WoodWERDParticipant
Were you at Natooke on Friday? Thought the name was familiar for some reason…anyway, I can play after this week if you want to send me a pm.
WoodWERDParticipantWhich way are you guys headed in case I show up late?
WoodWERDParticipantHow did you get your start making burgers and what’s the most important/helpful thing you’ve learned doing business in Chengdu?
WoodWERDParticipantIn need of someone to hit with up at Jianshe Lu and 1st ring rd….great outdoor courts @ 30RMB/hr.
WoodWERDParticipantHmm tempted by the toaster oven by may have to go bigger. Interested in the colander and dish rack if you don’t find a buyer for the kitchen stuff.
I recently read one of the books you’re selling, The Art of War. It’s real good.
Except his is The War of Art :p
Can you list the book titles? I can’t view the photos due to shitty internet.
Sex Matters (Osho)
Expert Heads Up No Limit Hold Em (Tipton)
The War of Art (Pressfield)
Turning Pro (Pressfield)
The Mental Game of Poker 2 (Tendler)WoodWERDParticipantMight? Haha…
WoodWERDParticipantAlso we will probably keep this up every Monday. When Walking dead is over there’s Better Call Saul. When Better Call Saul is over hmm… can anyone think of a really popular TV series we could show on Mondays? Any ideas? Like a weekly TV series that people really like…
Game of Thrones, but I’m not sure when it starts up again and I think another place around town does a weekly viewing party if memory serves.
WoodWERDParticipantIf you aren’t opposed to digital downloads, I would give that a shot. On PS4 I only have a few physical games and everything else is digital. Buying games through PSN is my preferred method now to getting games on Blu-ray from Taobao or local shops.
Yeah, I thought I may be able to snag some used games on the cheap but doesn’t that seem to be the case with Dolphin. The majority of the PS4 games I have now are digital….curious to see what’s free on PS+ this month.
And Rick I’m on BF4, getting my ass handed to me. I heard Hardline was cool but my connection doesn’t fare too well with ping/latency dependent games 😐
WoodWERDParticipantThat’s really lame. I guess that explains why I’m always getting Japanese servers when I play Battlefield (US PSN account). I’ll check out game prices on that taobao store though, thanks for that!
WoodWERDParticipantI can put you in touch with the hiring/visa person at UESTC if needed. I like it here; I work two days a week with practically zero micromanagement. A lot of us live in the provided housing near the old Shahe campus, and we catch a bus out to the new campus (Qingshuihe) to teach. That’s about the biggest downside (imo) as it’s a 45 minute ride on the buses chartered by the school.
I’m a single guy so our living costs won’t really compare, but I do just fine on my salary. I won’t get into specifics but you’re welcome to PM me.
WoodWERDParticipantI’ve got a buyer lined up already but if it falls through I’ll let you know.
WoodWERDParticipantBeen meaning to check out TPAB, thanks for the head’s up re: Baidu!
WoodWERDParticipantThere are quite a few of us in that area, just not much of a bar/social scene geared toward expats (pssst Michael/Dieter!). I think the nearest place I’ve found is Dragonfly, but that seems to be hit or miss depending on the night. Like Charlie said I tend to head to Beer Nest, so if you need a guide let me know and I’d be happy to show you how to get there.
WoodWERDParticipantThanks for the reply. I could ramble on about corporations but I’ll just say to chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on. You’ve gained a lot of experience from the job, it wasn’t a total loss as you say. Very few large (US) corporations treat their employees like they’re anything more than a number on their balance sheet. Especially so for a publicly traded company; you hear stories about how awesome FB and Google are to work for, but those are in the minority.
Like I said earlier, it’s a very political (some call it high-schoolish) environment and it sounds like you decided to go against the grain as they say. If you’re not drinking the company kool-aid and are butting heads with people in power, you’re going to have problems no matter where they’re located.
WoodWERDParticipantNatural Gas Daily is the best title I have ever heard for a news source.
WoodWERDParticipantAhh, corporate politics. I’m curious to know where your idea of American corporate justice comes from OP. You say you’ve never lived abroad so I’m just wondering about the frame of reference. You seem pretty bitter about things so I’ll just offer my my perspective as a decade-long office jockey: If you choose to ‘hide’ in the same position for 12 years, odds are you’re eventually going to butt heads with someone, be it a colleague or manager. It sounds like it might be a good time to explore other opportunities within the company, and if that fails maybe look for another place to work if you think the new boss is going to be around for a while. Blaming America for your problems here is a little misguided.
WoodWERDParticipantInterested
WoodWERDParticipantThanks man, I’m sending you a pm.
WoodWERDParticipantHey findworkabroad, do you happen to know whether Chengdu PSB has started requesting background checks (i.e. proof of no criminal record) for Z visas? The US FBI has a 3-4 month turnaround, so I want to get ahead of it if necessary.
WoodWERDParticipantI’m on my phone, search the forum.
