Bertalan FarkasParticipant
Hamburg weirdo DJ Koze out with a new album, really good stuff on here with tons of collaborations (such as with Caribou, Ada, Matthew Dear…)
On his label Pampa, the album is called “Amygdala”, highly recommended

Bertalan FarkasParticipantCapricciosa
卡布里乔莎意大利料理
Inexpensive Italian food (with a Japanese twist) in Shuang Nan. 5th Floor of Ito Yokado.

Bertalan FarkasParticipantQuote:I saw Radiohead last year and they played everything off King of Limbs but I would have preferred to hear everything off Amok.I hear ya! Have not seen Radiohead in donkey’s years but would be intriguing to see Thom Yorke with that band he has put together for Atoms.
The new Mogwai album is also really good – Les Revenants Soundtrack (even though it’s a soundtrack it sounds like a completely new album)
Bertalan FarkasParticipantAny views on Atoms for Peace yet?
I like – Amok, Stuck together pieces, Unless, so far from listening to it…
Tighter arrangements and instruments from his last album (Black Swan is a classic still though)
Thumbs up?
Bertalan FarkasParticipantYoutube tune of the thread me thinks:

Bertalan FarkasParticipantI just came across an article on this today: How to Pass Your Next Taxi Audition
While it is about Beijing, some if it does apply here. Getting a taxi out in the north east of the city where I work is a nightmare around rush hour.
It seems Chengdu has slowly increased the number of taxis though and allowing non-Chengduren to drive them. This resulted in me having to tell a driver from Suining where to turn/drive for one memorable journey.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantNew Album from the mighty My Bloody Valentine sneakily released last night!
Called “mbv”,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBV_(album)
Purchase details here:

Listening now…
Glad to have them back! Proof Anglo-Irish cooperation can work!
Bertalan FarkasParticipantQuote:The Knife – new album coming soonA lot of hype around this one, and hopefully worth the wait.
This could also be big, on Kompakt soon:
Coma – In Technicolour
https://soundcloud.com/kompakt/coma-hoooooray
This is hilarious:
Bertalan FarkasParticipantIf you liked Andy Weatherall’s “Masterpiece” mix for MoS (I certainly did) then you might dig his recent collaboration under the name The Asphodells.
The new album is called Ruled By Passion, Destroyed By Lust (will there be a better title this year!??)

Bertalan FarkasParticipantJust came across the latest DJ Stingray Album – FTNWO
Awesome stuff and don’t know anyone else doing this kind of stuff at the moment since Drexciya (https://soundcloud.com/clone-nl/drexciya-journey-of-the-deep) are no more.
FTNWO:

Is it too late to include on the best of 2012, ha ?
Bertalan FarkasParticipantYou mean “Luxury Problems”? Thought it was quite good actually
Dubby stuff that is a continuation of what he put out last year: Passed Me By & We Stay Together
He has done suff in the past with Claro Intelecto (who I thought put put a slightly better album)
Agree on Jon Convex, the label seems to be going well too.
PS – You did not rate Alcachofa? (whatever about his more recent stuff, that one is a classic)
Bertalan FarkasParticipantHey AM,
A little surprised at your list, what no Villalobos or Shed?
The Grimes album is coming up a lot and its certainly a strong one (as good as Halfaxa though?)
Hear her live show is “evolving” a lot, so Shanghai could be great.
Was disappointed with The xx album though.
Didn’t listen to much rock/indie this year but thought the Dinosaur Jr Album – I Bet On Sky, was pretty decent.

Bertalan FarkasParticipantRay, was there anything other than Mastodon that was worth listening to in 2012?
The things I liked were:
Light Asylum – Light Asylum

https://soundcloud.com/mexicansummer/light-asylum-at-will-1

Bertalan FarkasParticipantI don’t think those in the book are apologists for Mao – far from it. Some of them have serious reservations about the selective use of facts in the book and their academic rigor. I for one would not put David Goodman as a Marxist or pro-Marxist. If you want a different view on Mao, try Jonathan Spence’s book. It focuses a lot on his early and formative years.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantHave you seen the academic response to it though? Was Mao Really a Monster: The Academic Response to Chang and Halliday’s “Mao: The Unknown Story”, edited by Gregor Benton and Lin Chun
This book opened more discussion on Mao than I think was intended…Especially on the sensational aspect versus the academic merit of the work.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantI liked China Candid: The People on the People’s Republic (by Sang Ye). It is a bit old now but interesting cross section of people interviewed in this. Including some pretty gruesome accounts of what happens to people on death row.
Currently enjoying: China in 10 Words by Yu Hua. I like his commentary linking current thinking to previous political campaigns.
Bertalan FarkasParticipantBeen listening to the latest Prins Thomas album and it’s great. As good as the one he did with Lindstrøm (also called II)
Not a lot on Youtube at the moment though –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvMxYpc0irU
Some on soundcloud:
Bertalan FarkasParticipantSome Redshape for you:
Redshape – Groom [Running Back]
From the upcoming album:
Redshape – Paper
Bertalan FarkasParticipantSorry Charlie but when I see/hear the words “electro jazz” it makes me cringe. Who comes up with these terms anyway? Not the artists themselves I am guessing.
Well, on to new music. If you like techno like I do, the new Redshape album has got me excited. A great talent in the techno world anyway. What’s your opinion?
Bertalan FarkasParticipantQuote:Any other electro / Chinese traditional colabs you know of guys?Try locate a Beijing Based act called “FM3”. The are behind the famous Buddha machine. They use a lot of traditional instruments and produce ambient/electronic stuff. http://www.fm3.com.cn
A Sichuan artist, Wang Lei has also used a lot of gu zhen and er hu in his work. Especially on: http://www.rockinchina.com/w/馨_(Wang_Lei)
I came across this recently and it’s not bad either:
