Historical names of Sichuan / Chengdu explained.

    [巴蜀] “Ba Shu”

Chengdu was the capital of Shu, western kingdom in Sichuan.

And Chongqing was one of the capitals of Ba Kingdom located in eastern region of Sichuan Basin.

both regimes were annexed into Qin/Chin[秦] kingdom . state (Capital: Xi’an) during late 4th century BC

Since then, the Chinese word “Shu”[蜀] becomes identical to Sichuan and everything associated to Chengdu.

Regular police in China avoid carrying firearm during routine duty because they can’t afford losing it.

it’s also an excuse for them to avoid troubles and danger.

They only want to stay in this government job of rest of their lives.

    google “yang jia” “shanghai” “police”

    you will understand more.

Yang was a guy without military training, randomly killed 6 shanghai policemen with a KNIFE, in the station in Shanghai, 2008

    Some facts:

Pope is translated as 教宗, literally “Church Patriarch “in HK Taiwan and overseas Chinese and catholic communities. This is an appropriate translation.

In communist ruled mainland, Pope is translated as 教皇 , literally “Church Emperor”,

For communists, Vatican is a sovereign state, rather than a church.

Beijing confiscated all church properties since 1950s, and the Catholic Church, like all other organisations, was outlawed. Therefore, Vatican refused to acknowledge Beijings legitimacy over Taiwan where freedom of religion is observed.

It is purely politics and diplomacy.

Last July I posted “Do you hear the people sing” from the 10th anniversary concert, video with chinese subtitles on Weibo to show my support for the people in Shifang protesting the planned toxic chemical factory. But people can’t understand it.

Chinese goverment didn’t censor this musical film, they couldn’t even be bothered to do so. As they predicted, most people cant understand it at all, those few who like film and understand music, usually make a good living and are unlikely to be troublemakers.

a joke, from my friend close to the city government:

the chengdunese, suffering from roadwork traffic jams and detours and air pollutions, have fiercely cursed the current CD party boss Huang Xinchu, who commissioned all these roadworks since his appointmnet, on the internet. He was given a nickname “黃挖挖” Huang WaWa, or Huang Dig Dig. It becomes a topic tag on weibo, (china microblog)

Huang was angry, and requested Sina to filter out this derogative nickname and all other negative posts about him.

Sina replied him, “Service only available to central government state leaders”

The very problem in china is: china locals do not have a reliable place to save and invest. Stock market? forget it, “you enter the market with a BMW, come out with a bicycle”

    bank? <1% interest rate return.

then real estate becomes the only sensible choice for investment.
