Get in touch with Chengdu Animal Rescue as well – they need people to foster cats & dogs before finding them a permanent home & can put you in touch with animal shelters.

They have a wechat group too.

    Hey Nikki,

I can also suggest Coushsurfing meetings – there’s one on Tuesday evenings starting at 8pm at Savage/Wow bar on KeHuaBei Lu & I think the other one is still on, Thursday evening, from 8:30 at The Bookworm near NiJiaQiao Station. Check out the Couchsurfing website for more exact details.

kirs10 – I’m definitely interested – I have 2 cats and I will leave them for a short time alone but for longer periods I need someone to either live in my flat or to pop round to refresh their water & food. I am more than happy to do this in return & have done in the past!

A few of my Chinese colleagues went to her show on Sunday & they were really excited. When I saw them on Tuesday they didn’t mention it at all & so I asked how the show went. They were quite disappointed & said that she was only there for money & that it showed. She didn’t sing as many songs as when she was in Beijing & didn’t come back for an encore. I think they felt a bit used & that she definitely didn’t do her best for the show.

I go to the massage places Rick mentioned – they’re on 西御街 – xi yu jie  – I go to the one that is to the left of the other – they’ve been very good at sorting me out when I have serious back pain.

I’ve been in the process of changing schools so have applied for a new FEC & received it on Monday. I also wanted to leave China mid-July & talked to the PSB yesterday & they said that if I have a ticket booked (& I already had my FEC) & if I showed proof of my flight, I could apply for an earlier RP collection date. I handed in my documents today with my passport & they said I could collect it on the 10th July (the day before I fly they specified). Usually, it should take 15 working days but with a flight confirmation it ‘should’ be OK.

I spent 3 days there & flew. I had booked an early flight, but departed late due to fog or something – apparently that’s common (I think on the Jiuzhaigou side). At the airport, I found a driver to take me to Huanglong which only took a few hours to walk around & is closer to the airport.

I had planned to spend two days in the park at Jiuzhaigou but the driver convinced me to go to the grasslands to go horse riding. So, I spent 1 whole day in Jiuzhaigou park, using the bus to cut down on the time. It was too rushed though, longer is needed. I loved the grasslands, so didn’t mind so much rushing Jiuzhaigou. I do recommend Huanglong, if you can fit it in. I don’t think you would need to go in a tour group at any point, it’s beautiful nature – I went by myself & loved it – very peaceful!

I found some of my research on buses, taxis, prices & distances if it’s helpful.

    • Taxi from airport to Jiuzhaigou – 88 kms – 1.5 hours – 200 rmb
    • Airport shuttle to Jiuzhaigou = 45 rmb
    • Bus from Huanglong to Jiuzhaigou = 100 rmb
    • Taxi from airport to Huanglong – 43 kms – 1 hr = 100 rmb
    • Bus from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong – 3 hrs

    • Huanglong tickets = 200 RMB
    • Huanglong cable car = 80 RMB 1 way + 40 RMB down
    • Takes 4 hours approx
    • Jiuzhaigou tickets = 220 RMB
    • Jiuzhaigoup park bus 1 day = 80 RMB
    • Tibetan Cultural Show – 120-320 RMB

I’ve used my Union pay cards in the UK without any problems. I can’t remember off had, but think I entered 6 digits (if not, then I guess the first 4). Basically, I’ve had no issues using my Unionpay cards in the UK.

I did some part-time work for them last year & they were very good with me. I worked in the Zijing school & Nina was very helpful & professional. I got paid on time (early actually) & had no problems. I only worked there a month or so to make some extra money for my trip & to cover other teachers’ classes.

    Saw this on Gochengdoo

    Beware: Car show job scam

I was approached to help my friend find some models for the car show, however it looks like the client side on this job is a cheat and since I refused to work with them after finding some potential models for them they are still finding people to help them look for models at lower and lower pay.

The information from my friend is that this employer plans to promise to pay after the event and then disappear, so please be careful everyone!

Charlie – I’ve been helping Vikky after seeing her post on Couchsurfing. It took me awhile to find, but the university is called 四川外语学院成都学院 & the address in town is (I think) 四川省成都市高新西区银河东路, and there is another campus in Pixian.

Vikky hasn’t had much contact or help from the university, although they were meant to call her today. I suggested that she post here to see if anyone else knows about or has had any experience with this university & can offer her some advice.

Yes, Gary, it was a great evening listening to some beautiful music, a real treat, so thank you for the tickets!

The Sichuan Junior Paper Orchestra were super cute & I loved the designs on their ‘instruments’.

The pieces the Symphony Orchestra played were well known & great to hear & the soloists were impressive.

Jane, it was nice to meet you, hope your children enjoyed it as well!

    Thanks again Gary!

(I tried to add some photos but it didn’t work…)
