MelinaParticipantQuote:Sascha posted this on Facebook today, I found it very surprising: Entire Planet Supports Obama, Except China
I prefer the BBC version, where it’s everyone except Pakistan who prefers Obama. Makes more sense too.
MelinaParticipantThere is an “English-language” (and I use the term reservedly) magazine called Hello Chengdu that has ads soliciting clothing donations for local orphanages. Maybe they were asking for food too. I don’t know where to get the magazine though. I only picked it up once (which was more than enough) at Kaffe Stugan.
MelinaParticipantQuote:Hey everyone,I have 2bedrooms for renting which close to Shangri-la…nice decoration..114 square meters only cost for 5500RMB..IF you like to go to bar street at Lan kwai fong ..the apartment will be your best choice…only 5 minutes to walk there…anyhow,if you need to help …pls feel free to contact me..Any other photos?
MelinaParticipantApart from downloads taking a million times longer than I’m used to, no real problems here either.
MelinaParticipantQuote:i have never seen these cards anywhere here or in hk. why not have a friend abroad purchase say a $15 or $25 card and text the passkey to you? Thanks Les. I think I’ll be off to Tokyo next month so I guess I’ll just stock up while I’m there then.
MelinaParticipantIf you’re in the Yulin area, I saw a place yesterday under/next-door to the He Ri Jun Hotel on Renminnan Road, near the corner of Nijiaqiao. Didn’t look like it would be super cheap though.
MelinaParticipantThanks Charlie. Yeah, whenever I walk past a place that seems to be selling genuine Apple products I always pop in and ask but no joy so far.
I was kind of hoping for a specific recommendation from someone who has actually purchased the real deal so if anyone out there has any info it would be much appreciated!
MelinaParticipantHehe! Yeah, that’s the kind of massage that’s very easy to find in Chengdu. Just google “chengdu massage” and you get pages and pages of it. So if that’s what the OP wanted, I don’t think he would bother posting a query on this forum… I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, anyway : )
MelinaParticipant@AKK, I don’t have the exact address but I found their page on the Galleria shopping mall website for you:
http://www.gtcgalleria.com/cn/brand/healthbeauty-spa/
I think Galleria is called (or near?) “Kaidan” or something in Chinese(?) Anyway, it’s right near Ikea on Shenghe 1st Road.
I can’t remember the prices for everything because there are lots of options but there’s a phone number on the webpage you can call. (They don’t speak English though, as far as I can tell.)
We usually get a one-hour full-body massage plus something else. Full price for the one-hour full-body is around 500 RMB and the something else is about half that, if memory serves.
What we did though was became “members” by handing over 5000 RMB, which then becomes our store credit that we can use on anything, anytime and gets us a 50% discount on everything. It’s a bit to fork over up front, but we got one membership to share between the two of us and have been going almost every week. No regrets so far : )
And this may or may not be the company website:
http://www.siyanli.net.cn:8000/blog/index1.php
Hope this helps!
Oh, and they do a little bit of the twisting and turning stuff but I guess not to the extent of Thai massage, although it wouldn’t surprise me if they have Thai massage as one of their options…
MelinaParticipantHmm. I could have sworn Thai massage was also an oil-type massage. Feel free to move my earlier post to another topic…
MelinaParticipantI don’t know if it’s Thai massage exactly but the place we go for our awesome weekly oil massage is called Siyanli in the Galleria shopping mall. I guess it’s a bit pricey by local standards but we get a one-hour full body massage for around 250 RMB. (But this is a 50% discount off normal prices, which you have to become a member to get. If you’re interested, I can give you more info on this.)
It’s pretty swanky, with low-key surroundings and a quiet atmosphere. I think the rooms are all two-bed–some with a bath as well as a shower–so it’s nice to go with your partner or a friend (if the friendship can handle a bit of nakedness). And the massages are actually enjoyable. I don’t know what the deal is hereabouts, but pretty much all the Chinese massages I got in Taiwan were way too painful to be anywhere near relaxing.
And they have lots of options: head, shoulders, feet, facials, etc.
Like I said, it’s gonna be more expensive than the blind massage dudes, but I’m still comparing everything to Tokyo prices and I think what we get is probably worth about US$200 in any hotel/spa in Japan or the Western world. So for me it’s awesome value.
MelinaParticipantThanks guys! Actually it’s for my girlfriend and we already get weekly massages but I think her back problems call for some serious expertise and preferably foreign training.
@JerryS, do you have the name of the place on Yongfeng Road?
@Charlie, thanks for the link. Seems like she might be the only foreign-trained practitioner in town. We’ll check her out and report back for everyone else’s future reference.
MelinaParticipantOh, and I guess I should say I have an unneeded US/Chinese MacBook spacebar lying about that I bought before I realized that they were different sizes… Be happy to pass it along to someone in need.
MelinaParticipantThis is a super long shot, but I also need a spacebar key for a white 13-inch MacBook. Has to be from a machine with a Japanese or possibly Korean keyboard layout though, as the spacebar key is a bit shorter (65 mm) than on the US/Chinese MacBooks.
Anyone have an old Japanese MacBook lying around busted? Will pay a good price! And will also consider a black key!
Cheers.
MelinaParticipantQuote:there don’t seem to be many online platforms for the exchange of second hand things. Thanks for the reply, Charlie.
MelinaParticipantQuote:I do not know of a second hand swap meet site in Chengdu – Chinese aren’t that down with second hand stuff, unless it’s baby clothes or cars, but maybe there is a site out there. Thanks for replying, Sascha. I thought it might be a long shot…
MelinaParticipantDoes anyone know of any Chinese-language classifieds where punters buy and sell secondhand goods in Chengdu?
MelinaParticipantHi, I just moved here a month ago. I’m looking to furnish my apartment but not sure if I will move to another place soon so I don’t want to spend a lot on stuff I might not need later on.
If anyone has any of the following for free or cheap, I might be able to take it off your hands:
– full-length standing mirror
– blender
– small electric heater
– kitchen rubbish bin
– adjustable desk chair
Cheers!
