Everyone involved in “Alfonso’s” fight should be ashamed.  Double Ds on a Chinese girl look more real.  Ko’d on a leg kick!

I don’t know. My friend said he was bringing a few other people. I’m on my way to Lan Kwai Fang now. I will meet my friend at 6:30. Here is the phone number on the flyer 028 6519 8999. You can give them a call and see if you can score tickets.  There isn’t a price listed on the flyer.

I just got an invite to some fights that are taking place at Miu tonight. I wonder if this is where the Moko/Pancho match will take place.

What is your schedule like Jerry? What time are you offering  MMA? Where are  you training? Do you have a cage?  Who is your new coach? Where was he fighting K1? Was it for the real K1 organization or just K1 rules? I wouldn’t mind coming by and checking it out.

As for Moko, I warned people about him years ago. I knew From the moment that I met him that he was shady. Pancho will regret working with him. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt.

Classes will take place at Somerset Riverview serviced residence. White collar is in reference to the level of competition; professional, amateur,  and white collar. The program is for young professionals who are  more interested in getting fit through competing than in fighting. Most of the training  will be based on Muay Thai and boxing, but sparring and demo bouts will not allow elbow  or knee strikes. Participants will be provided with necessary equipment and protective gear.

@Jerry, I’ve been meaning to come by and check out your BJJ classes. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the time. I should have some free time next month to drop by and get tapped out a few times.

@ Charlie, All sessions are generally 47 minutes long, but if you still have some energy left afterwards and would like to have a few extra rounds of sparring or drills I would be happy accommodate. It’s a pretty high-intensity workout so you won’t want to do much more than an hours worth of training because the increase in cortisol levels could actually work against you and make it harder to lose weight/gain muscle.

    @Vincent
, there’s nothing miraculous about hard-work and science. The key is over-coming the tendency to give up before you reach your goals. That’s where a qualified personal trainer comes into the equation. I know the price might seem high at first glance, but I can assure you that the quality of training provided and location is unrivaled in Chengdu. My goal with the 12-week transformation program is to teach clients all they need to know to take wellness into their own hands and lead a healthy lifestyle. Think of it as an investment in yourself. Your health and well-being is worth way more the 9000, isn’t it?

Furthermore, several trainers throughout Chengdu charge 200 – 500/session + a gym membership for PT and many of them don’t do much in terms of giving their clients the information they need to take care of their own health.

At the end of the day, my value as a trainer is dependent on the results of my clients. As such, I do everything in my power and go out of my way to help them reach their goals. Luckily I have been successful so far and have been able to continue to do what I love as a result.

Hello Charlie. Thanks for your interest. PT,  Kickboxfit, and the 12-week transformation program are offered at Somerset Serviced Residence, The Ascott at Raffles City, or a location of your choosing. The cost of PT and KickboxFit is 300 per session and can accommodate up to 3 people. The 12-week transformation program is 9000 and includes everything you need to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The boot-camps are offered at a location of your choosing and can accommodate 4 – 10 people. The cost of the boot-camp depends on the number of people and the location.

Let me know if you have any more questions or would like any more info. I hope to hear from you soon.

Frankie is right about teacher’s generally being offered salaries which are too low. I have talked with several recruiters and school officials and know for a fact that recruiters are often taking a portion of the teachers’ salaries for themselves. I have known of teachers who have taken jobs that pay 4500 a month and find out later that the people who weren’t paid through the recruiter made 6000. I have also known of teachers who came here to “volunteer” and receive 1500 a month while the recruiter receives 2500. And don’t think that this only happens to foreigners either. I worked with a teacher who was very young and beautiful when I first arrived in Sichuan. Everyone at the school liked her and was always talking about how beautiful she was. After two years of teaching and strengthening her ties with the leaders she decided to become a recruiter because it payed better. She quickly went to work finding foreign and Chinese teachers that she could pay 2500 – 5000 and charges the schools 3500 – 6500.

Most of the training centers and private schools can afford to pay teachers more than they currently are, but don’t because they don’t need to. The centers here in Chengdu aren’t overly concerned with quality and will employ anyone who can speak a bit of English whether they have a degree or not. Like Jerry said, good luck haggling for 300 when someone else will take 120. I don’t know about the CFTU so I can’t comment about it, but it doesn’t hurt to have an organization that costs nothing providing info for teachers.

I saw this post yesterday before anyone had replied. I contemplated posting, but decided to continue on with my evening instead of taking the bait. I like so many others on this forum have been in China a long time and have come across a few “locals” who have gone to the U.S. or Canada for a few years and then returned to China feeling superior to most Chinese and victimized by most foreigners. We all know why these people feel superior, because they are one of the lucky few who got out and had a chance to experience the world beyond the Middle Kingdom. The unanswered question is where does this victim mentality come from. My first guest would be that they had always been treated like little kings and queens based on the hard-work of their parents before they left China and went to America where they were forced to be judged based on their own character.

Lawrence, you have already proven with your initial post that you are confrontational at best and my guess is that you were probably treated with the contempt that you apparently deserve. As far as your comment that Gweilos can leave China if they don’t like it, I think that’s a cop-out. It’s pretty passive-aggressive to come on a forum that is mostly for foreigners living in or moving to Chengdu and complain about a problem that you have personally observed, supposedly, many times yet none of us have been party to. If you have such a firm understanding of American culture then you should know that unlike here in China it is completely acceptable in the U.S. to call someone out for their inappropriate behavior. In fact, the only way problems and misunderstandings are solved is by confronting them. Unfortunately, it seems that you are a coward and aren’t really concerned with confronting those who have wronged you or your comrades and finding a remedy for the problem. Apparently, you would rather criticize an entire community of expats, which you have previously reached out to for friendship and received numerous replies, for racism although you can’t point to a single person on the forum who has perpetrated any of the supposed racist acts that you have observed.

