Where do you guys book cheap international flights? I use Qunar but usually I’m just browsing aimlessly, not really knowing where or when the best deals from Chengdu are. There must be a website for this in China…

I normally use skyscanner to compare prices on international flights.

Anyone have any idea if season tickets are available, or how that works?

Yeah, season tickets are available. There are 19 home games in total and it works out around 200 rmb cheaper over the course of the season. A season ticket for the cheap seats is 1680rmb.

Tickets for Sunday are priced 120, 220, 480, 1180 (this is one of the 6 games that are more expensive). Normal games are 90, 150, 320, 680. The two more expensive areas are both courtside.

I used to have a subscription to 4-4-2 (a well known football magazine). About half of them didn’t arrive. Recently a t-shirt I bought from a website in the UK didn’t arrive.

The address was written in pinyin and chinese characters.

Other things have arrived without problems. It just seems to be luck of the draw what arrives and what doesn’t.

The chopsitcks thing isn’t big here but it still means something in Taiwan where they have retained a lot of the traditional culture. It’s supposed to represent incense sticks on a grave. I found that out on my first night there, everybody looked at me in horror when I did it.

    Charlie,

There aren’t any spaces left. As far as I know they already have 16 teams confirmed and 1 back-up team.

Awesome! Currently there is no go-to place to watch a lot of these games. I’m curious about NBA and NFL games in particular – I assume these won’t be shown live at the Clubhouse because they will air in the morning, but is there any chance that replays or anything will be available? How will those type of games work? I assume the football and rugby games being shown on the 23rd aren’t live.

Everything on that list is live except from Argentina v South Africa rugby.

Flight was smooth and service was fine (especially after they realised they could speak Chinese with me instead of English), but the IFE was rubbish with one straight-to-DVD movie being the only English one, and the rest being Chinese/Russian/Korean/magicians (and I was told I couldn’t use my iPad). Food was okay, and the bed was okay although not fully flat, not that me as an economy traveler cares too much..

Couldn’t use an iPad? That’s strange. Last year when flying between cities in Germany an old guy next to me asked me to stop using my iPad because it wasn’t allowed – I paged the stewardess and asked her and she said it was fine to use. Phones are a problem though – I was on a flight from Paris to Shanghai two days ago and a French kid next to me using his phone to watch BMX videos was furious when the stewardess told him he couldn’t use his phone during the flight. Anything that can make calls is disallowed.

Really have to big up Etihad here. In flight entertainment was excellent. Live TV (I was watching wimbledon live), electrical and USB sockets with every seat, and wifi on the plane (21 US$ for a 24 hour wifi pass). Made the flight go a lot quicker!

I’ve noticed a lot more police stops outsisde the 3rd ring road recently.

In the daytime or after work/dinner time? They had a lot around 3rd ring to check motorbike riders for drunk driving, but I haven’t seen any to check bikes for legitimacy..

8.30am, on the road heading out south from Ikea.

Also saw police pulling motorbikes at the junction of kehua and 2.5 ring road today at 2pm. At least 10 confiscated motorbikes sitting at the side of the road.

Oh, and if you really need gas you can tell the attendant that your bike is new. There is a 30 day grace period after you buy a vehicle in Ch!na in which you’re allowed to ride around un-plated. “I just bought it, i collect the plates and paper work next week…”

No chance of that with my bike, it has been in a few ‘scrapes’ haha

Never had any problems with the gas filling but I’ve noticed a lot more police stops outsisde the 3rd ring road recently.

Wait, is this NFL or EPL? Is there an EPL Fantasy league going this year? Because i really want to join

There is an EPL head-to-head league but all 20 spots are taken. Could start a classic league as there are lots of people interested.

I flew Return Chengdu to London direct on British Airways. Was great. It’s a new route for BA so the plane was empty. Everyone on board had an entire row to themselves :D Flight departure/arrival times are really convenient too. 5-6k return. Better paying the extra thousand to fly direct imo. Flight time is about 10 hours. Highly recommended.

5-6k return, really? I went to the UK in July and they were quoting 9k. I ended up flying with Etihad. Chengdu – Abu Dhabi – Manchester for about 6800.

The Chengdu – Abu Dhabi flight was great. Would definitely recommend it.
