@Miya, Yeah, we’re onto you. After years of experience in the Israeli inteligence services we’re capable of finding posts about restaurants in the few active forums of foreigners in Chengdu 🙂

Basically, I think it would be required nowadays to go online and be in touch with the community and what they are saying about you. You can learn a lot from those independent reviews, What is good and what is bad, and sometimes relate directly when needed. We do it because we care about our customers and what they think about us.

As for Vincent, I kinda agree with him. This thread’s title is Local Restaurants, and The Spot is exactly the opposite. However, granted that the conversation has taken this turn, and the group decided to go to eat in The Spot, We will be very happy to serve them this Tuesday (which will be French night) or any other time they come.

@ Kelsey, The Spot is not a “Mediterenean Restaurant” per se, but our chef Avi has done any food style you could imagine since going into kitchen business at 14 yrs old, and he’s doing Tuesdays himself. Apart from The Spot I would also like to join the recomendations for “Safari”. Sam is a great guy, and a good friend, his food is great, and the decor is my fav. in Chengdu. Check it out, It’s really good.

@Jerry S, Good for you! To each his own. Many people lately tend to compare us to the Lazy Pug or take sides. I personally think The Lazy Pug is an awesome place. The food is great and the atmosphere too. And of course Dana and Dan are always fun to talk too. I’ve been there many times (and enjoyed every time), and they’ve been to our place. Basically I think this town, and even the laowai community here is big enough for two restaurants that do burgers, don’t you think? There is no rivalry between us, we’re actually both working on the same effort of creating a ‘scene’ in Chengdu. So for us it’s a pleasure to see the Lazy Pug succeed. But if you want to take sides, or be Loyal, it’s cool. and even if you just downright don’t like us or what we do, also no harm done.

To sum it all up, Spread love guys. Us restaurant owners are all here to make you, the customers happier.

    Cheers

“They are hook up venues that facilitate foreigners and Chinese girls who pursue foreigners”.

Not sure exactly what that means. Provided 90% or more of our clients are chinese and our income comes mostly from chinese hands, I don’t understand why the Jellyfish keeps being referred to as catering to foreigners or as a place for foreign males to meet Chinese girls.

As I said before, we make the best and happiest enviroment we can for people to come and enjoy, and everyone is invited (therefor the use of popular music, which is by definition the most common, and broadly loved music style). And indeed everyone does come. True, foreign guys have hooked up with Chinese girls, but Chinese guys have also hooked up with Chinese girls, foreign guys with foreign girls, and yes, even foreign girls with Chinese guys. Not to mention all girl-girl, or guy-guy combinations, and not to mention all the people coming just for drinking, dancing, mingling and having non-sexual fun.

    Cheers

    Hello

As a part of the Jellyfish management I wanted to comment on this thread.

We are there to make people happy, and everyone is invited. Some people like us and some people don’t, some like our music and some don’t, and that’s understandable, you can’t please everyone.

But I had to make a few points clear.

    1. In the past we did pay a few dancers, on big parties and hollidays, the party would stop and all attention would be drawn to 1-3 professional dancers who would go for one dance and then go down. This last year and half we haven’t payed any dancer. Any girl (or guy) you see dancing on the bar is doing so volunteerly, and would get a free shot from us at most.

    2. We never did use ‘bees’ in the jellyfish and none of the guests in the bar are hired or paid for. If you see “single looking girls” it’s probably because they are single.

    3. As far as STDs go, STD is a problem everywhere in Chengdu, China and the world. However, one doesn’t get STDs by “getting near that place” and if you are careful about who you sleep with and how, you should be fine.

    4. All alcohol we use is as real as it gets in Chengdu. Just as much as we ourselves would not want to drink fake alcohol, we wouldn’t give it to others. Also, from a business point of view, selling fake alcohol would never be worth the extra profit, damaging our customers health and our own reputation.

That’s all I wanted to say. Wishing everyone a good day and happy (belated) new year

    Love

    Amir
