    Zack and Stella,

Danny and I want to say a BIG thank you and congrats for keeping the Chengdu Pug alive and well!  And that is no easy task.  While we miss you both dearly, we know one day we will be doing business in ONE city together…where ever that might be!  We will just let Danny call that one.

Thank you for all your support and interest in our new venture here in Bangkok and much love.

    Have a great weekend!

Go Red Beard!  We left right before you guys opened, but heard you are doing really well!  Congrats…as we know what you have done is no small feat.  And dealing with all kinds of people makes you stronger and smarter!  My favorite line is how he swore “in front of my wife”.  Is your wife five years old?  Not sure how that matters!  Funny none-the-less.

Anyways, good luck in 2015 and hope to come see it soon!

In addition, we would love to see some Chengdu faces in Bangkok!  The Smokin’ Pug will be smoking as of February 12th!  Charlie-thanks for the mention and come check us out in the Spring or sooner.

This thread is funny and made me think when my mother-in-law, who mistakingly thinks I keep her son from moving back to America, said to me “You live in la-la land over there (referring to China) and you don’t have to face anything!”  I could not help but giggle, but knew it was really pointless to tell her China is anything but “la-la land”…whatever that even means!

Actually a big reason I left China because it was all to real!  The cheating, the manners, the business ethics, the get rich at ANY cost mentality, etc…  Of course, before all you “China is so wonderful” people jump down my throat, realize I understand fully all countries have their flaws, some are just more tolerable than others.  Maybe China represents the way people want to behave, the me-me, only me society, but can’t because it just would not be acceptable and you might get shoot if in the wrong country?  Sure I’ve wanted to fart at the wrong time, spit indoors, pick my nose for ten straight minutes, drive on the sidewalk to avoid waiting in line, but something tells me not to.  My upbringing, society, just a sense of that others might find it gross, who really knows. Some humility?

On my way to real “la-la land” Thailand, I overheard a Chinese flight attendant try to explain to a Thai attendant that the Chinese are so unruly on a flight is because no one ever told them how to behave!!!  The Thai attendant wasn’t buying it, but was being polite.  The complete lack of respect toward any flight rules were ignored because nobody spelled it out for them that a seat belt sign that is lit up means SIT DOWN and STAY DOWN.  The excuse train pulls in!  Too much!

So yes living in China is certainly real in my opinion, all too real.

We took our staff there last year on Christmas night…average food, price was 450/per person includes all you can drink average wine.  They had a grammar school kids performing silent night and other christmas favorites…fun, tacky and obnoxious.  Christmas in China.

    Charlie,

The Maokong tea fields are magical!  Taiwanese oolong is my favorite…especially the teas with a slight sweet aftertaste.  You can take a cable car all the way to the top.  Just sit, take in the views and have tea served to you by locals that live up there.  The locals speak perfect Mandarin and love to teach foreigners about the tea culture.  I am sure you know all about the tea culture, but the surroundings are unreal.   Have a cup for me!

Yes the protests are showing no signs of ceasing.  And they have become violent…not like 2010…but obviously not over yet.  Not the best time to go in my opinion (not out of personal safety, but general city mood), but prices of hotels will certainly be down if you care about that.  I love Bangkok and will still go, but if this is the first visit to the city I might advise against it.  Once again NOT about personal safety but the atmosphere is more tense.

I think it best to never photograph protests in any country!  Of course many do and I have, but it is still best not to and more polite as a visitor.  I really don’t think it will turn violent and even if it does it will most likely not effect tourists.  Tourism is big for Thailand’s GDP and most locals are indifferent to tourists.  They will smile and that is the extent of it.  Friendly, but they usually do not mingle and show their excitement like many Chinese.  I can go on forever about Thailand but gotta go to work!  Much luck and don’t hesitate to ask anything.  My husband and I will be there next week.

Nothing to see in Bangkok???  Who told you that?  Bangkok is amazingly colorful, multi-cultural and fascinating.  Take a long walk down the longest road in Asia (Sukhumvit) from Soi 3 to Soi 80 something!  It reaches to the Cambodian border.  You can do the odds one day and evens the next.  You go through little Arabia, little Japan back to Thai life and then some!  You can eat everything from authentic Egyptian food to Mexican food to Ethiopian food to obviously Thai food.  Forget the questionable pills and have a food’gasm.  Bangkok is more enjoyable with each visit.  Forget the tourist sites and just wander.  Legitimate massages to not so legitimate massages.

Now the city is wrapped up in protests, but it should not turn violent.  It is more of hassle to get around the city, but actually makes the experience more exciting (if not violent like 2010).

Also it is one of the only cities you can stay in very nice 5 star international hotels for very decent prices.

Enjoy and be careful with any pills!

My dear lost soul..stop trying to understand ‘foreigners’, such a huge, unrewarding goal. Just try to understand yourself. Got to feel sorry for these types. It is a big world my friend and maybe china nor the US is for you. Keep searching….and don’t use the Internet for such answers. Read, travel…

Crazy…these examples are sad demonstrating the very malicious side of the Chinese people and government. Going to ANY and ALL extremes to make quick money despite really harming others. This is NOT to say other countries don’t have their problems…I am solely referring to this particular article!

The bizarre and quirky side of China that makes it a fun and sometimes a charming place to live is more like this:
