Since you don’t have an open bank account (unless you want to transfer it to mine.) in China, you should open a bank account with branches in both Chengdu and where you’re at – a multicurrency account. You can transfer between the USD<>RMB from over here, and access as you wish.

Tried this recently.  Doesn’t work out like that.  They’ve recently made changes to the requirements for opening a multi-currency account including your state tax certification (not provincial) and documentation as well as your proof of employment.  Even then they funnel these transfers through BoC.  Or so I was told by the stunning ladies at two separate branches of the bank.

Awesome time.  Real tough race.  Impossibly hot.  Out of about 60 starts, not even 10 finished the race in its entirety.  Would race it again.

    Check out a few photos!

Also got of Go Pro footage and hope to put together a video soon enough!

I believe myself and one other are going.  There’s a number of Chengdu kids that are in on it as well and any amount of folks flying in from all over.

I plan to take a GoPro for footage and see about getting as many photos as possible.  The map is out floating around Weibo.  I’ll post it up later.

Anyone able to provide the link for this video?  Can view the embedded and blocked out when I use my proxy.

Looking forward to this.  Taking a bike on the bullet train is rather straightforward.  You just take the front wheel off and make sure to stow it where the attendants ask.

If anyone wants to join us and is curious about heading over in a group, hit us up at Natooke.  The more the merrier!

Nice, glad someone got video! That chopper bicycle at 7 seconds in… hahaha

That’s Elliot!  He just sort of showed up and was along for the ride.  Needless to say we gave him a prize for finishing the race (25 km!) on the most difficult to ride bike.

    1) Definitely practice spaces available and for cheap.  Not sure on specifics however.

    2) Jah Bar does a jam night.  Other places?  There’s a place called Gu Bar (Drum Bar) that has a variety of drums available.  Don’t know how regularly they play though.

    4) Find other musicians.  They’re around and lurk at places like Jah Bar, Machu Picchu and Lantown. They’ll be able to point you in the right direction.

    5) People here make a living playing in groups and doing gigs, both white monkey and not.

    6) Near the Sichuan music uni there’s a number of shops that sell all sorts of musical equipment.  That would be the spot to check.

This is going to be a blast.  I’m glad I’m part of the organizing team.  It means I have to be there!

Also, there is a registration limit of 100 people.  So don’t sit on the fence!  Also, granted this means you have at least a 1/100 (but more likely greater chance) to win that frame!

    @thurm

That’s a great idea.  Your suggestion especially fits Patrick’s description of “an emerging micro-neighborhood…that’s growing a lot right now with new hotels, restaurants, bars, museums, galleries, etc.”

I’ve even heard that Aurora has become a growing hotspot, with its free coffee the epicenter. It now attracts people, not for teeth-cleaning, but rather to it’s relatively new draw as a developing cultural center and it’s involvement in the organization of a countless array of community activities and events.

Or maybe you just clean teeth?  I don’t know.  I’ve never been.

    @Ian

U37 is a nice spot.  Bit tucked away.  Decent cafe, UID.  A little kitschy though.  It has that uber rich connected developer feel more than something natural and self-progressing.  Like a smaller, better-located version of East Music Park.

    Oh, hey there Patrick.

Downtown near city center is probably worth writing about.  Centrally located and a lot is being brought into the area, including the newly opened IFS with the giant geometric panda, shops regularly opening up (and closing) and it’s near(er) to other areas that have attractions like the TV tower, and that street near Hongxi Lu that they’re developing that houses Dragonfly.

Not to mention things that will be opening up, including any iteration of luxury stores, malls, jade jewelry stores, etc.  Swire, a 5 star hotel is opening up there too and looks as though it’s going to have an incredible layout and offer some neat services for those that have a little better padded pockets.

Plus both of Chengdu’s metro lines are in the vicinity!

We look forward to giving this presentation!  Hopefully we have a few tips and pointers for those out there that have a good idea they’re hoping to bring into reality.

That and you’ll get to see a couple of cool designs we’ve cooked up.  Well, at least we think they’re cool.

Even if you’re not so into bikes you might find what we do interesting, especially if you are curious what it’s like working in a Chinese business environment.

Look forward to seeing you there!

With a user name like irlmonet, she’s just got to be the real thing!

I have never asked anyone for assistance on the net, therefore your item number 5 isn’t correct.

In the age of the internet, proof and credibility are hard to come by.  And most people are aware that in making claims they very much so need to be supported by substantial evidence.  It’s your word against a number of highly cautious people.

You’re anonymous.  So how is it that regulars in this forum, people that in fact live and work in a community and on many levels know each other beyond the white curtain that is the internet, are to come to trust you?

My thoughts on the matter.  If you need to borrow money, do it via more direct venues.  If that baby’s teeth are hurting, then ask friends, or friends of friends or friends of friends of friends of Santa Claus.  Hell, anything but latching onto a thread, that if you’d quite frankly read, would give you ample enough answer to your request.

No, you will not be able to borrow money, because this thread is a call-out of multiple scammers.  Not a shark?  Then don’t swim with them.

    Good luck!

I had a friend point remark on this video.  He was mostly curious if it’s true that white people are treated like celebrities for no reason.

Watched it and a few days later Ellen popped by the shop on a poster run.  Had a chat with her about it.

Seemed a lot like the program itself was walking toeing the line between being harshly critical and providing positive feedback on mainland Chinese development.  Couldn’t figure it out.

Are these guys in the northwest corner in a little square area?  I’m pretty sure I’ve used them before.

Most recently to get my screen sorted out — I’d dropped it and the the connector became detached cutting out the screen.  10 minutes and 40元.  Couldn’t complain.
