WoodWERDParticipant
You must not be watching Spurs…game 3 in POR will be telling though.
WoodWERDParticipantNot only that, but it seems like there’s a link between fracking and earthquakes. Sichuan is probably the last place they should be doing this.
WoodWERDParticipantA friend of mine is a blacksmith in Chengdu. I showed him this, and he said, “If you are a member tell him to get in touch”. However, I don’t see a PM function. Is it here and I’m missing it?
It’s not very intuitive…use the ‘private messages’ link from the right hand toolbar, then you have to manually enter the user name.
WoodWERDParticipantThe attached Intercontinental Hotel has a pretty awesome buffet if I do say so myself. Was treated there a few weeks ago for a thank you dinner so I’m not sure the price. Seating is near the pool so you can see the megaiscreen and water park off in the distance.
WoodWERDParticipantWould’ve loved to have joined but I had make-up classes Sunday :\ And I managed to randomly wake up at 4:30 & 6am to check on my Spurs (grew up in SA) this morning, I was a little nervous given their history with Dallas and game 7s so I was relieved to see the huge lead in the first half. Round 2 is going to make for some good games in the West. If you guys happen to get together for weekend games I can probably come in to town and join ya.
WoodWERDParticipantThis sounds fun…my move into the city can’t come soon enough!
WoodWERDParticipantMy Chinese friend bailed on me and he was the one to be arranging hotel rooms…not sure I’ll make it :\
WoodWERDParticipantI’m in Tonganzhen near Longquan…about 30 minutes east by bus.
WoodWERDParticipantSemi off-topic but just to chime in…I’m currently in Longquanyi district and was planning to teach for a uni in the city this fall. I’ve got 10+ years corporate experience but this was my first year teaching, and the uni just emailed me asking if I had any more experience because of this ‘2 year’ rule. Fortunately I did have some experience teaching in college, but I’m waiting to hear back as to whether it gets me over the hump. Argh.
WoodWERDParticipantThis sounds right up my alley! And I was actually planning on coming to Chengdu with a buddy Friday night…maybe I’ll finally be able to meet some foreigners 😀 I like a lot of mainstream-ish hip-hop:
Outkast
XV
Kid Cudi
Kanye
Jay-Zetc…
WoodWERDParticipantDo they do jeans?
WoodWERDParticipantWow…hope you don’t mind me sharing!
WoodWERDParticipantWhat is it about this forum that invites so many of these kinds of posts? No offense to the OP if you’re a bonafide Chengdu-er.
WoodWERDParticipantTerrible story. RIP to the victims…130 more injured, unimaginable. I just received this email from the consulate, figured I’d share in case anyone happens to need it:

This consular district includes the provinces/autonomous region of Guizhou, Sichuan, Xizang (Tibet) and Yunnan, as well as the special municipality of Chongqing.WoodWERDParticipantJust a friendly bump. I haven’t worked with them personally, but I did happen to meet Sherry and some of her coworkers on the bus to a hiking trip one day. They were all friendly and spoke good English.
WoodWERDParticipantIf you guys ever come out to the Luodai area let me know. I’m a photog newb but love my Sony RX-100MK2. For me it was a good compromise between a DSLR and a compact P&S, but I could use some help with it.
WoodWERDParticipantI’ve pretty much decided not to risk the shut down headache in BKK and just add another leg to my flight to Phuket or Krabi. AirAsia has a promo for the next week and a half or so…hard to beat. Maybe I’ll catch a train up north and then work my way into BKK a few days before my departure.
WoodWERDParticipantI hear ya. And thanks for the site…I’ve been using http://www.travelfish.org which does a great job of covering SEA. Unlike you, I’ve yet to do much homework but have a lot more time to kill!
WoodWERDParticipantHeh, a girl asked me if I knew who sang that song the other day and my answer was John Mayer. Learn something every day.
WoodWERDParticipantI would imagine you’re barely scratching the surface in a day…I’ll probably spend a few nights couchsurfing and/or at a hotel before I decide whether to move on sooner than later.
