Just to let everyone know the event was a great success yesterday, around 35 people came and the tailors took orders for about 37 suits and 60 shirts throughout the day.

The tailors were busy from the moment they arrived until about 8pm,and literally didn’t have a chance to put down their measuring tapes all day. We might have to do two days next time to meet demand!

Thanks to everyone who came, and I’ll be in touch when your suits and shirts arrive in Chengdu and we’ll arrange for pick-up. It should take about 10-15 days (last time was about 9 days). Any questions feel free to contact me, any feedback on the event let me know too.

I’ll definitely be inviting the the Beijing tailors back to Chengdu again in the not too distant future, so anyone who missed out this time, or drank too much guinness the night before, you’re welcome to come along next time!

If you’re interested in coming to the next Tailor Made Chengdu event, drop me a PM, email [email protected] or text/call 13880577514.

Anyone who wants to come tomorrow, but hasn’t contacted me yet, please let me know! 13880577514

We have around 45 people registered for tomo, a big increase on last time. The tailor, Carol, will be bringing two of her assistants with her to help her take measurements and assist everyone in choosing fabrics and styles.

Anyway, we’ll be in the business center on the third floor of Oakwood, which is near Hang Kong Lu in Tongzilin. I look forward to seeing everyone!

    Hi guys,

Event is coming up this Sunday, so I’ll be in touch with everyone who has contacted me this week to confirm times.

We should have around 30 people coming on the day, so I’ll try to space everyone out as much as possible to avoid congestion!

Again, if there is anyone else who hasn’t contacted me and would like to come along, drop me a message and I’ll put your name down.

    Really interesting article.

I quite often end up discussing how the difference between my own life and my parents is relatively small, and how western countries have actually changed very little in decades.

The difference between the lives of my Chinese friends and those of their parents is huge, even the difference between when they we 4 or 5 years old and now is staggering.

For watching TV shows on the internet, another option is 快播 ‘kuaibo’ which seems to have almost everything at the moment.

The software which is best for watching TV shows and movies seems to change over time, with the best software from half a year or a year ago almost useless for finding anything now.

The high tech zone is a pretty good example of what’s happening, the whole area is literally appearing from the ground up which is really amazing to see.

There’s also an planning exhibition center in the High Tech Zone which has been mentioned before.

This weather reminds me of visiting Beijing in December 2007 (pre-olympic clean-up), not a good thing.

    Hi all!

At the moment the provisional date for her coming back will be around March 2nd, they take a month long holiday for Chinese New Year, so that’s the first weekend after they’re back to work.

If any forum users are interested, let me know now which dates are most convenient for you and I’ll make sure I send you a message when the final date is confirmed! Any questions you can PM me too!

I don’t claim to be an expert but these are my two cents.

Actually for a lot of Chinese business people they don’t really care about the transfer fee, they care about the rent.

    1) Because the transfer fee is a fixed one off payment, and you will get the transfer fee back (often even higher) when you leave the property.

    2) Because rent is ongoing and part of your overhead costs, so the lower rent is the lower your overhead and greater potential profit.

Also I think most importantly here is that transfer costs are high in the most sought after locations and areas and properties which are already developed. Transfer fees are also higher for properties which are fully decorated or have expensive kitchens or other specialized modifications made by previous tenants.

It seems like Federico just wants to open a small cafe with some simple food and drinks, this could be done in a more basic location than would be needed if opening a full restaurant and also require less space, much less require a fully fitted restaurant to take over from. A small cafe could also be more flexible about the location, and choose an area with cheaper rents and low transfer fees to set up the cafe.

For a much lower investment I think a niche and quality small Italian cafe would attract a loyal customer base, even in a lesser location.

BTW, Federico, how is the hostel going?

Hi guys, all the stuff arrived yesterday so I’m slowly distributing the suits, shirts and coats everyone ordered at the moment.

Feedback seems positive so far, and I’m definitely pleased with the suit and shirts that I ordered for myself. If anyone who ordered needs some minor changes made I can help them find a small tailor in CD, if there are any big problems the tailor is more than happy to take things back for alterations.

The tailor should be coming back sometime in the future too, maybe after Chinese New Year, so if you’re interested in coming along next time get in touch and let me know your available dates/times.
