The prices for shipping varies items to items if doing it through Amazon. Doing it from a proxy/warehouse, it tends to be cheaper because of lumping it all together. Also Taobao may not have certain items and if they do, they are jacked up (1.5-2x times the prices listed in the US).

As for the Reece’s, i tend to buy it by the pound, not ounces…. Rather taste it and not lick my forearm with the cologne…. Last year i spent 200 USD for Reece’s, 100 for shipping and 100 for 2 boxes of king size cups… I tend to go all out when i buy these types of things…

I will give this a shot and calculate my costs, from the proxy vs Amazon prices vs taobao if avail. From many locals, the proxy seems to be good, because they can buy ‘Lee or Levi’ jeans for low prices.. Vs buying it on taobao for 400RMB to 1k….

Of course looking at it deeply, supporting the US gov’t is not justified. On a facial level, i guess the ‘American’ in me comes out. But yea, like you, i feel the same. Washington is pretty fucked up, the difference between DC and Chinese gov’t is that DC has too many factions and can not keep anything stable (cuts to shit ton of programs, budget woes, waning of infrastructures, war on drugs, ect ect). Then there’s the military war complex… Another issue within itself. I bet you read that the Pentagon is cooking their books, like you said earlier Billions and billions goes unaccounted for. Thankfully Snowden is leaking info, other countries are mustering up the courage to ‘shame’ the US. But with the US leading the world in military might, i highly doubt any reform will come against the US.

Like the new healthcare website. I would imagine that the site was not made by tech savoy technicians, but rather those who bid for a gov’t contract… And thusly it becomes a circle jerk for the media to let the lemurs talk about this instead of the real issues (as i wrote from one paragraph up).

Whoa, did not know how bad the ball was. All i can think of ‘Do my patriotic duties’ and attend the ball, but im too lazy for that heh. ‘The Box’ sounds like solitary confinement to me. No cell phones for 8-12 hour shifts must blow! As for their housing.. I knew a US Marine a a few years ago, he had a pretty sweet pad on the Waterfront. The price for it was about… 20-30k RMB per month! So yea, the US gov’t paid for his sweet pad.. And i mean sweep/pimpin pad!

There are always US Marines at the consulate, the US Marine Ball Gala happens once a year, not sure when the tradition started. I known a few Marines in CD in the past. Many of whom work long ass hours.

Hope this ‘high profile’ person isnt Justin Beiber, if it is, fuck him. Otherwise, i wont care less on who it is… Unless Scarlett Johansson!

Good question, looks like it’s going through renovation? There was plans for the US consulate moving to the High Tech Zone, not sure if they are gearing up for that. Or maybe Chinese gov is looking for an CIA’s black site in the consulate. Some Jason Bourne shit here!

Teaching ESL in Chengdu isnt about the money. Some people can suffice living off of 6000 rmb a month. I would imagine they work less hours than a full time person. A Sichuan Uni teacher makes about 4500 and 1500 for housing, not bad for less than 16 hours per week. So what can someone do on their 5 days off? Well whateva he or she wants! (average is about 100 RMB per hour or so).

Look Frankie, if you support CTFU, good on you. If you done your research on SEO, you’ll realize that CTFU is spamming different boards. I commented on the sketchiness of CTFU and of course the salary ideas they provided does not compute with Chengdu Culture and market place for pricing of teachers. Why would someone pay 300 RMB an hour for English, unless it’s specialized field of study? If the market does demand that, then i would imagine PHD dudes from states would flood the supply side for the need.

As for the post being deleted, it is common for SEO retards to send cease and desist messages or they threaten legal issues, because well.. Internets and SEO can and will try to sue people who ‘defame them.’ Or some other god forsaken reason.

    http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=103895&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=135&sid=f80f9865a51c6c9f66a812cec6c44c71

If you check that thread out, 10 pages of bickering (like we are doing now) on how CTFU and their cronies are spamming the threads of ‘testimonials.’ New accounts pop up and give their share of ideas of CTFU and ‘agreeing’ with them (there is a common IP address between them, source from a Mod), while using citation and statistics wrongly if i may add.

As for ‘unions.’ Here is the definition: <span>an organized association of workers formed to protect and further their rights and interests; a labor union.
    </span>

The word ‘Union’ in CTFU is what really threw me off. Of course if it’s a true union, there would be a governing body and head while collecting dues. If you used CTFU, then did you pay an overhead fee to get them to negotiate? How much was it 3k? Are they collecting dues per month or else the schools will be ‘black listed’ on CTFU’s website?

Average price for teaching English in Chengdu (if you really done your research instead of relying on CTFU) is 110-150 RMB an hour: key word is average, not highest or lowest or any outlier. Pay average is higher if the teacher is spectacular. One can go through a training school to achieve this wage or find students on their own. Having one’s own school, you can make, say 60,000 RMB a month. OMG WOW ALL THAT MONEYZZZZ! But guess what, having money has more issues. No free time. I know a bud in Beijing who does this (but with the new law in place, he has to move shop to another Provence.. Pity no?)., he has more complications than good.

So if your goal is money and do not want to get butt fucked up the ass, open your own school. If you are content with Chengdu’s life style, take what ever job you want that gives you the flexibility to bask in the culture (i am on this path and so are many others).

Re: 8000 RMB and 1k housing could mean that the school is outside 3rd ring road. Nothing here is black and white and only matters within the sounding area of the school. 8k RMB, you can live like a king (look at other threads of cost of living in Chengdu). You also have to see the work schedule. Possibly 4 hours teaching per day or less, which can justify the pay. Which is average 113 RMB per hour; includes airfare, 1-2 months off per year with pay, ect ect.

Now the biggest scam is Peace Corp. Shitty pay for long hours, but it’s not about the money now is it?

“China Foreign Teachers Union and all associated sites are part of a fraud/extortion ring being run by Bruce Gorcyca aka Anthony DiMarco. A convicted felon and current fugitive on the run from the US.

More information about who this is is available here:
    http://www.419advancefeefraud.blogspot.com/2011/09/anthony-dimarco-and-china-trade.html

His (numerous) accounts have already been banned at most expat forums.”

So yea…. Take things with a grain of salt. So by google’in this, the SEO is strong for this ‘union.’

If you got help from this website, good on you. I would not recommend it to others those, since it looks dubious at best.

CTFU looks like an SEO website. Personally, i would stay away from those who would gin up their ‘hits’ by spamming different boards. And seriously… Foreign Teacher’s Union? So who do i pay union dues to? Yang Zhang Hoffa?

After skimming through their website for a few seconds… I would stay away from them. Of course it’s dubious at best when taking any advice from a website that makes claims without real statistical data (from surveys and legit citation). I mean, 300 RMB an hour to teach English? Esp with the new Chinese laws in place, GL hagglin for dough like that!
