    Hey Vincent,

We exchanged messages a while back when you were last in Chengdu.

I was training at 25 Hours Fitness, but to be honest it’s a bit of a dump, even though the staff in there are great. I’m training at MegaFit right now, and it’s a decent, clean, well kept gym. Plenty of weight plates, dumbbells, and equipment, with both Sauna & Steam Room for members use. Current membership rate is 1899 RMB for one year. It’s located next to Times Plaza, in the Top City building, Chunxi Lu.

Give me a shout when you’re in Chengdu.

    Less pudding, more beef!!

    😉

Dude, your street looks like it was a river! Walking home today was funny, even if I did get a little bashed in.

I think that’s enough rain for the year though!

Incidentally, decent (preferably organic) eggs are a good source of fat too. And no, they won’t make you fat, or raise your cholesterol!

    @tigerkuma

Fish oils are generally overpriced. I’ve seen products here running at around $50 a tub, which when you consider the quantity you’re getting, is ludicrous.

I would instead buy some Rice Bran Oil and start out with 2-3 tablespoons a day, as separate doses. Rice Bran Oil has an amazing profile, and a host of applicable benefits to your health and performance. It will soften your skin, aid your joint and muscle repair, and speed your metabolism for fat burning.

Grape Seed Oil is a close 2nd, and makes a great cooking oil over Olive Oil. Beyond that you can get additional fats from nuts, and take in the odd piece of fish here and there.

I’d be curious to see this warehouse gym. Those are the gyms I love, so long as they’re not too ratty! I used to train at Genesis in the UK, where the national powerlifting team were training. Raw as hell, chains laying about the place, atlas stones and tractor wheels out in the yard, it was awesome.

I sympathize on the ‘eating’ thing, I’ve relied on liquid nutrition myself at times when I’m pressed. I have been missing my treat shakes since I’ve been here to be honest, though I notice that fueled.cn stock All Max Whey, which is a great product for the money. ON’s Hydrolysate is an awesome protein, but it’s just so damn expensive.

I’ve always encouraged solid food first to anyone I’ve advised. There are some great proteins out there, and even new classes of protein being developed, but it’s all superfluous to a solid foundation. I’m fortunate in that I love to eat, and I can eat big, so it’s not tough for me to get what I need. Horses for courses!

Maybe we should hook up for a workout. I’m training at Mega Fit downtown, which is a decent gym, but there’s zero atmosphere most of the time.

    And too many treadmills!

Luckily I has some with me, but I’m sure it must be available in a pharmacy, or even a spa (as an essential oil).

If I find any I’ll post on here. Let us know if you turn anything up yourself.

I won’t drone on again here, but just a quick one for tigerkuma as I know you’ve been training for a while…

If you’re doing that much cardio, you need to be ensuring an intake of complex carbs from early on in the day, then shift your nutrient consumption to protein in the latter part of the day. Starting your morning with oats and 4 scrambled eggs would set you up for a good 4 hours, then at lunch you could take in some brown rice and chicken, along with some veggies. Same meal again (brown rice and protein) late afternoon, and finally a protein only meal in the evening. Im just brushing over here, but the carbs would help keep you full, provide ample energy, and reduce the need for protein. Sugar shouldn’t be in your diet, nor any breads. Keep your fluid intake up at at least 4-6 liters daily (no sodas!), and don’t be afraid of using good oils in quantity (grape seed, rice bran, olive, walnut, etc). The more consistent you are, the more it pays off.

@James… Firstly, ‘Hi!’… Are you bodybuilding? Where do you train?

I often find myself debating protein supplementation with lifters, because they’re so sold on the branding. A quality Hydrolysate definitely has a place post workout, but beyond that there is little need for supplementation in place of a little effort. Casein is an inferior protein of little value, and even the superior miceller casein can aggravate the stomach. A quality egg protein (ie: Optimum Nutrition) is great, but it usually runs a little under $50 per 2lb tub retail.

I’d much sooner quick fry a small cut of beef before sleeping. Low carb protein hit that won’t mess with you hormonally whilst sleeping.

I’m interested to see what this site is offering. I’ll be checking that out.

Okay, so I figured out why this wasn’t working…

The server address given by VPNTraffic (us.vpntraffic.com) is actually a domain held by HP STAR, hence the disconnect during authentication.

Use instead hk.vpntraffic.com or uk.vpntraffic.com and you’re a winner (finally)!

Good news is the HK server is much faster than the US based VPN I’ve been using.

Same here, switched to PPTP, get a connect that hangs in authentication for up to 2 minutes, then disconnects.

I’ve figured the set up myself based on the login/account details they’ve given me, it just plain does not work. Internet connect is essentially ‘Network Preferences’.

I even suggested VPNTraffic use my account details to login, which they’ve done, and claim it’s working for them, so I’m temporarily stumped!

I would always opt for a VPN first to cover my browsing, but for downloading substantial files (particularly P2P) , a proxy might be of benefit. I would personally allocate the proxy to my torrent client, and use the VPN for browsing.

    Damn you Chinese internets!!

I don’t drive, and I don’t see the advantage of having a car here unless you live in the burbs, AND intend on driving out of Chengdu. A motorbike would be way more convenient, and more fun, as well as being infinitely quicker inside the city.

You could even earn a few extra RMB giving attractive girls rides home!

    Here’s a tip you’ll dig…

Get an essence oil burner (cheap as chips), and burn a little Tee Tee oil in your bedroom. I got absolutely mauled for a few days, and it drove me insane. Once I burnt the Tea Tree oil, those little fuckers were gone.

They’re attracted to heat/humidity/carbon dioxide, so even burning a candle would keep them away from you.

As a bonus, if you rub Tee Tree oil onto a bite it will ease the irritation, and speed healing.

Mosquitos potentially carry a grab bag of diseases, so it’s best to deal with them asap.

Still dead in the water on this. VPN not working on Mac OS X, or iPad.

I second Charlie’s account, the place is nicely decked out, serving good food and drink (with smiles!), and carrying a decent tune(s)! I couldn’t help but think the place should be bigger, as it will surely attract a host of regulars in due course. There’s even free Wi-Fi into the bargain!

I’ll be heading back there for sure.

Super grateful for the free VPN, but I’m guessing everyone is facing the same mind bending puzzle trying to figure how to set this thing up, which I’ve decided after much wrangling, is literally not possible in this universe!!

I’ve contacted the providers to see if they can transport me to the alternate universe in which it works without hitch!

    😀
