Ye MingParticipant
One tip with the taxi, try to look for the shortest route on Google Maps and look for a nice road or junction you need to pass, something like 2nd ring road. Tell the taxi driver to take that road. Try to know the shortest route, or at least pretend to and tell the taxi driver. Give them a kind of feeling that you ‘know’ the city. I understand you’ve just arrived recently but if you work on it, the results can be seen quickly enough. Especially in your wallie.
Ye MingParticipantInteresting, never seen one, but from what ive heard of people who went to XiShaungbanna, its the best Chinese ‘kitchen’ around
Ye MingParticipantIn Shanghai 70% of the flats are sold to people who are repeated buyers or don’t even live there. High housing prices will become an obstacle for China’s urbanization and we know urbanization is an important driver for the future growth of China. The fundraising method used by the government for money is distorting for the economy. Because the government is profiting from the property market they really have an interest in prices going UP on the market. The prices going up benefits certain people and hurting other people. So it creates distortion in the economy that are not even related to economic accomplishments.
Ye MingParticipantWhat ive heard is that Chinese people, not necessarily investors but also rich people tend to put their money away in Real Estate. This because in China the stocks market is very vulnerable and saving accounts give a very low interest. Therefor prices rise and apartments get unoccupied leaving the lower class not affordable to buy a decent house. However its also the government who benefits alot from real estate.
To everyone: There has been a very good documentary made, at least in my eyes, about the Chinese Bubble for Dutch TV. Only the first minute is in Dutch ( introduction ) and after its only English and Chinese.
A description of what it is about:
In ‘the Chinese Bubble’ a construction worker, a car salesmand and a real estate tycoon (Feng Lun, CEO of Vantone) talk about their dreams and their believe in Chinas economic miracle. People with a very different positions on the economic ladder but all with the same ambition, getting ahead. Like archetypes of the developmen tstages of the Chinese economy they give a face for the public of the ‘miracle’ of chinese fast economic growth.
Also their will be Chinese economics talking, including Andy Xie. They see a ‘coming’ real-estate bubble and explain when and how this can explode. But they dont fear the long term consequences of this bubble. The explosion will hurt and require a reform, but the economic downfall will last short.
(should be something like that, translated from Dutch. Mind my english :p )
Ye MingParticipantHey, im sorry i cant help you but i was wondering why you want to leave SWUFE campus ? Its pretty cheap with food and stuff right ? Because im planning on a 1 year stay in Chengdu next year, at one of the universities, still not decided which one, so if you mind explaining it would at least be nice for me to know.
Good luck searching man !
Ye MingParticipantHaha the ‘toilet water’ works well for me aswell but not that long tho, and the smell is really strong, i dont like it :P. as far as flies are concerned i think you should keep your food covered and dont leave so much sweetened stuff open. If they keep coming in, show them your deadliest backhand/forehand with the electric tennisracket…
Ye MingParticipantYeah thats right, im on it with my phone now but I cant swith to normal view in safari, only when i type the url as https://www.chengduliving.com/forum but i cant acces the normal website through chengduliving.com it keeps forwarding to the mobile version, it would be cool if you can switch from mobile to regular view, so far havent found the option. Im looking forward to a mobile version of the forum!
Ye MingParticipantIve been told by locals at renminpark across the main entrance that behind those building that there is an alley to visit very old streets where people live. Ive never checked it out though cos I was in a hurry. If you go to the Chengdu Super Drug Store and than walk away from tianfu you’ll get there, rightside of jin he hotel.
Ye MingParticipantI just recently saw your message to me at another forum, but i would still like to contribute to the mixes. I will mail it to you asap.
Ye MingParticipantIs this next to the bank of china ? across chengdu huayuan ? nice offer !
Ye MingParticipantIn the west you have good housing around Chengdu HuaYuan ( Garden ).
Ye MingParticipantThere is an International Fellowship which is Protestant in Chengdu.
It meets close to the Da Shi Jie Jia La Fu (Big World Carrefour) but I don’t know the exact location or time. I think it might be at 10am.
Ye MingParticipantHmm oke, she wrote back that she didnt knew if churches had English service or translations. She recommended; 成都市中西顺城街 98号(Streetadress)成都市上翔堂(name of the church) and the Sunnyside church, which probably is a catholic church but I am not sure. Im neither sure if the first one is Catholic of Protestant aswell. You can try and call them;
028-86784598 = Sunnyside (成都市恩光堂)
028-6627560 = 成都市上翔堂 (Chengdu Shi Shang Xiang Tang)
Maybe you can ask your teacher if your Chinese isnt that advanced yet. I also have emailed a Catholic American friend, who lives in Chengdu, who might know it. Havent had a reaction yet. IF you are intrested I can give it to you. (The email adress)Try and use Googlemaps to locate these churches and how to get there 😀 Goodluck i am in a bit of a rush but I thought i’d write you because of the time differences,(im in Holland now)otherwise you would have read it tomorrow.
Ye MingParticipantNo, haha you know when you go to a chinese hairdresser, they always take out this hair thinning scissor, when they are almost done ?
Like this: http://bit.ly/cFmMH5
well yeah, we hardly use that I guess ? Atleast if we use that scissor its only for the hairpoints to make it pointy. But the chinese use that scissor to thin out your hair
Ye MingParticipantI always go to the hairdresser next to the Jinhe Hotel, on your left if your face is towards Jinhe. Its a pretty good hairdresser, which asks a good price, 25yuan, for washing (15min.) cutting and wash again. Just tell them you don’t want your hair being thinned out ! I hate it when they want to do that 😛
Ye MingParticipantIm not sure if that church is protestant, but i’ll ask my ganma (not grandma, its like godmother in a none religious way. My ganma is christian, ill ask her if she knows a international protestant church.
Shes btw not your teacher, her full name is xiao hongyin.
Ye MingParticipantFor as i know there is no such thing, there are a lot of churches in Chengdu but I think you can give it a try at 成都市恩光堂 (Chengdu shì ēn guāng táng, ‘ Sunnyside Church’. I dont know which campus your living, but i’m assuming the new one in Wenjiang ? Just make your way into the city its close to Chun Xi Lu ! Who is your Chinese Teacher ? My ‘ganma’ teaches Chinese at Xi Nan Cai Da, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics。 Her name is Ms. Xiao(肖)。
