Bertalan FarkasParticipant
Was trying to post the Soundcloud links to some of the new Robert Hood stuff earlier. Trying again:
Some of Steam Days there:
Bertalan FarkasParticipantMotor: Nighttime World 3
Bertalan FarkasParticipantNot a mix, but more of a concentration of sounds and styles, I like it
Bertalan FarkasParticipantIf your are amping the FlyLo album then why not another genius:

Bertalan FarkasParticipantAnd Mr Robert Hood ? Nah?
Yes, Daphni is also Caribou in a more dancy mood. Or he used to be called Manitoba as well.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantBrendan, after a few listens the Nathan Fake album is not quite as his earlier stuff.
However, on another note, Calexico have a new album. In spite of my electronic leanings, I think Feast of Wire is a diamond. Any views on the new one?
PS – The Robert Hood one is pretty nice too.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantWell, when not overwhelmed with all the stuff that goes into preparing for a wedding I have been listening to:
Richardo Villalobos – Dependant and Happy (1 and 2)
Peter Van Hoesen – Perceiver
Minotaur Shock – Orchard
The Black Dog – Live at Berghain
Daphni – Jiaolong
Marconi Union – Different Colours
Nathan Fake – Steam Days
Bertalan FarkasParticipantA handful of songs of Soundcloud too:

If you are that way inclined, there seem to be a few torrents of “Cut Off” going around.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantWas at Yafei in Ba Bao Jie recently for something minor. Got hooked up with an English speaking Dentist, Peter Torres. I did not think it was too pricey (epsecially compared to what I would be charged back home). Did not mind paying a little over the CD average as at least I could be 100% that he understood what I wanted done.
The appointment number I have is: 15184362966
Others rate Huaxi, but have not been there myself.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantWell last.fm never lies! My top listened artists are (a bit Warp heavy):
Boards of Canada
The Black Dog
Autechre
2 Lone Swordsmen
Flying Lotus
Gus Gus
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Plaid
22-Pistepirkko
Mogwai
Pan Sonic
Bertalan FarkasParticipantYes, the security deposit is in RMB and then you pay any balance on the card in Dollars, Euro or Pounds (whichever one you chose for the card when set up) to a Bank of China branch. Not all branches in Chengdu deal with foreign currency transactions so have to be careful here too.
The card works fine buying stuff on the internet as well, but from sites outside of mainland China.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantForgot to mention I also needed a letter from my company stipulating my income which was stamped with the company chop.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantI have had a Bank of China Mastercard (Guo Ji Ka) for 2 years now and have had no problems. I went to the provincial head office in Luo Ma Shi, paid a deposit of 5,000 RMB (which is put into a low interest account) as a security deposit. Your credit limit is basically this in the currency of your choice at the start. You can apply to increase this over time though. There is the usual form filling but the tricky part was that I needed to show that I had at least 1 year left on my work visa before they would complete the application. The card is issued in Shanghai and posted to a branch in Chengdu where you need to collect it at and activate it on the phone.
I have used this card in Ukraine, HK, Ireland, Vietnam with no problems. Be aware this card cannot be used in the mainland. They have an English language speaker on the phone number provided if you need it. The balance of the card needs to be paid in the currency which the card is issued in NOT RMB.
I hope this helps!
Bertalan FarkasParticipantYes, thanks Charlie. A dedicated forum for DJs in Chengdu is the way to go.
What about not just for mixes though, self-produced tunes and the like…?
