Having lived in Xiamen, Shanghai and Suzhou before ending up in Chengdu as my last city in China.

Xiamen is really nice when it comes to weather (real blue sky, getting tanned, quite warm winters, low humidity in the summer even if its really warm). Sea food is amazingly cheap and good if that’s your thing.

Suzhou, a nice mix of modern and traditional, much more than Chengdu. Big parts of the city center is old style houses with many cool alleyways. There is a big lake quite central that is a very good place to live by, lots of bars, bakeries and restaurants along with some refreshing lake views. Also, Shanghai is very close and there are high speed trains all the time going there.

Shanghai, I dont think so even if it was interesting to live there for two years…

So a Nintendo DS and 3DS owner joining the thread 🙂

DS is basically a dead format now unless you have some fond old memories from those games and the energy to hunt down the games, or illegally download from the net, then with the right add on you are set.

3DS is much more alive, I actually got the non 3D version since Im not to crazy about 3d…

Over to the games, lots of Mario, Donkey Kong and the other Nintendo franchises that I always loved so much so for me its the perfect format. There is also a TON, (yes, caps on) of old good games available for download from the official 3DS store like Streets Of Rage II, Out Run, Space Harrier from Sega, lots of old NES games like SMB3, even more old Game Boy games.  You get the idea but you also realize that its not the machine for anyone. If you like Nintendo and their style along with Sega and their 16-bit glory you are in for the coolest thing ever, if not, well go for something more 2015 🙂

One more thing, the 3DS is region coded so if you are American make sure you get an US machine so you can use the download service etc etc…

Battery time sucks on the 3DS, even the soon to be released “New 3DS” (yes, they actually named it that) wont be that much of an improvement… 3-4 hours.

Have a reputation of a brutal killer. Buy thieving insurance in your local agency, they would kill the thief who would make them pay :) Not expensive either Have couple poisonous snakes on a balcony as pets, though it has side effects when a repairmen needs to do stuff :) (true story cause i have them). But in the end, chances are you will be hit by a car before.

You picked a good thread to make a joke out of, I hope you wont ever get robbed in your home while sleeping at night,if it should  then you might see why there was a serious thread started on this topic.

Ive seen so many people trying to be funny here, most succeed but you are just a fail…

    1. Lock the balcony door no matter what floor you live on.

We had a visitor coming in through the balcony at the 12th floor were we lived.

They had been targeting where foreigners lived in the complex and several of us had visits that night while sleeping.

    2. Another good one is to change the lock to the front door when you move into a new apartment, you have no idea how many keys that might be floating around. I know you can debate how good the locks are but at least the risk of a former tenant visiting is stopped.

    3. A safety chain on the inside of the front door might also be a good idea just like making sure the balcony has more of a lock than just the door handle which have been the standard in most apartments I lived in all over China.

    Good idea for a thread.

    Phone number helps.

Registered mail from Sweden usually arrived within 7 days and like I said, I never got any of the non-registered ones.

Those who lost packages, it might help to go to your local post office and ask if there is any packages waiting to be picked up.

I was asked numerous times at my post office if I knew the people for all those undelivered packages…

I did a bit more than five years in Chengdu and I quickly found our I only got mail that was sent as registered mail, no other letters or post cards reached me, never lost a regitered mail though. Not sure if it’s me having bad luck or what but it might be worth trying out.

As the Swedish chef at a Swedish restaurant in Chengdu it hurts to see your connection with horse and meatballs, I can assure you our meatballs are 100% pork meat but more important, it’s my mom’s recipe and that is a warrant for success isn’t it?

By the way, us using a Dala horse as our logo is not connected to the meatballs 🙂

Edited due to wrong quote, this is Colin’s post that I replied to.

Thought 4.8% abv was the highest for Tsingtao, but now I know 5.0% is probably the highest. Is that because Swedish people very much love drinking than elsewhere in the world? I know a few Swedish and they all drink!:)

Yeah, we love to drink 🙂

Since all the state store beer is 5,0% I guess it’s hard to sell weaker beer but it’s all a fake label away to reach those 5,0% isnt it ?

Just as a fun beer fact.

When you buy Tsingtao in Sweden it’s 5,0% but they charge a fortune (30RMB) at the state owned store where we are allowed to buy alcohol.

Last time we went to Wenshu yuan the vegetarian restaurant was closed but we found a very good one close by.

Here are a few phots from our dinner there (just ignore the rest of the blog as it’s meant for my parents and friends back in Sweden haha)

    http://danielwikstrand.com/2013/11/01/been-lots-of-eating-lately/

PM me if you need the exact address for the place, I should be able to find out 🙂

Soojin says that the hot springs are amazing.

Unfortunately it’s been a long time since she visited so you have to find them by yourself 🙂
