Sorry to pounce on you Lino, use the edit function and make me look a fool (:

It has been exciting with so many shock results, having said that though it looks like all the big teams are going to creep over the line. With the exception of Spain, I don’t think there will be too many surprises in the final four of the tournament. I could be wrong though.

Belgium’s results haven’t been a shock, they have one of, if not the best team in the tournament man for man. What is surprising is the gutless, spiritless performance last night.

True that. Actually it also seems France has come back from the dead and with yesterdays victory Belgium has advanced to the semi finals, which is their biggest achievement since 1986 (and before that 1920?s).

I bet a lot of gamblers are pulling out their hair though :)

Belgium semi-finals?? If they win the group which it looks like they will, then they need to play probably Germany and then Argentina to reach the semis, oh yeah job done!

Loving the chill vibe. I find it a lot less repetitive than I do reggae. Wikipedia said Errol Thompson is the dude, though I don’t know if the genre has evolved since then.

King Tubby is the Godfather but yeah, Errol Thompson, Lee Perry. Augustus Pablo, Sly and Robbie, Burning spear all made it what it is.

A lot of the stuff today is heavier and slightly faster. Some of my favourites still producing are Gorgon sound, King Alpha and you should definitely check out Digid his Dub 2 Babylon album released this year is great.

No idea what to expect on Friday as FM3 do so much shit, maybe Andy has a better idea. I can’t wait though.

I’ve watched 9 out of 11 games so far and there hasn’t been a bad game yet. Even Argentina this morning which was shaping up to be dreadful was an excellent second half and an amazing goal from Messi. If you have even a passing interest in football and are not watching your a fool, this is shaping up to be one of the best world cups ever.

We all knew that this was going to be a tournament with lots of goals, it is rare that you get to the world cup and so many strikers are in excellent form. If you think about the attacking players in Europe, they have almost all had great seasons. There has been a shift in playing styles too, teams starting to attack more in Europe, the premier league was all about attack this season.

I hope it continues and I’m pretty confident it will.

I don’t own a mac so not sure this will help but I’ve been using thefirstrow.eu I’ve been using this for all 4 games and have got perfect English TV streams without a VPN.

If this doesn’t work then the website for the CCTV 5 stream is here you have to download an add on but its very quick and doesn’t come with any shit.

PPTV is not an option as they are not showing the games. They are showing people watching the TV and talking. It’s hilarious, check it out just for 5 minutes.

Only 2 days in and the it’s already better than the awful shit of 2010. Cracking games last night, hopefully officiating improves, the spain and Chile games weren’t badly reffed though. At least it gives us something to talk about.

The Leg and Whistle (an English bar) is the place to be for the 6am game tomorrow morning, England V Italy.

Agree with Ian, Leg and Whistle. Real football fans, English commentary no pumping pop music in the background.

Ha ha, I would actually love to go to a ‘messy clown club’ it sounds like a great night out. The pictures in my head look brilliant.

I don’t know why people are saying it’s a foreign thing, the here we go staff have a much harder time stopping the Chengdu hipster kids smoking weed in the open than the foreigners.

Neither of these bars were closed down because of drugs, if they were then they would have been raided first, like the old old xiong mao.

It was inevitable once all those offices started to fill up that the bars would be on the way out. I think both clubs will thrive in their new locations and hope they do. It’s a shame not to be able to just walk between them though.

By the way, the all night after party at the new here we go last Sunday was fucking brilliant!

    Hi Sophia,

the games are held at 华西坝 campus on 人民南路. If you enter the gate next to the subway station on the east side of 人民南路 keep walking straight until you see a cage on your left hand side with a football pitch and badminton court. If its after 12pm then you should see lots of foreigners playing there.

The games are on Saturdays, there are 3 games at 12pm, 1:30pm and 3pm.

There is a lot of cool stuff going on in Shanghai at the moment, there is now a weekly mandarin open mic comedy night as well as the English one. Many locals but also ex-pat comics get up. Many foreign comics who regularly gig in English have translated parts of their set for these nights. These nights are popular and Chinese language performers are growing.

Also there are more and more Chinese comics performing in English. The support act we are bringing down on May 17th is a Shanghai local who performs in English.

They don’t have any problems with censorship as they are not trying to reach a large audience or go on CCTV like Da Shan.

If by succeed you mean mass television audiences then no it can’t, but as a live entertainment form, comedy clubs can succeed and are succeeding in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi and other places. Hopefully Chengdu one day (:

The ambitions of many comics I meet are greatly different than that of Da Shan and Joe Wong.

These have been a great success so far as was the open mic this week. The Chengdu comedy train keeps rolling with two of Shanghai’s finest next Saturday. really looking forward to this one.

Thanks Charlie! Hopefully will have the flyer in the next couple of days, still waiting on stuff from Shanghai. I’ll definitely post it here when I have it.

The two main people involved are me (Rob) and Andrew (manager of the bookworm) he does all the booking and stuff and I help promote plus host the shows. An interview would be cool, to get more exposure would be fantastic. If you want to get in contact

There’s quite a few American comics coming over to do the China tour at the moment. Just this last two months there’s been Paul Ogata, Ruben Paul, Butch Bradley and Jimmy Shubert. All organized by kungfukomedy Shanghai, we get their regular comics to come to bookworm once a month.

When American comics come over they usually play Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing and Wuxi. All these places have comedy clubs with a regular scene. By getting expat comics from Shanghai and Beijing down here we are slowly getting the word out that Chengdu is good place to do a show. If we keep getting crowds then it won’t be long until Chengdu is a part of the regular comedy circuit.

Of course we still have to look into the fact that for big names like I mentioned above they usually charge 2-300 a ticket, a big gamble in a place like Chengdu, but if we have regular crowds we can put feelers out.

Next one is April 26th by the way, with KungFuKomedy founder Andy Curtain.
