Chuan Da’s new semester starts at March 4th. Other universities are probably similar.

Regarding a student visa. Universities will close during Spring festival, so either come beginning of January to arrange your student visa or the end of February, in between will not be possible.

You might want to go back to the shop and ask to stop the spamming. I had that too with an old number and some of them are actually paid and then your money is gone real quick. It are probably weather forecasts and other info they automatically subscribe you to, thanks but no thanks!

I found a few vendors selling it on Taobao including one in Chengdu, and he said that they would be in stock by the end of this month. I think the price was around 800 yuan.

I was wondering if you have bought your Kindle PaperWhite already?

not far from Raffles (领事馆路/ American consulate) a Charlie Brown coffee shop just opened. The internet seemed pretty fast although I didn’t know how to measure it on my iTouch.

The only downside for me is that people smoke inside, although for others this might be a good thing.

The Paperwhite looks like a nice device. Once you get yours, let me know about this local vendor.

@ Charlie, I’m considering a Kindle. How much are bestseller on it on average?

@ Jenise, yes I was thinking about guest houses too thanks! I know at Nova hostel you can change 2 books for 1 new one.

@ Towelie, where’s this mall exactly or do you have the Chinese? I only have the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so I’m interested in the other 2 books.

    Chess? Anyone? No?…

Not a big fan of Chinese chess, but would be nice to play with some other beginners instead of the well trained Chinese, so I never stand a chance.

There’s a post on the Couch Surfing website.

They’re going to meet up on Tuesday for the first time and if there’s enough people/ interest they’ll keep it going.

if you’re talking about the American consulate on Sunday.

I was there after I came from work around lunch time. It was very busy, but nothing serious was going on.

There were actually many more police officers than protesters. now and then people showed a banner and shouted for a bit, then went quiet again. Many people were taking photo’s and the police was very relaxed.

I could actually walk all the way around the block and walk up to the blockade from the other side past the consulate. took some more photo’s and then the protesters had left and the police broke up the blockade and left.

From what I have been told. (Many) Chinese will always hate Japan in their heart, because they never appologised for what happened during WWII.

there were protests happening outside the consulate today as well. it seems to me that the japanese folk are purposely doing this to anger the chinese…

I don’t think it was the Japanese that was protesting at the American consulate… at least not according this girl’s t-shirt:
