SanCha lake, about an hours drive south, is really nice. A massive lake with a bunch of islands that are prime camping spots. Just drive up to one of the docks, tell the boat guys you want an island to yourself and he’ll take you to one. Be sure to get his phone number so you can call him to pick you up when you’re ready to come home. Cars can’t fit on the boat but motorcycles can.

Sounds great! I’m thinking of taking a motorcycle trip up there next month. Any other places of interest in that area aside from the temple and village?

I tried to resist. I lasted 2 days 🙁 I don’t want to discuss the episodes on here because spoilers. I’m still going to watch them in HD at The Clubhouse though. I don’t mind watching episodes a few times to try and catch something I missed first time round. If you’re interested in chatting about the leaked episodes then head on over to http://www.reddit.com/r/piratesofthrones though beware, those folks might be talking about book spoilers too. 5ish weeks before a new episode…

    And now my watch begins.

:scanning Chengdu Living forum: :oh! Mexican cuisine! I love Mexican food! *click*: :spends next 5 hours listening to GoT fan theories:

Haha fair point. To contribute: I’m a regular customer at Ryan’s Mexican Cuisine. I eat there a couple of times a week. Great food in a convenient location. IMO the prices are very reasonable and the menu is slowly expanding, i think they just added quesadillas. Though my personal fave will always be the bean tacos with a side of spanish rice.

I don’t want to spoil anything but my friend Christian read the books and he said a major character might die this season.

I can’t tell if you’re being facetious :D Several major characters will die, it has been mentioned in several press events. The great thing is the books/movie will also diverge the most this season so book readers wont have as much of a precognition of who dies or when.. this dude spends SO much time doing analysis, and making videos, that if you’re a truly diehard fan and don’t have time to do the analysis yourself, but are interested, can learn a lot by watching his 10min-ish vids: <iframe src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLOIeYdZ3QczxGuSDE8NtOuthqbKFChC0q&#8221; width=”500″ height=”281″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=””></iframe>

I second Ricks suggestion of the Emergency Awesome youtube channel. Very informative and he does a good job of spoiler warnings so you can watch his vids in relative safety.

Offer is quite attractive, though there is nothing much within 100KM radius

Different strokes for different folks. If you’ve got your own vehicle then you can find beautiful places a half an hour drive from the city.

I flew Return Chengdu to London direct on British Airways. Was great. It’s a new route for BA so the plane was empty. Everyone on board had an entire row to themselves :D Flight departure/arrival times are really convenient too. 5-6k return. Better paying the extra thousand to fly direct imo. Flight time is about 10 hours. Highly recommended.

5-6k return, really? I went to the UK in July and they were quoting 9k. I ended up flying with Etihad. Chengdu – Abu Dhabi – Manchester for about 6800.

The Chengdu – Abu Dhabi flight was great. Would definitely recommend it.

Pretty sure it was around that price. Although my memory is little hazy, could have been closer to 7. But it was definitely nowhere near 8. I did book it a couple of months in advance though, maybe that helped with the lower price.

Oh, and if you really need gas you can tell the attendant that your bike is new. There is a 30 day grace period after you buy a vehicle in Ch!na in which you’re allowed to ride around un-plated. “I just bought it, i collect the plates and paper work next week…”

No chance of that with my bike, it has been in a few ‘scrapes’ haha

Never had any problems with the gas filling but I’ve noticed a lot more police stops outsisde the 3rd ring road recently.

New doesn’t have to be out of the factory new, can also be just bought it from some fella on 58.com new

I just returned to Chengdu after a month motorcycle tour of Sichuan and Yunnan and can confirm that this problem is spreading. Luckily i had the plates so it wasn’t a problem, but they wanted to take my blue book and write the information down, to which i replied with a ting bu dong and they filled me up. A friend who wasn’t plated up had his gas filled by an attendant who was laughing and talking about how he shouldn’t be filling up unplated bikes! This happened in the countryside, not in a city. So i imagine the rules are a little bit more enforced in a city.
In Chengdu some gas stations will enforce this rule and some don’t give a shit. A good idea is to just be friendly and crack a joke or two with the attendants everytime you go to your local gas station. Build a nice relationship and they’re more likely to flout the silly rules imposed by the traff!c pol!ce. (I imagine the the Managers of the Gas stations are not too happy about turning away paying customers!!!) Don’t stand there and kick up a fuss, just move to the next one. Gas stations seem to be in clusters of two or three in Ch!na.

That’s weird. They let you fill up a gas container, so it’s weird they’d require plates for your bike. I wonder what they’d say if you brought a gas container while on your bike, filled it up, then poured it into your bike…

I’d love to see someone do this. Even use the communal gas kettle 🙂 Great idea!
Having said that, the further towards Teebet you get the more difficult Gas buying becomes, ESPECIALLY in cannisters because, well, those spiritual, robed folk sometimes have a penchant for pyrotechnics.
