I saw the thread title and my heart jumped. 🙁
Good thing I’m on a VPN. They just updated Youtube to a new design – it’s looking good. Hopefully it’ll get unblocked in China sometime this decade.
CharlieKeymasterQuote:I think the DMAX is awful, darkness and bad color balance. The cinema in 万达广场 is better than it.I really must check out the theater at 万达广场, then! I’m surprised you say that though, I’ve been to IMAX theaters in DC and NYC and thought that DMAX was pretty impressive for a daoban-Chinese IMAX. I saw Kung Fu Panda, Terminator 3, and Avatar on that screen.
CharlieKeymasterVery cool. How much do you want for these?
CharlieKeymasterHow big was the screen – was it really cool?
I saw Avatar at 白联天府 on 2nd Ring Road & 科华北路 – the “DMAX” screen there is outstanding. The second time I saw it I arrived a few minutes late and ending up sitting in the front row. It was a blast.
CharlieKeymasterI have a solid pro who I’ve been going to for a few years, he’s a doctor who does massage and acupuncture but he’s an esteemed traditional physician from what I hear. His number is 13258324850 and he’s located in Zong Bei. If he can’t treat you directly you can go there for a 25 yuan massage and get concrete information from him. Hope this helps-
CharlieKeymasterFor those who aren’t clear, what is a hash? Is that where you guys take a bus to the country side and jog around, enjoying the scenery? I noticed from your site that other cities have similar organizations, like a hash network? Am I saying that correctly? hah
CharlieKeymasterNice photos Zhaowei! Looks like you had some great weather on that day. I added you as a friend on 人人网 🙂
CharlieKeymasterI was super close to seeing Alice in Wonderland a few weeks ago when I was in Hong Kong but it ended up working out that a group of friends went and me and one other guy didn’t go. Afterwards, they told me that it was good but I didn’t miss anything too special. I saw Avatar in 3D (twice, actually) and absolutely loved it. I was close to seeing it a third time, to be honest, because I felt that the movie theater experience for that particular film adds so much to its impact.
Avatar is coming out on DVD very soon, but I can’t imagine that it’ll be anything like it was in the theater. I had high expectations and it still blew me away.
How much longer do you think Alice is playing in 3D? I’m seriously considering checking it out.
CharlieKeymasterWelcome to the forum Edward. Good luck with your school 🙂
CharlieKeymasterQuote:I just got a new 3rd generation itouch, will i be able to unlock it in Chengdu? I hear there is no software for unlocking the newest generation itouch yet.I’m pretty sure you can unlock that! See if this guide doesn’t help: http://tinyurl.com/yfou5oo
I had a second-gen iPod Touch jailbroken with redsn0w, it was a pretty straight forward process that took about a half an hour. Learning how everything works with Cydia takes a bit of time, but it’s not too bad. The biggest problem for me was that when I jailbroke my Touch it became unstable and programs would frequently crash. Give it a shot and see if your mileage doesn’t vary, though.
CharlieKeymasterQuote:You Qian DaddyHeard it a million times, but I still love that track.
CharlieKeymasterQuote:hey, man, next Saturday will have a sakura festival near chengdu. Qing bai jiangGreat, where is that? I’ve heard of Qing Bai Jiang…
CharlieKeymasterAt least one person that I know reads this has gotten an iPhone unlocked in Chengdu at 数码广场. I’ll refer him here-
CharlieKeymasterSeems like there’s great weather every day recently – I’ll plan to run around the city next Saturday taking photos. Anyone who wants to join is welcome to!
To anyone using a Canon camera, maybe we can exchange lenses – I’d like to try something new.
CharlieKeymasterAwesome. Is there a bulk discount? Like, if you buy 12 or 24 bottles, etc?
CharlieKeymasterAnother great day! This is outstanding.
Lots of people are already playing Xiangqi in the street. Not long before old men all start breaking out the wife beaters.
CharlieKeymasterAhh yes, the 18-55mm kit lens. I still have my first dSLR, a Canon 300D – that also came with the 18-55.
Are you in Chengdu?
CharlieKeymasterI use two flashcard apps called “Chinese Flashcards” and “Chinese Flashcards II” which are pretty great. They both cost $5 I believe, but they’re really good. The first one is HSK characters and the second is HSK words and short phrases. It’s an intelligently-spaced algorithm, a la Anki, so it tests you most on the characters that you’re weakest at.
I’ve tried out a lot of other flashcard apps, the problem is usually that the flashcard interface sucks, or the wordlist is too short or cannot be changed.
The Nciku app is good because it provides a lot of example sentences, which nothing else I’ve seen does. For $5 it comes up a little short considering it doesn’t even have a wordlist or flashcard feature, but I’m hopeful that they bring it up to the Nciku.com level of quality.
CharlieKeymasterWow, do you have any photos of this place? At 10,000 yuan it must be ridiculously luxurious.
CharlieKeymasterI noticed that recently, that brick-laden alleyway on Ni Jia Qiao Road has changed a lot. I think the buildings to the left have finally been torn down (after having 拆 written on them for years!), bathing that alley in sunlight. It looks much less seedy now that it isn’t all dark down there. I used to remember that alley being like a holdout of old Chengdu in a district that has seen a whirlwind of development over the last ten years. Just down the block is the new subway station and Western Tower. I wonder how much longer that spot can last.
