    @everyone else

Sorry for the confusion, the event will not be held this weekend, we’re going to plan it for sometime in March. I will keep this thread posted.

thanks JerryS, I am coming to your gym on Sunday, and we’ll straight this out ONCE AND FOR ALL! please don’t choke me out on camera.

But really, I talked with your friend and we’ll hash out some details on Sunday, and see if we can’t get the ball rolling on some MMA in Chengdu

well I have been thinking about this and I think the best solution is instead of doing something last minute like this, let’s use this thread to organize a couple proper events. Perhaps JerryS, you and I can help bring over both of these guys for a weekend/few days …

I will change the title of this post to reflect reality.

    Ok brothers and sisters,

We will be holding this event in one of two places: San Sheng Xiang Kung Fu School or, if JerryS appears, I may try and convince him to hold it at his gym. Time will be Sunday afternoon.

The key is, Chengdu needs to come through with people, or this doesn’t happen. So if you are interested in MMA, or just want to watch Vaughn beat me up, speak up.

If you have any questions, please drop them here and I will find a way to answer them,

it might be less really, i am just guessing at the flights and also for the man’s time. But basically, the above estimate is about right. It should be straight as long as we get 20 or more people. Hollering at JerryS and crew!!!

amazing how this and the poetry post began as farce, sashayed through a bit of ridicule, got tossed into realness, and are now both peppered with insight and lulz.

you know there was a post in the China Daily Show about this …

    http://tinyurl.com/aasvj7a

I don’t mean to make fun of you, but the language you use to describe your problems sounds funny in English. I am pretty sure you already have feelings that you may think are “love” but are actually what we in the West know as “puppy love” or, in the worst case scenario, “obsession”.

my advice is to just relax and enjoy the messages when you receive them and reply with an open heart. Stop thinking too much about everything, if that is at all possible. Your obsession will destroy the relationship (if this were a Western man, for sure), but perhaps Japanese men are familiar with the special way Asian women show their affections.

Now I know where all the recycling goes

down a funk street in hongpailou

past the rows of ankle high plastic seats

roundtables and dust covered plastic hats

rough faced workers with mouths full of pigfat

laughing out loud as they chopstick spar

a bowl of pepper dust covered meat and taters

without question no doubt better believe its the best food in China

past the lady in a corner sewing up pants

past the dog on his back biting at some fleas

past the tied up cat yowling out its misery

through a gate into the old powerplant

ruins remind me why i love this place

    life amidst the poverty

    no ghettos no guns

    no hard looks no despair

    gales of laughter send the

winter sausages swaying in the window

past a tower sinking into plaster

and metal and plastics and the detritus of a century

where the woman rocks a baby boy next to a pile of stacked old doors

    nails face up

waiting to be overloaded on the semi

three men pulling the wires out of a QQ and a fat man eyes me up

rickshaw after rickshaw pull up and drop off scavenged stuff

for the tractor to pick up and pile somewhere else

just when i think how quaint it is, to be broke,

how peaceful the black dog looks curled up

    camouflaged

    the tractor’s driver hops out

he’s maybe twenty, with an urbanites face

an urbanites pants and and urbanites shoes

he whips out a white iPhone, pops in his headphones,

    and hustles past

    It still surprises me

oh so now the game just got upped. Eli has to drop some shit and here I go taking on FredNas DistenJones:

I see drool dripping down her cheek

clicks in the background while i adjust my seat

white lights bear down, soft like sleep

killing my will to live as the minutes go on

like a cancer that never shows up

or a comb-over that never gets mentioned

the white elephant in this office space

is the taobao screen and QQ notifications

behind me the Global Center nudges the sludge away sleepily

like a giant caught in the swamps, stretching and finding himself

    tied down

    time for lunch

    cantine or croissants.

Checkin my pennies cuz I’m trying to

    get out.

I am not saying that’s what happened here cuz you dropped this late when most people have their eyes closes anyway so we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. I’ma rap battle you right here fool:

The Du The Du The Dirty Dirty Du

    Funky like my shoes

    in the mornin’

    Got fog in my nose

    and its borin

into my soul, can’t control, gonna hide in a hole!

Some man outside with a cart

squeakin all loud like a fart

    its only him and me

in the Hong Pai Lou (represent yo!)

    Droppin low low

    Gettin Mo mo

    Never fallin off just risin

    i cant see the horizon

    but its blindin

in the du the du the dirty dirty du

See this is the type of realness we need more of here on the Chengdu Forum. Value is something we don’t talk about enough, and I think that is why most of us just kinda stagnate like silver bars, instead of rising to the top of the value chain like iPhones, you feel me? I know its 4am and all and I should be sleeping soundly in order to keep my skin tight (which is kinda one of the values I was going to get into: I keep my skin tight) but I was rudely awoken … awakened … shaken awake? by the glass of water I drank just before I went to bed.

But yo I am getting off topic. Value.

I am actually not the sensitive type. I tend to be kinda brisk and I dont really listen well. But I tell great jokes, I used to be handsome and I can still play it off like I still am, and having traveled extensively, I have many experiences which women find valuable. I am constantly trying to up my game, by getting married and having kids, you know, cuz other women really appreciate the fact that I take care of my family. And by riding my bike a lot to get rid of this flab around my belly. I hang around people of value a lot, to get that trickle down value, cuz eagles of a claw hang out in the same spot and shit if you know what i mean.

I think i dont really have as much value as Billy, but I may have had some of that value at one time, but i straight cashed my value in and now i am just you know, you could say like i cashed that in a while ago and now i am reaping the rewards. I dont need to be valuable now right? Cuz I already got picked up off the shelf. So that’s my word.

We have a few posts here in CL that might help you figure out what we like about the city and what exists here for people to check out.

    Chengdu vs. Shanghai

    Chengdu vs Chongqing

    Chengdu Travel Videos

Top Ten Free Spots in Chengdu

Also ChengduPlaces.com is a good place to see what the city has.

It is a Chinese mega-city. China is not Spain or the Caribbean. It’s a country industrializing NOW, and doing it in a very big way. So if you are looking for a beautiful, convenient, environmentally stellar city, you’re in the wrong part of the globe.

Having said that, what everyone who lives here loves about the place is the vibe of the city and the people. And unless you actually get out and get to know them in some way or fashion, that will be lost on you. The food here is excellent. I miss it when I am gone. The city isn’t as polluted as others, but it still is polluted, check out Chengdu Air for some depressing details. But by and large the weather here is pretty good. The girls are cute. /shrug.

I stay here mostly because I know it well and when you get to know any city, it grows on you. Like this weird mold I have on my butt.

thanks for the responses. I am not actually trying to answer these questions, just putting them out there. I personally think China’s sense of history is very very flawed. I find basic lies everywhere in almost every narrative you hear. But at the same time, I am becoming less and less impressed with the mainstream Western media. I think their coverage of China is excellent – albeit very negative – but the same type of serious, no holds barred muckraking is reserved for blogs and second tier news media in the home countries. rarely do you see mainstream westrn media tackle the US government the same way they tackle the Chinese government. Much more balanced, much more time taken to be “objective” whereas with China the coverage is basically: the government and its entire system is completely fkd. Which is true. I think the coverage of #Occupy in the Western mainstream media is very instructive.
