I think the best way to do this is on WeChat, there are groups for currency exchange. If you can’t find one and need an invite, you can add me on WeChat and I’ll send you an invite (my username is just9831charlie without the numbers)

I was coincidentally back in the UK when it hit. I had booked a flight back at the end of March but expecting to have to reschedule.

I came back to Chengdu on the 21st and by the 24th it was looking pretty bad, so I decided to leave for the time being. I’m monitoring the situation from elsewhere in Asia, waiting until it’s safe to return. Where I’m at I’ve been able to find surgical masks, disposable latex gloves, and goggles. Hand sanitizer seems to be totally unavailable. This stuff, especially masks, are in super short supply in China right now, so if anyone is returning to Chengdu, make sure you bring them with you.

I left also, I’m in Cambodia. Thank you for the well wishes. I’ll go ahead and make a virus thread on here, just in case anyone is seeking info in Chengdu. I am still in touch with friends there daily and waiting until it’s safe to return.

I mailed something in November and didn’t experience this. Right now mail and customs is in a state of chaos though with the virus, so your results may vary. Sorry for the late reply.

The best thing for finding places in Chengdu is Chinese language services in general. It can be tough to navigate those if you don’t read or speak Chinese, but I would see if your employer can help you out. They are usually in a good position to aid people like yourself in finding accommodation, as they are pretty much always dealing with people coming and going. Good luck!

Nice, looks really cool. Over the last few years it’s nice to see that a few record shops have opened around town. The other one I’ve been to recently is The Hang at Taikoo Li.

Although this is an unusual request, if anyone is sketched out by this I figured I’d add that I’ve known Thurm for many years and he is trustworthy.

If you want to try to upload that image again, it needs to be under 1mb in size

Try calling Global Doctors at the number which is posted above, or by adding it on WeChat.

Most of the English schools in the city are probably dodgy, but based on what I know (just having interacted with many teachers, I am not one) I would check out English First (EF) in the private space and Sichuan University in the government-run sector.

Have you tried looking bars or clubs which cater to expats? Those will often hire foreigners who can speak some English. Note that this will probably not be totally legal. Good luck

If you’re new to Chengdu you might want to live with expats, unless you really want to dive in to China, and the best place for arranging that is probably in a WeChat group. I’m not in a housing group but I’m sure those exist. Good luck!

There are so many plastic/cosmetic surgery places in Chengdu it’s insane. If you can read Chinese there is definitely a ton of information and reviews available on this on sites like Baidu. I would be surprised if many foreigners are getting this done in Chengdu, but you never know. Good luck
