Great ride today!! 2.5hours, 70km, and a fun adventure getting 高铁 tickets back to the city without passports and bikes that are “forbidden” from being taken on trains.

If anyone plans to ride out and train it back I recommend bringing your passport and a tape measure. For your reference, any item that doesn’t exceed 1.3m is allowed on trains. Bicycles with a front wheel removed do not by the way, much to the chagrin of train station security.

he filters come in just one size and should just cup around the mouth/nose and force polluted air to travel through the filter.

mis-spoke yesterday, the filters come in large and medium to fit their corresponding masks.

Respro filters are also good for 70 hours of cycling, according to their website. I don’t think their research/tests were done in China but at least it is a gauge for when they should be changed.

How would one upgrade the sportsa to techno. Do you have the replacement nozzle and filter?

To upgrade any Respro you just need to get the filter of the model you want since they are all interchangeable. Because we are in China and have direct contact with the manufacturer, all the mask models we carry have the highest level filter in them (Techno) right in the package. Next week we’ll have replacement filters (2 pack) and replacement valves.

To reply to some previous posts about mask fit, no matter what brand you have the edge of the filter needs to sit securely on your face such that when you take a deep, quick inspiration you feel the mask pucker in a bit. At least for Respro, the filters come in just one size and should just cup around the mouth/nose and force polluted air to travel through the filter. The mask comes in med and lg and the lg size mask should be adequate for even those of us with huge heads.

Another point that is worth mentioning briefly since nearly all posts are from guys is about facial hair. More than modest stubble prevents the filter from sealing where it needs to and allows polluted air to pass around the filter. This obviously defeats the purpose and was one of the reasons I held out from getting/using one before. Now I just want to be able to breathe better and still ride as hard as I want.

Kale, your pictures look really spectacular and I bet the trip was a lot of fun. How many people did you end up going with? You should join us for some rides around the city and outlying areas. We’re headed to Pixian this evening for a quick loop, leaving from Natooke at 8ish. There is another ride to Longquan on Sunday morning. Anyone interested can send me a PM.

Polo time has changed, location hasn’t. Now being held Saturday afternoon at 4p, still at Sichuan Province Gymnasium (四川省体育馆). Just bring yourself, a bike, and some interest to play or watch people swing mallets at a ball while riding a bike.

Just reminding everyone interested about polo tomorrow afternoon @ 5pm. See the first post for details.

If your curious about bicycle polo and want to give it a try, or just want to hang out an watch people on bicycles (and perhaps unicycle) swing mallets at a ball then come out and join us. Dinner likely to follow.

I suppose there is no reason why not. Have you played polo on a unicycle before? There is mild contact allowed, some mallet to mallet play, and a few other aspects of the game may be a slight disadvantage for the unicyclist when playing with two-wheeled friends. In any event, you are more than welcome to join us, riding circles around us, and show us how its done.