Your hypocrisy is only strengthened by the fact that you used a racial slur and complained about cultural insensitivity at the same time. While it is true that there are some foreign douche-bags in Chengdu that I would be embarrassed to associate with, the truth is that most of them don’t frequent ChengduLiving. The people on this site are warm-hearted individuals who more concerned with helping foster a sense of community and understanding than tearing people down and labeling them as this-or-that.

I hope you get the help you need Lawrence. There are a lot of great people who use ChengduLiving and a lot of great friendships to be had, but you’re going about it in the wrong way. While Charlie took the high-road and changed the title of your post, unfortunately you would never admit that you don’t understand foreigners even though it evident that you don’t. I have lived in China for longer than you lived in the U.S. My Chinese isn’t that great, but I have a Chinese wife, a Chinese family, and many Chinese friends. I would never assert that I understand Chinese people, just like I wouldn’t be foolish enough to judge all Chinese people as rude racists even though I encounter them from time-to-time. My suggestion is that you take some time to analyze yourself. Anger doesn’t come from our surroundings it comes from within. If you have a problem or feel angry about something face it head on and find a remedy. Real men don’t run and yell fire from the shadows, they grab a bucket of water and douse the flames.

If you’re serious about finding a training partner you can send me a PM, but you should know two things. First, I’m expensive (I know you can afford it). Second, I don’t train cowards. If you want to train with me you’re going to need to man up and confront your anger. Mind, body, and spirit are intertwined. You can’t strengthen one without strengthening the others. Best of luck.

Start keeping track for yourself. Chengdu has had a few days over 1000 this year too. Beijing just gets more press because there are more foreign reporters there. I check the aqi daily and Chengdu is generally worst than Beijing. It kind of makes sense since Chengdu is currently the hot spot for development right now.

I don’t know who told you that the air quality in Chengdu is better than Beijing, but they were lying to you Alexander. Chengdu is consistently in the bottom 15% of the country regarding aqi. Take today for example, Beijing aqi is 100 Chengdu is 346!!! There are only 15 cities that have worst air pollution in the entire country.

Here’s a couple of photos of Diniwid Beach. The beach is about a 7 minute walk from the gym. I took these photos using my phone. The Island is ridiculously beautiful, especially after spending the winter months in grey and dreary Chengdu.

Thanks Andrew. I actually just got a message today from a friend telling me that there is a new MMA camp opening up in Chengdu. I haven’t had a chance to talk with the owner yet, but it is supposedly the largest MMA site in China, 30 acres, including basketball courts, a football field, and an indoor training center. I know it is in the beginning stages, but from what I have heard they are looking to bring in some top notch trainers (muay thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj).

I can’t post too much info now because I don’t know that much, but I am hoping to meet up with the owner next week. I will post all the details as soon as I can. It looks like Chengdu is going to have it’s first real MMA training center very soon. I can’t wait!

There are actually quite a few muay thai gyms in the area (Chengdu, Mianyang, and Wenjiang). The problem is finding a decent trainer (my favorite trainer is in wenjiang at the moment. He’s a good guy, unfortunately the gym is just too far away.) Most the of the muay thai practitioners that I have met here are good fighters, but bad trainers. There are several reasons for this; the students don’t want to spar (especially with foreigners) or don’t take sparing serious, the trainers don’t have enough experience in Thailand, The trainers are too concerned with their own notoriety and money, classes are too unstructured, etc. The key to being a good trainer is helping your clients reach their goals and keeping it interesting. You have to love what you do, not the money that it can bring you. A lot of the gyms here do the same thing day in and day out and never add any variance; it’s easier that way and most of the people have never trained with anyone else so they don’t know any better.

As for events, there are going to be more major events in the future, but for now smoker fights are limited to Mianyang.

As for MMA, there are no good MMA trainers in Chengdu. BJJ and MMA are not the same thing. You can’t possibly teach MMA with only studying BJJ. Holding pads and teaching someone how to set up wrestling takedowns is an art just like rolling. Anyone can hold pads, just like anyone can choke a guy. The key is knowing the technique and being able to teach it. It is possible that Jerry is working with Moko, but I would refer you to my statements above about local trainers and point out that Moko reffed an MMA match where a guy took an illegal headkick while down and Moko did nothing but look at the judges outside the ring. If you are seriously interested in MMA I would suggest you move to Xian and work with Vaughn Anderson. Vaughn is hands down the best foreign fighter in China and has done an amazing job helping Wang Sai become the best welterweight in the country.

I myself am an ISSA certified personal trainer. I am currently training people out of Somerset Riverview Serviced Residence and helping design the new gym at the Ascott residence at Raffles City. I would like to open my own location in a few months, but no promises. I trained in Mianyang with Li Qing for about 4 years and know a lot of the trainers and gym owners in the area. I have rolled with a few black belts, purple belts, and blue belts in Thailand, but don’t have any belts of my own because I haven’t found anyone who is qualified to award belts in Sichuan. I wrestled in high school and have also trained in Thailand with a few professioanl MMA fighters. I hope to travel to Ole Laursen’s new gym in Boracay very soon and brush up on my boxing and get a chance to roll with some top notch guys. I have talked with Vaughn in the past about coming to Chengdu for a seminar and hope to get him here in a few months to show everyone what a true MMA fighter/trainer looks like.

If you are seriously interested in MMA and would like to train you can contact me at EliteFitnessChengdu @ Outlook . com or on qq 2521960698. If there are enough people I can try to put together a class and get some top level guys to come out once a month or so to run some seminars. I know a number of fighters in Asia and would love to be able to provide them with the opportunity to come to Chengdu, but I need to get a large enough class together to make it worth their time.
