That’s probably the nicest, warmest apartment that has ever been posted on here. Cleanliness, good lighting and some plants go a long way. Nice 🙂

Thanks both. Coincidentally I had a Skypecall with someone from Pacific Prime just a few days ago and was very pleased with their helpfulness. Looks like I’ll be signing up for a deal with AXA.

I ordered a 2nd Gen from the JD link Charlie posted a few replies above on Sunday, late night. They ship from Beijing and it arrived Wednesday.

The Mi website itself didn’t allow me to click Chengdu though. The order button went grey when I selected that city.

Quick question. How does the auto mode actually work? To me it seems like it just stays on the exact same fan speed the entire time, regardless of air quality…?

Is air even at all healthier inside than outside?

Thanks Charlie, helpful start. I’m hoping to bump into a place (lab/hospital) where you can just tick off the boxes of the stuff you’d like to get checked – and then pay a certain fee per item. Because 800RMB several times a year sounds like a whole lot for the handful of things I’d like to monitor.

Thailand has been treating me well, almost the entire year I peaked towards settings some big PRs for me. Tipped off at 480 deadlift and 380 squat 1RMs late 2015. Although I’ve lost quite some strength since then already. I’ll be back in town soon, curious to feel what squatting in a Respro mask is like.

Also started reading the Four Hour Body. Feeling stupid for laughing with it a few years ago, it’s actually a very interesting read. Not everything in it is for me, but definitely some stuff in there I’d like to experiment with.

I’m talking about weighted backsquats Chris, not toiletsquats.

By the way Charlie, it might be a bit of a boring task but it could be very useful to write an article on these kind of questions, or build some sort of FAQ around it with a collection of the best answers around on the forum. Could be a popular page for newbies. And if you update if every X years, it would be interesting to see how it evolves over time.

    Hi Han,

    here’s my two cents:

    1) Obviously this also depends on the location, but generally for (non high-level) expats I believe 2000/month to be on the cheaper side, 3k/mo mediocre, and 4k+ expensive for a 1BR apartment. If you want to cut costs, roommates are a good solution.

    2) Hard to say, we don’t know how much you eat, what you like buying, and how much crave you’ll have for import goods. If you live SOLELY off vegetables, rice and chicken, it could be ridiculously cheap. Think 30RMB/day for groceries. But probably you’ll want variety and a now and then treat. So maybe double that? There’s many ways to cut costs if you need to (shopping at markets vs Carrefour vs Taobao etc).

And then there’s things like toothpaste and washing powder and toilet paper and whatnot. Honestly, impossible to figure out. We don’t know how much you like your 4-layer paper! 🙂

    3) I kinda got bored writing this post. My apologies, lol. Actually, this question has been asked at least 10 times before with lots of answers from many different people. Try the search!

Why are you stuck to the $700 hotel? There are cheaper alternatives out there even if it’s short term.

Be aware that when you sign up under a different address, you will not be able to cash out to your own overseas bank. Chinese sites do not support e-wallets like Skrill/Moneybookers or Neteller either. (And if it’s an international site, e-wallets would not work either through a Chinese VPN as casino-related transfers are blocked from within China with Skrill, and Neteller does not allow China at all.)

Also depositing might be a pain in the ass, as a lot of Chinese pokersites require deposit through Chinese bank transfer, ATM or China registered Visa.

That being said, this can all be arranged by your contact, it just requires trust. Chris is a stand-up and trustworthy guy who I happily vouch for, as he’s a real life friend of mine who I’ve known for years. I’m sure plenty of regulars on this forum would say the same.

    Good luck.

Did you try paying Pet Castle a friendly visit and seeing if they might be able to help you get his address? Obviously you shouldn’t walk in starting by saying he scammed you. Be subtle. It can’t be hard to find it somehow.

2000RMB is enough to not let this go this easily imo. I would pay him a visit.
