Mandarin is fine, south side of the city is best, a lot of teaching jobs and non-teaching jobs are more and more common, Chongqing is great to visit Chengdu is great for living, i think you need to ask yourself what you want. and then go get it.

Other than SQR, there are two Chinese orgs One Foundation and the local Red Cross. I’ll try and get their contacts and post tomorrow. In 08 the Bookworm organized daily trips into the region to deliver water, clothes, tents and other stuff. Did you try contacting the emails on SQR, or any telephone numbers?

the page is outdated. they began after 08 and did a lot of work after that earthquake and for the next couple of years … i am not sure how active they were in the last year or so, but the connections and experience and trustworthiness are all still there. Peter Goff from the Bookworm started the project back in 08, if you are interested you could probably drop by the Bookworm and ask around.

As for this, prob the best bet would be to head out Sunday and try and get a good look, or even Sat night, and pick the closest, best mtn top option. Check weather reports for clarity etc. And assume that the trip will be as fun as seeing the shower of meteors, just in case we dont see shit, I’d be totally down to do it, i’ll call charles and perhaps we can post a clear Event in the forum sometime in the next few days

I think a flea market BBQ thing would be a lot of fun, so let’s try and find a location for CL regulars to do it every so often. Charles, Chris, let’s talk via phone or something and perhaps have asmall spring cleaning event?

As for donating, can i do it now Louise? I would rather not wait till June.

your picture goes well with that last post brendan. “Confusion” the shower is actually a few days long, starting around the 17th and going through till like the 23 or so, depending. So its not like ONE DAY based on Julius Caesar. ALl we need is a clear sky during those days, and we should see something.

I recommend flower town, perhaps the location Charles was considering for events? If not, I can arrange it for an upcoming weekend. BBQ. Music. We would need to know that people will def. show up.

i woud be down with taking a trip 2-3 hours out, perhaps Mingshan, or even a bit further, and finding a mountaintop to watch this from. If we get a crew, we can do it.

I have read all of the books, so it’s hard to watch the series, not because it isn’t dope, but because i have built up images in my head of everyone. The series does clarify a lot of things though, the books are dense and filled with characters. easy to lose track.

Season Three will undoubtedly have my least favorite event/aftermath … the one that i think sealed Martin’s rep as “that guy” when it comes to killing off awesome characters.

I do not have first hand exp with int’l schools, but I have met people and spoken to teachers etc. Yes, very expensive, but in terms of curriculum, i think not bad. I will pass this thread to them via email and encourage them to come here and share their information.

I can confirm that the Music Box is a great place for kids. I will not be in Chengdu for that week, but I am pretty sure my kids will be there. Cheers

All good spots, Wang Jiang is good for kids too because there are a lot of hidden spaces and lil bamboo groves.

I love the Music Box – Louise is a co-founder – and I take my little ones there as often as I can. The only thing about the Music Box, for me, is that general playtime is only in the mornings. Any plans to expand that?
