I’m sure it is more expensive, though I don’t know the price of the other brands. The NZ milk is usually like 20RMB though I think through waifood.com you can get a case of 12 for like 199. My family drinks a carton in like 3 days, so I really don’t know how long it would last beyond that after opening.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but I grew up drinking skim and never liked UHT milk also. I tried the Country Goodness UHT skim milk imported from New Zealand and I think it’s pretty good.

Jerry, an easy way to see if your VPN is working is to go to TraceMyIP.org.

It will tell your current IP, ISP, country (even down to state & city sometimes.) If it shows China then your VPN isn’t connected and working properly.

If you ever see a fat white dude with brown hair and glasses there say “Hi!” 😛

    Any particular dish recommendations?

I’ve been down that street near Oakwood, but I haven’t tried any of those places yet. My friend said that the one near the center with the biggest outdoor seating area was the best. Maybe I’ll try it this weekend.

Wish I could. I always wanted to be behind the scenes on a movie and would love to go to both those locations. Have to work though.

I do have that TaxiBook app. Would probably work better if my iPhone actually had service here. 🙂

It has lots of locations (claims 500+) and you can pull up a map to see where the place is and as you said it will display a card to show a taxi driver or it can speak the request aloud.

I still haven’t taken a taxi yet, but I would assume they would be able to understand it better than they could understand me.

I just figured out how to use that & it’s pretty sweet. How much do the buses cost around here?

According to this it’s 20,000. But, that page is also 4 years old.

Maybe I’m just dense, but I’ve not figured out how to squat without still being directly over my pants. I’d have to just take them off completely unless there was some bar or something that you could hold on to and lean back.

LOL I’m right there with you on the squat toilet. I know my apt. doesn’t have one though, so that’s good. I’m sure it’ll happen sooner or later, but I just wonder how long it will be before I’m out and get stuck using one in an emergency.

Different companies use different 3G technologies even if they are still 3G. For instance, in the states AT&T & T-Mobile are both GSM, so you can unlock your iPhone and use it on T-Mobile. However, the 3G standard that T-Mobile uses isn’t compatible with the iPhone so you still can’t get 3G, just EDGE. No idea what the companies in China use though.

I saw Captain America hear in the US & enjoyed it. Not sure I wouldn’t wait & watch it at home if I had it to do over again though. I’m not sure how much it costs to go to the movies there though.

Re: Avatar… I just read a few days ago that when Avatar was coming out China passed a law saying it could only be shown in 3-D effectively greatly limiting the number of theaters it could be shown in.

I don’t arrive until next week, so I’m not planning anything yet and don’t have suggestions. Just wanted to post because I’d never heard of the word “craic” in my life & now I’ve seen it twice in the past two days. 🙂

Has anybody been to Jiuzhaigou? I think I read about it on another blog I found via a link somewhere on this one. Looks really beautiful & I definitely want to go there at some point. I realize that’s too far out for a meetup, but I just wondered if anyone here had been there.

Too bad. I literally gave away a huge box of paperbacks and took a bunch more to a local store to trade in for credit which I gave to my dad.

I like your taste in books BTW, though I doubt I’ll buy any as I prefer e-books as well.

I mean no offense by this, but are used book prices that high there? If so, I should have packed all mine up to take with me instead of selling them before moving.
