the speed of gravity. Keep on drinking that Kool-Aid bro.

propaganda? Based on your post, they haven’t lied at all. Compared to the USA, it’s nothing.

Is the police registration necessary for a tourist extension? I had thought that the hotels were responsible for your local registration. I’m not sure because it’s been a while since I’ve extended.

Don’t overstay your visa. The cost/penalties could vary depending on who’s working the border – anywhere from 300yuan per day to jail time.

All you have to do is go to the Public Security Bureau, which is at Tianfu Square (city center), the building just left of the Mao ZeDong statue. The people in there on the third floor will get you an extension for a few hundred yuan, depending on your nationality. Just go in a few days before your current visa expires.

I saw a young lady walking down the street wearing a white t-shirt that had in big, bold letters the single word: “anal”.

    —–

I was walking to work when I came upon a young guy and girl having a very heated argument in the bike lane. They were both breathing heavily. The kid was being berated by the girl when he suddenly took off into traffic, darting as fast as he could across the road. She chased him just as quickly, though she was barefoot. They both nearly got hit by a car. I watched her chase him into the adjacent square, not losing a step. As I continued down my road, I came across the girl’s platform sandals, laying about 10 yards apart on the sidewalk. I figured the guy was either a thief or an errant boyfriend trying to get out! Hahaha… If I were a betting man, I’d place money on the girl actually catching him and beating the crap out of him. He was just a little punk and she was on a serious mission.

As far as your job and finances, I don’t think you’d run into too many problems. The VPN issue might be a headache from time to time, though I don’t use one, so I don’t really know.

Your biggest concern would be your baby, I suppose. Kindergarten seems to be the most costly concern for Chinese parents. After that, If you don’t mind sending your kid to a public primary school, the cost should be next to nothing (can anyone verify this?). If you require private/international schools and such, the costs will quickly skyrocket. I don’t think I’d subject a child of mine to the Chinese education system -at least after primary school.

If your wife has a huge family in Sichuan, I’d expect that your in-laws will get involved in every single decision you make about your child. Your family could be different, but that would be the exception not the rule.

Air quality, food safety…. what can I say other than they come with the territory? People make a big deal about food safety here, but I don’t really see many problems, especially compared with hormone and additive-laden foods found in American supermarkets. They have international supermarkets and organic shops here, too.

One other bit of advice. If you really decide to move here, start learning Chinese – as in yesterday. It will not only facilitate life here, but earn you more respect and also enrich your true understanding of China – not that anyone will ever complete that undertaking!

Nice one! Thanks for sharing that link. Definitely one of the best “laowai” comics I have read. The author got an eye for the small details of life. Quite a few “Fritz the CAT”esque characters. I think I have met a few of them…

Thanks man, took me 5 years. Glad somebody could recognize something! ;P

Yeah, your hotel is a bit out there. But if you walk outside, pretty much any noodle place or whatever will do good food for you. Just point gently at the other customers’ food to order.

If you really want to see Chengdu, maybe add me. I might have time next week. I’ll take you around.

You can private message me here on CD.

And Hillary Clinton wins New York. And all these tax dollars go to ensuring a “democracy”. In fact, the elite class makes sure things go their way. Funnybusiness at elections always occurs when the globalist candidate is threatened. Happened with Ron Paul, now happens with Bernie Sanders. I can’t stand New Yorkers. 10 dollars for a pint of beer? and you like it that way? Go fuck yourselves.

I’ve had pho a few times, in vietnam even. I don’t understand the draw. It was mostly just a really plain soup. But maybe I’m missing something. Is anyone generous enough to explain the flavor profile as it should be? thanks

“Hey everybody I am trying to renew my passport here in Chengdu and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am from America by the way if that makes any kind of difference.”

No, in fact. There is a world government now, which will renew any passport which belongs to the NWO (they will not add pages, however). It’s a big prison-like structure on NijiaQiao. Don’t take pictures and don’t walk on the sidewalk that was paid for by local taxes (also, don’t try to project images on the consulate wall, because that was against the law last time we checked). The NWO are big time fascists, so be sure to bring ten copies of every document you’ve ever owned. And also be prepared to press a red button which murders via drone any random family in Syria or Pakistan, etc.

“Very coincidentally I was wondering the same thing, except I’m British.” [The idiocy continues]

British are heathens, so therefore they have to go to a special “British” consulate. It happens to be in Chonqging above a shopping mall. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Someone could open a real buffalo wings place. Mike’s is fine of course, but there could be a dedicated spot. I’ve had many versions of chinese hot wings and they all pretty much sucked -except local flavored bbq style. they’re the easiest thing in the world to make, you just have to create the atmosphere.
