22,000 for 6 months is ridiculous. Nowhere in Chengdu is the training worth that. With that being said, personal training really isn’t that cheap anymore. You’ll pay 5000+ per year at most decent martial arts gyms.

Where are you in the city? I can probably point you in the right direction. I know a few people in Chengdu who teach Muay Thai.

Yeah, it was a bit of a sideshow. Xu Xiaodong, the MMA fighter, has said that he will continue to accept challenges from traditional martial artists. He even said that he will offer 1.2 million rmb in prize money. I’m guessing that this isn’t the last match we will see.

I took my family back to the States from 2013 until 2015. I’d be interested in joining Sascha in a chat.

    Mobility Conditioning Seminar

Mobility is one of the least developed and understood aspects of physical conditioning.

Plenty of people display strength and can lift heavy bells and sandbags, or swing kettlebells for high reps… but they often display terrible terrible posture, movement patterns and range of motion.

You’re invited to come train with internationally renowned fitness coach Steve Maxwell and experience his system of mobility conditioning.

Steve’s mobility conditioning system build agility, coordination and transforms the natural aging process.

Many people think of mobility as a gentle sort of active recovery exercise– and this is one aspect– but there’s a whole other side of mobility that few are aware of.

In this seminar, you will learn:

Mobility exercises that increase strength throughout the 3-dimensional plane
How to link mobility exercises to create the absolutely best cardio conditioning possible
4000-year old, classical exercises even more applicable in these modern times

    Hello Quentin,

I’d be happy to work with you after Spring Festival. I am currently in the United States, but I will be back in Chengdu in early February. I have studied muay thai in Thailand, sanda in China, boxing in the Philippines, and a bit of MMA all over the place. I’m also an ISSA certified personal trainer with a Crossfit level 1 certification and a TRX Suspension Trainer certification. I trained people in Chengdu 2 years ago and worked at a UFC gym in Denver last summer.

The business went very well. I was fortunate to meet the right people and they had enough work to keep me busy. I had to change my initial business plan a bit and offer more than traditional PT and kickboxing, but I didn’t leave because of lack of business. I had spent 7 years in Sichuan and it was time to go. I have 2 daughters and I was worried about the pollution.

There’s a pretty good market in Chengdu for PT and other exercise related services but you need to get out, make contacts, and be flexible.

The big question is will they be handing out Ikea’s Swedish meatballs? I mean it is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Sweden and horses.

That’s a little disappointing to hear about the other gym. I heard that it was backed by Ren Gang, so I expected it to be top notch because he does have money to spend. I was told they had a couple of black belts there a few months back and know for a fact that the guys from Dagestan are beasts. But then again, I have met lots of guys who are talented fighters who do a horrible job as trainers so I wouldn’t be shocked. Maybe you should set up a competition in Chengdu to get noticed by Ren Gang so you can get some funding for your gym.

I know Wang Sai is currently at Legacy in the Philippines, so I guess that says something about the gym in Chengdu. The guys at Legacy are top notch (Ole Laursen, Zebaztian Kadestam, Richie Redman), but I would think he would stay here if he had the same level of competition. Then again, Chengdu isn’t close to being as beautiful as Boracay. While I was at Legacy I had an opportunity to roll with the head trainer Marcus Waters, a black belt under James Brown and Yousef Alirezai,  and found it impossible to pass his guard. He was just on a total different level from anyone I had rolled with before.

All this talk about MMA is getting me excited for your class tomorrow. I can’t wait o meet you guys and learn some new stuff.

You really have to allow logic to go out the window sometimes when you’re in China or it will drive you up the wall.

Absolutely. In fact, if you do a Google search of “Logic in China” the first sentence you will see is “Logic in China plays a particularly interesting role in the history of logic due to its repression and abandonment compared to the strong ancient adoption and continued development of the study of logic in Europe, India, and the Islamic world.” hahaha.

Don’t know, maybe you u just check the details to see what is happening there BTW, nothing is incomprehensible in China.

I think you meant everything is incomprehensible in China. E.G. Sweden Day is June 6 and has nothing to do with ponies.

However, Edgar Allan Poe’s birthday is January 19th and his first short story, Metzengerstein: A Tale In Imitation of the German, included a horse. It’s not too late, Eton house could change it up and have kids read it before taking a ride. Seems more appropriate for China.

When is Albert coming to Chengdu? It’s too bad that he lost his first match on TUF:China, especially since Dong Xin broke his hand in the fight and can’t continue on anyways. Wang Sai has been doing good. He won his first fight and I have a feeling we will be seeing him in the finale. I picked Wang Sai to be the Welterweight winner on the show from the beginning. He’s a very talented athlete and has more experience than most of the other guys. He’s trained a lot with Vaughn in Xian and Ole at Legacy Gym in Thailand and the Philippines. He opened his own gym in Chengdu last summer and brought Ole Laursen, Muslim Salikhov, and a bunch of Dagestan fighters to Chengdu to build the team. I don’t know what they got going on right now, I heard it is being used to train body guards at the moment, but I’m sure once Wang Sai returns it’ll be one of the best training camps in China.

They said he was from Mexico. He took a dive in the mid-second round. He wasn’t hurt. There wasn’t much power used by either side. Moko was given some sort of belt.  It’s pretty sad if he gets any students from the performance.
