A friend who lives there told me they have plans to construct a large new greenhouse market. Who knows if that’s true though, or upon what timeline it will happen. He still enjoys living there but says it’s not the same as it was.
CharlieKeymasterI don’t have the address but I visited the Chengdu tax office a few years ago when making a bank transfer to repatriate funds. It was in the South, around the high tech zone. Hopefully this is of some help to you, good luck.

CharlieKeymasterThat’s helpful confirmation to have. I have gotten an MRI once and my girlfriend got one another time, at separate hospitals, but in both cases we were given x-rays in hard copy.

The quality of the school, and of the degree in particular, is not very good. In general unless you have a degree from one of China’s top universities (Tsinghua, Peking University) in a field in which they have a good program (engineering, Chinese language), a Chinese degree is pretty useless outside of China. Useless might be a strong word to use, but it’s not worth that much if you are seeking to use that in the western world. If you get a scholarship it might be worth considering. Hope this helps you out.
CharlieKeymasterI assume you are talking about 青年火锅 – they have many locations in Chengdu, I would just search for them on Baidu or Dianping.
CharlieKeymasterDali has gone back to being a sleep, seasonal tourist village from what I can tell. Chengdu is a bustling mega-city, there is no shortage of potential customers or patrons.
CharlieKeymasterWe’re able to run your studio successfully in Shenyang? If so I think you can do it in Chengdu, since Chengdu is a bigger city and has much more of a reputation as a city of music and creative culture. Ordinarily for a foreigner I’d say it’s very risky because managing a business as a foreigner in China is a complicated challenge (we have a podcast episode on this subject).
Hopefully you gained some useful experience and insight in running your studio in Shenyang and can bring that to Chengdu! Good luck.
CharlieKeymasterHello,
- Taobao/JD is probably the best place to get this stuff. Alternatively you can go to somewhere like Metro, which has a huge selection of imported products, but everyone seems to be shopping and ordering online now because it’s so convenient.
- Very easy to find online
- The one which I’ve been to multiple times (which I trust) is on 玉林南路. I’m not sure of the name but it’s not a huge street and you should have no problem finding it there, if you are looking for a place to go. In general, the quality of care at these sort of pet hospitals is pretty high in Chengdu, based on my observation.
- I would expect no problems as long as you have a suitable transport container for your cat
Good luck!
CharlieKeymasterNice. Those are some great deals.
CharlieKeymasterCan you post photos/prices? Without those it’s a little hard to know if a prospective buyer is interested.
CharlieKeymasterYou might want to consider buying these items used and then selling them when you go. If you can read Chinese, the 闲鱼 app would be the place to check. You could probably buy these in a day and sell within a day on there also.
CharlieKeymasterBumping this ancient thread for historical purposes. When this thread was created, a single bitcoin was around $35 USD and now it is just around $8,000 USD.
At the end of 2017 we published a podcast on the subject of bitcoin, just before it became really difficult to get in China: Podcast #25: Moving Money Out of China & Bitcoin. What a wild ride it has been for bitcoin.
CharlieKeymasterThere used to be an indoor rock climbing place here which was popular, but apparently it closed: Survivor Indoor Rock Climbing Gym. It would be cool to find another place like that. Although it’s not rock climbing, there are a few indoor gymnastics gyms here, which are basically filled with trampolines. They are really good, it is good exercise.
There are some WeChat groups for the things you mentioned which I can invite you to, I’ll add you on WeChat. Welcome to Chengdu.
CharlieKeymasterThose are some beautiful photos, thanks for sharing them. To anyone living in Chengdu: definitely take the time to visit Western Sichuan.
How embarrassing! There’s an error when I upload the pictures.
The error is due to uploading photos which are over 1mb in size, that is the maximum image size allowed. Edit photos so they are smaller before uploading them. If you have any other problems, feel free to send me a PM through the forum and I’ll help you out 🙂
CharlieKeymasterHi, I found an apartment I like. But the house manager requires me to either call or make an appointment. I am in the US now, I don’t speak Chinese and don’t have a Chinese phone number. Is it a good idea to find a third party who can communicate with two sides about the renting and help me with the paper work? If yes, then which company would you recommend and around how much will that service cost? Thanks,
Do you not have any friends or contacts in Chengdu that can help? Most people probably get someone they know or their employer to help with something like this.
Learn the language before you come, why yall white honkey always think people at other countries speak your English ?
A lot of people don’t learn Chinese before they come to China, that is completely normal. And how can you possibly know his race? That’s an ignorant thing to say to a stranger.
CharlieKeymasterIt’s great that this is available in Chengdu!
CharlieKeymasterI’m curious about the cost, but this sounds cool. I’ll contact you via WeChat.
CharlieKeymasterHi,
- Internet is easy enough to set up, although whichever apartment you move into will likely have it already established, the bill will just move to you.
- If you use common sense you’ll likely be fine with food safety.
- You can survive in Chengdu without speaking Chinese for sure. You should be fine for a few months, but learning even a few sentences in Chinese will make everything much easier for you.
Good luck!
CharlieKeymasterBe careful!
