What you talkin’ ’bout, Willis?
TommyParticipantDarius,
I returned to Chengdu a year ago and like you I wanted to get in some Mandarin lessons when I wasn’t working. I have one-on-one classes at the Mandarin Club and they are to my liking. Also, their school is near the Tongzilin Metro stop on the number one line in the south of the city, so their location may be convenient for you.
I will sign on with them again this year. I have found them to be a big help. They are flexible with arranging classes to your schedule. The 100 RMB/hour (or thereabouts) for private lessons does seem accurate.
Check ’em out.
Warm regards,
Tommy
TommyParticipantIt’s a nice alternative to hitting up the ol’ haunt on a Friday night (not to say we discourage drinking beer).
Hear, hear! I have to agree with that sentiment. Anything to keep one outta the Glamrock.
This has been my exact idea for Friday nights: less boozin’, more two-wheel cruisin’. Definitely much more satisfying.
TommyParticipantWell thinking ain’t doing is it matey!!
Haha! Tis true, tis true.
I’m away from the ‘du on a business trip to Guiyang this weekend, hence, some time and space to think about this.
But the point is made, thinking is better when it leads to action.
TommyParticipantAaaaaaaaah! I’ve just moved apartments and have spent a bit of coin on moving costs and I want to stop spending and save now but everytime I read these posts in the forum I really want to see what this is all about and am enticed to get in on some of this sweet fixed-gear action and just throw down just a few more of the red Mao’s and live happily ever after in sweet two-wheeled bliss.
Oh dear, oh dear, crazy long-winded, rambling sentence…and I call myself a writing teacher.
Maybe, just maybe. I’ll think about it this weekend. These group rides and what Natooke has created here in Chengdu really are sensational and admirable (responding to Brendan and showin’ some love now).
Larry and Mr. Klink, many thanks!
TommyParticipantExcellent! Nice article. I enjoyed reading it. It makes me want to go out and buy one of these fixed-gear doozies. Maybe, just maybe. Still dealing with other set-up costs at the moment.
TommyParticipantFood safety problems in Chengdu… Also known as ‘eating out’.
This. Exactly.
Warm regards,
TG
TommyParticipantExactly… the temperature in Chengdu doesn’t even get that cold. It’s the dreariness that gets you.
True that. January and February can be rough, as you mentioned, not because of the temperature, but because of zero blue sky days and limited daylight hours. Makes me dance in the streets once April comes around.
Warm regards,
TG
TommyParticipant…like a one-eyed cat peeping in a seafood store.
SHAKE RATTLE AND ROLL!
TommyParticipantDiane,
Many thanks for your response. I am intrigued and I shall look into employment with The British Collaborative Programmes at Chengdu University of Technology for the 2014-2015 academic year; I am gainfully employed until June 30, 2014.
Warm regards,
Tommy
TommyParticipantI like the temperature…but not the rain.
TommyParticipantTake off you hoser!
TommyParticipantOh! I just checked the Chengdu Places site and found its location. Many thanks for the tip, Charlie.
TommyParticipantI checked the website. This shop does look worth checking out. Where is this shop exactly? Huarun Road?
TommyParticipantHow competitive is that “competitive salary”?
TommyParticipant…except for the overpriced Guinness at the Hamhock.
TommyParticipantIs this still going on? I’d be interested in trying it out.
