    @Rick in China

Thanks for providing the link. On Taobao you indeed can buy the 4S for very little money. However, I noticed that most of them are U.S. versions on which the 3G won’t work here. Also often they are 16GB instead of 64GB. That doesn’t change the fact though that I probably won’t be able to get €250 for it here so I will just sell it in Holland as in 2 weeks I’ll be off for a month. Should be plenty of time to get it sold there with the offers I already have.

    Thanks for the feedback though!

I did some more research and 2500 RMB seems too high indeed. I’m just gonna sell it in Holland then as the 2nd hand market there is more developed than here. I can easily sell it there for €250 – €275 as I already received several offers on my ad there. I just wanted to check whether I could get more here since iPhones are often more expensive here than in the Netherlands.

Wow that is extremely cheap. I am don’t know what these phones sell for here but I checked prices for a 64GB on a 2nd hand Dutch website and based my price on what they ask there.
Feel free to place bids though.

I have contacted these guys and it seems to be that they are able to get an multiple entry F visa for a year but only with max 90 days of each stay. Costs 7000 RMB!!!

If you want 6 months with 0 entry’s and stay 180 days it will costs 6500 RMB and you will have to fly to Harbin according to them…..

Seems fucking expensive just for a visa..

I’m quite sure there will be found some ways soon to still get your visa somehow but it will take time for the visa agents to find out how to do it.

For now I think it’s best to sit back and wait a bit (if you can).

Do you know anyone who can make custom systems by the way? For clients to upload files, look at their history through an account, pay and a production studio uploading files back to the client?

    Thanks Charlie,

My partner already chose a logo designer and I got caught up in some other things. Sorry I didn’t reply you anymore.

Thanks for your input on this and the matter.

    Cheers!

These answers don’t really answer my question to be honest. I asked what the advantages are from wordpress or drupal template websites over a custom system and visa versa.

Also I hope that someone can bring me in contact with some developers here that work with custom CMS’s and wordpress and who can also develop customised systems such as client portals etc.

Looking forward to hear some input on that.

I know Atkins and Aedas both have offices here. Another one is a singaporean firm called Cendes.

There are also a bunch of smaller firms , i.e. Kam’s firm mentioned above and there are quite a few Spanish architects such as “The Clover”.

I have contacts in most of the above firms so if you want to get some contact details please let me know.

Let’s not be naive here, everybody knew long before this article what goes on in these KTV’s where they have “hostesses”. If you have done a bit of business in China you have ended up in one of these places one time or another. I have seen several times what goes on when you go there with Chinese business men and it’s not just drinking and singing. Anyone who believes that should come out of his habit of watching the Teletubbies all evening and come out to the real world.

In my opinion the difference between these hostesses and prostitutes is that these KTV’s girls can choose whether to go home with someone or not and a hooker will go home with anyone who pays.

The second pic is not a pic of the actual scooter but of a similar one as I have just confirmed with Tony. I will help him to make some good real pics of it this afternoon. He doesn’t have a lot of sales experience so thought it was OK to post a pic of a similar bike.

As presentation is everything with selling something I will help him to make some decent pics of it as the picture above doesn’t do the actual bike justice 😀

I had a very similar situation about 6 months ago while driving on my motorbike with my girlfriend on the back of the scooter. We drove in front of the hotel on Ren Min Nan Lu, about 20 meters from the Bookworm, when we suddenly saw a guy sprinting after a bypassing high school girl. Initially I thought they were together and that he was trying to jump on the back of her bike until I noticed she was not aware of him chasing her. Still not realizing the actual situation I said to my girl “Look at that guy, he is behaving quite odd” and that was exactly the moment when the guy was catching up with the girl and was reaching for the girl’s iPod earphone cable. I immediately knew that this was not her friend but a thief trying to steal the girl’s iPod so instinctively I started to shout at him and the thief looked at me full of hatred but slightly startled so he couldn’t catch up with the girl as was still cycling further as she didn’t hear my shout nor noticed he whole situation happening behind her. I quickly accelerated to catch up with the girl and my gf pointed out the situation to her. I was looking back whether the guy was following us or not but I didn’t spot him anymore so I drove off.

Afterwards my girlfriend said exactly what Chris’ girlfriend said and that I shouldn’t do that because thieves are dangerous and carry knives and are never alone in this kind of situations.

She is originally from Guangzhou and heard several cases there where foreign guys bust thieves and immediately get stabbed by either the thief himself or one of his buddies in order to scare off any other person who has the thought of intervening.

As Ouk mentioned already, this might not be the case in Chengdu (yet) as the thieves are mostly unorganized petty thieves but what if you catch the “wrong” one that does carry a knife?

I would probably still do exactly the same when I would witness something like this again as it is something we do instinctively but I know out of experience that most Chinese would not do the same for you when they see something happening to you.

Not just with pickpocketing but also when there is a fight or traffic accident. A lot of them will watch but 99% will not intervene or help.

Unfortunately the “harmonious society” is more a good sounding propaganda slogan than an actual society characteristic…

Go to Tony & Guy in the Yanlord building. They are a worldwide famous hair salon chain and they do the best foreign haircuts in Chengdu. They have people who speak english and have nice products as well that they use.

Its on the expensive side but vanity comes with a price.

Expect to pay around 180 rmb for the cheapest cut or 280 rmb for the more senior stylists.
