DaveParticipant
I didn’t pay too much attention to the small print but a Superbowl Party was being advertised on the tables in there on Thursday night.
DaveParticipantIf you stick these coordinates into google maps there is a shop right there that will do it.
30.633195,104.076435
Its just up from the junction of the first ring road and ke hua bei lu.
DaveParticipantHey raschmidt and DCC. If either of you guys play football send a PM to AM or I.
Just realised the AM/PM thing looks cool but slightly confusing out of context.
DaveParticipantFirstly we would like to thank everyone that came down and contributed to what was a wonderful day for Expat sport in Chengdu.
Chengdu showed it can host events that previously were confined to the likes of Beijing and Shanghai.
Transport, TV coverage, food, bar, music, kids stuff, merchandising, advertising, dinners, awards ceremonies all combined into a wonderful day
That’s without even actually mentioning the quality of sport on show which was remarkable considering the relatively small expat communities of Chengdu, Chongqing and Kunming.
If you would like to see the results and photos then please visit our facebook page

One final thing is I hope that the Chengdu community can keep spreading the word about the various sporting organisations in Chengdu. Even if they are not your thing it is clear that they are a great way of allowing people new to the city to meet people and keep healthy. It is always great when people tell us that somebody had recommended us to them.
Football and rugby have always been big in China but seeing American Football, JiuJitsu, cycling, basketball and cricket all growing has been great as well. It’s been a big year for sport in Chengdu.
DaveParticipantOnly a few more days till the big event and the weather forecast is looking good for some late autumn Sichuan sunshine. Players start arriving from all over Southwest China tomorrow.
We are now pleased to announce the event will be covered by Sichuan TV 2 so come on down and find yourself with an audience of millions as you support your local teams.
Buses are filling up fast and will leave the Shamrock Bar at 12pm and 2pm.
Contact [email protected] for more information.
DaveParticipantThere are loads of Spanish speakers in Chengdu.
Between the football and rugby teams we have about 25. Not just Spaniards but Mexicans, Chileans, Costa Ricans, Colombians etc. Then of course most are here with their partners.
You should come down to the Southwest Showdown tournament this Sunday. There will be loads of friendly people.
DaveParticipantIn the past we have put up some workers in the Super 8 hotel in the Soho building on Ke Hua Bei Lu.It’s clean but slightly basic.
I think it’s slightly more expensive at just under 100RMB per night. It is perfectly located and walking distance to most bars you would want to visit and also a few nice ones within the building itself.
If cost is the ultimate criteria though then I would recommend one of the hostels Ray mentioned.
DaveParticipantReally cool flyer, can’t wait. Been too long since the last festival.
DaveParticipantHey Brian, I sent you a PM with the details.
DaveParticipantThere is still space on a few teams.
This Saturday will be the Sebastian Muller Memorial Cup and then the following Saturday the Gameweek 1 fixtures will be played.
Paul…. i sent you a private message with details.
DaveParticipantHi Jason, of course you can join if you are Chinese.
There is one completely Chinese team but there are also Chinese guys playing on all the other teams as well. Come down on Sunday and see what it’s all about.
DaveParticipantAny update on the clearer map? Should be a nice change of scenery.
DaveParticipantThe CIFL will be hosting an open invite afternoon of football this coming Sunday (1st September) in preparation for the start of the new season.
If you come down we will get you playing. All ages and abilities welcome.
The football will start at 3pm at the Taipingsi playing fields. All new players should meet at the Shamrock Bar at 2.10pm and we will make our way there in taxis.
Please get in touch if you would like to join us.
DaveParticipanthi, how about students team ?
Hi Bicycle
Student teams are fine. I would say about 75% of the players are students or teachers. We have a team that is made up mostly of players from SWUFE and should be adding a team from UESTC this season.
If you have enough to enter a full team (probably a minimum of 10 people but more likely 14) then we would be happy to have you. Likewise if you come up short on players we could include you in an existing team or add other new players to your team to make up the numbers on your team.
I am interested to hear more.
Dave
DaveParticipantHi Paul,
The standard is mixed. There are some very good players, a lot of mid level players but also some players who are not so good to put it politely. Between the organizers we have a rule that if you want to play then we will find you a place.
If you have been playing only 6 a side then that’s pretty much ideal as it is a 7 a side league. Get in touch and we can sort things out. Between now and the start of the season there are pick up games so new people can come down and give it a go. There is even one this Saturday afternoon.
DaveParticipantIt will kick off on Saturday 14th September and run through to mid December.
DaveParticipantYou are right.
We guarantee several people will fall unconscious or end up in hospital.
DaveParticipantExcellent, the last two of these have been a great laugh. Always seems to be a complete novice that wins as well.
DaveParticipantKick offs are
12.30pm -1 game
1.50pm – 2 games
3.10 – 2 games
Generally the ‘blockbuster’ games will be scheduled later in the day when the crowds begin to swell.
DaveParticipantYeah, I am interested too.
I’m a bit worried that scheduling it on St Patrick’s Day might split some of your target audience with them tied up elsewhere.
