DannyParticipant
19th floor of Poly Center. Just follow the smell of dank.
DannyParticipantThe mixtape was dope. I would like to point out that the East is sorely underrepresented without Wu Tang
DannyParticipantHello,
I would just like to ask if there is some decent gym, not overcrowded in the evening, in Tian Fu Square or Fu Li Square neighbourhood.
I visited one in Fu Li Square but it looks to be totally packed in the late afternoons …
I joined the one you mentioned in Fuli last year. Its decent as far as Chinese gyms go, I got the annual price down to 1900rmb. They say they have filtered air inside, don’t really know if theres any truth behind it, but the locker room smells like ass.
their machines are complete, one bench press, one incline, one decline, military bench, unfortunately no squat rack, just a smith machine. it does get a little full before dinnertime, never too packed, and for some reason, this gym has a lot of hot girls, including the trainers and receptionists
DannyParticipantJust fyi, your phone is old as shit and will not sell for 2500rmb BRAND NEW, much less secondhand. 1000rmb seems like a more reasonable price, considering the fact that not many people want a 3+ year old phone that’s been continuously touched by someone’s dirty fingers and greasy face and spittle all up in the mic.
Almost, most apps in the Apple App Store stop supporting models that are 3+ years old, cuz the hardware is too outdated. So your phone will be completely useless within the year.
DannyParticipantIf I buy the 200RMB DIY kit through the taobao store, does it come with English instructions?
DannyParticipantNice, one of my favorite beers back in college. Chinese people definitely need to be exposed to better beer, considering they think Heineken is classy and whatnot.
DannyParticipantWait, so you’re the one asking for money and you want the person LENDING to be trustworthy? What?
DannyParticipantGo to The Spot!! Always a healthy population of foreigners there , students and business people alike.
Chengdu is a lot more developed and foreigner-friendly than most places in India. I’d actually say there are more foreign creepers here than Chinese creepers, like other people have said, you’re going to be safe here unless you go looking for trouble.
DannyParticipantVery generous of you Charlie
DannyParticipantdo you have wechat? haven’t gotten around to charging my phone card yet.
When i moved to chengdu, I used Shentong carrier, pick the slow service (train instead of plane) and it should be about 9rmb/kg. I mailed over 50kg worth of stuff, and total was less than 500 rmb.
also im interested in your speakers, so please hit me up if you see this:

DannyParticipantyo cat, won’t let me reply to your pm for some reason.
hit me up on wechat: dannylou88
DannyParticipantHere We Go had a rooftop party this weekend for Sat and Sun on the roof of Wangfujing, thats why their bar was closed. The party was dope, lots of alcohol, no entry fee (if you’re slick), and lots of drunk shenanigans.
DannyParticipantHey Keith,
Don’t really bike much in China, but I’ve seen some bike riding groups on this forum, you should definitely check them out.
Live music, do you consider DJs doing their own set to be live music? If yeah, then there are lots of places to go. If you want actual local bands, a lot of the 5-star hotels invite bands to play at their bars (Shangri-La, Ritz). I’m from California, so I’m fine with EDM blasting from some loud speakers. They have that at even the grimiest of clubs.
Depends on which district to live, but good food is everywhere. A lot of the old traditional famous places are in Qingyang district (where I live), but Wuhou and especially Tongzilin also have a lot of good Western food.
Hope you have fun your 2nd time around, I’ve been here 2 months and Chengdu is one of the dopest cities I’ve lived in, you can add me on wechat: dannylou88
DannyParticipantEpic day yesterday. I spent 90% of the time at the EDM stage, the DJ was definitely melting people’s faces off. Took an hour and a half to get back to downtown Chengdu afterwards, 40rmb per person in an unmarked rapist van.
DannyParticipant@Dick in China
If you have to try to make other people look dumb just to make yourself look smart, you’ve already failed.
DannyParticipantYeah, when over half of the houses/apartments on the market are being sold or rented by investors instead of actual families, you know something bad is about to happen. I say it’ll reach breaking point sometime within the next 10 years.
DannyParticipantNow I’m actually working at an English tutoring center, taking a well-deserved break from the hospitality industry haha.
Its good that your management level has at least some Western influence, like I said, my experience was at an all-Chinese Hilton, meaning everyone from the GM down was all local Chinese, only the MTs were foreign and they worked us like mules (or show ponies on special occasions). I hear good things about the HJ dim sum lunch, I will probably come check it out in the coming months.
And yeah, definitely keep in touch, you can add me on wechat: dannylou88. See you around!
DannyParticipantIts an annual Chinese holiday, along the lines of Memorial Day in the US, although I’m not quite sure what they’re celebrating. Just know that schools and workplaces are usually off that day, and there should be a lot of public gatherings for festivities.
DannyParticipantGrats on the job. I spent two years (2012-early 2014) as a MT in Doubletree Hilton, thankfully I only spent a few months at F&B, and the rest was at the front desk. Let me tell you, being a MT at an all-Chinese managed hotel is frustrating to say the least, they don’t listen to any of your suggestions, and me being Chinese-American, I didn’t have the foreigner appeal because I still look completely Chinese, so they had me pouring coffee and waiting tables until I got into a huge argument with management and they put me at the front desk, where I excelled. Hopefully you have a better experience at your hotel, and remember to be assertive and do not let the leaders there walk all over you or use you for their advantage. You are there to learn and grow, so take what you can!
DannyParticipantHey Charlie. I moved to China in 2012 for a Hilton hotels management training program in Wuxi. After the 2 year program ended, my relatives in Chengdu convinced me to come here to gain some more work experience and to soak in the culture for another year before I go back home to the US.
What I miss most about California is longboarding, the streets here are filled with holes, dog poop, and spit..
