I want to make gay friends don’t mean we must need sex.

maybe I am being a little bit ridiculous and stupid, but considering you seem so inexperienced, I would say HIV is rampant, never have unprotected sex with anyone:D

    Where do you keep them?

I think he meant he has been a virgin for 20 years. It is kinda sweet for me that he said he just needs a hug. So here goes my free hug to you, joshua chou.

They’re always friendly to foreigners in my experience, especially Tibetans. When I was in Lhasa the Chinese people that I went with told me not to walk alone on the street at night! There were no problems though.

I feel hard to agree they are always friendly to all foreigners, they are “friendly” to white-skin “foreigners”. I am sure they worship western government, and they are generally very very very nice to westerners. But the westerners in their mind are Caucasian, for all non-uygur Chinese people and the foreigners that get Asian faces, I would say NEVER NEVER NEVER walk alone on the street of Urumchi at middle night.

This forum is so powerful that people even think it could be used to cheat in examination.

You and your girlfriend are right, you are taking a risk by intervening in a crime. Chinese people can stand by and do nothing as petty thieves operate with impunity, but my instinct (and the instinct of most foreigners, it seems) is to intervene because it is the right thing to do. Chinese have a lot redeemable qualities but some bad ones as well like littering and not helping strangers in need.

It is also the instinct of most Chinese people, but the truth hurts.

I saw a Xin Jiang kid picking a pocket couple days ago on the way home from work and instinctively shouted at him.

Agreed, be careful about the Uygur and Tibetan men in Chengdu, I swear to God it is not racist! Most thieves with the descent of Han and other minorities are usually not very violent in Chengdu, I can not say they are safe but at least relatively not very violent, compared with the Uygur. Even the most Uygur pedlars I’ve saw on streets were very rude and they even force you to buy their poisonous rice cake (it is said that the cake has mercury within). So how can you imagine what a Uygur thief would do to you?

So if you want safety, you must try to keep away from these Uygur as you can, it is not racist, trust me. And you know the Law here is flawed, the Police would not give a shit most of time, maybe they treat foreigners better, but it is better to be smart yourself.

My story is a sad and harrowing one.

I am kinda sorry that my thread reminds you of the sad memory, which is definitely not the reason why I started it.

But that is another tale and I may continue it another time. When I get my breath back and my head stops spinning so

I have been told that every heart has an unknown corner, has unforgettable scars that we do not want to be uncovered by others.

But I also have been told that the people who have the courage to face and share their dusty past are the true human fighters that deserve everyone to respect and learn from.

I’ve got one sentence as the appreciation for the sharing of your story. “The people who take the forthrights are lucky, because he finds the shortcuts. The people who take the meanders are also lucky, because they can experience more of sceneries. It is one kind of attitude of luck real Christians have, that every step we’ve taken and every view we’ve experienced are what God knows, are what God cares, so I am lucky to have them all.”

I have been always believing that everyone, including you and me, has their own story, but God bless us all, so we can move on towards the future without any unnecessary fear and concern!

Thief stole something from lady. I chased him down. Lots of people watched him get away. wtf, China?

First, I highly respect you for your heroic action.

But I have some shallow personal opinions.

1: It is nearly impossible to catch a thief in China all alone. Normally ,they are very skinny and fast.

2: Chengdu is a relatively moderate city, the thieves are usually mutually independent poor boys who are driven by the cruelty of the society. Most of they would not hurt you in most cases. But in southeast China, like Canton, nearly every thief is connected with organized violent underworld, even if you catch one, you might get bloody revenge

If I were you, I would just call the police. as for the reaction of the police, it’s none of my business, cause I already do what a citizen should and could do in this society of Chinese characteristics.

I do think that you are very lack of knowledge about the world war II and China. Japan is the biggest aggressor, China is a country that is always friendly to other countries from the ancient times. If you expect most of the world to support Japan, I hope you can get out of China.

I think Charlie was definitely not referring to WW2 but the current situation. And you also can not expect Charlie to know the exact current situation too, considering he is just a foreigner who happens to live in Chengdu. The most message he have got are from the western medias. So I think it is understandable! Please do not yell at people like that.

    @ Charlie

if you do a survey, you’ll find China actually is a poor victim.

gay bar? where is the gay bar? is that dangerous?

I don’t know if it is dangerous in gay bars, so I do not suggest it. If you are gonna to go there to get some friends, the only suggestion I can give is you have to take some effort to find a descent gay bar and do not easily take a random drink from a random stranger!

Plus, I just know it is risky if you try to find a random foreign guy naively without any kinds of concern and guard on internet:D.

    Quote:
And i am sure that you may know it is not allowed in china because of chinese people’s traditional thought. Many people hate us.

I assume you meant gay marriage, as far as I’ve already known, most countries in the world don’t allow gay marriage currently, including some main countries, like the U.S and Russia.

I think Chengdu is a very tolerant city, the most people are nice. so no need to be upset or to care about how a small group of people judge you, just keep your head up and act like “I do not give a shit”:D! Personally, I do not agree many people hate you, maybe most straight guys are just not very interested in you but I can not agree they hate you. Trust me, there are people who like to judge you everywhere you go, especially when you go to a traditional christian country.

And I also think a lot of weird Chinese girls are big fans of gay literature 😀

In conclusion, you don’t have to pin ALL your hope on westerners, there are also enough Chinese sites for meeting gay friends, but as what I told you, have some guard to random strangers no matter what nationality they are! And please just remember, just feel good about yourself and learn to embrace it.
